PARTNERS
Dear students, dear exhibitors,
“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” This quote comes from a wise man named Henry Ford. At the Jacobs Career Fair exhibitors from a variety of sectors come together with highly motivated students from different fields of study. It has not been a rarity for an initial discussion to lead to more – to lead to working together successfully.
I am convinced that in today’s rapidly changing working environment universities need to offer more than education. They need to foster their students’ curiosity for the future – and they need to build bridges to the job market. That’s the aim of our annual Career Fair. This event takes just four hours, but in these four hours, our Campus Center has a very special atmosphere with its intense talks full of information and open-minded-ness from both sides, from students and company representatives.
Hence, I am delighted that our Jacobs Career Fair, now in its fourth year, has grown into such a popular networking platform for exhibitors, students, and numerous alumni with more than 1.000 visitors each year. That is not self-evident, but at the same time it does not come as a sur-prise: We offer students, companies and institutions a win-win situation, both sides benefit from direct contact.
Our Jacobs Career Fair shows a large variety of opportunities. Inter-national enterprises exhibit along with regional companies, research institutes, nongovernmental organizations and freshly founded start-ups. That is a mix not to be missed. To you, dear students, and to you, dear exhibitors I wish a fruitful get together. I also want to thank everybody involved in making the event such a success. We are looking forward to meeting you.
Best regards,
Prof. Dr. Michael Hülsmann

WELCOME ADDRESS
The economy is facing huge challenges in light of the highly dy-namic changes in the market and competitive conditions. Behind this lies the megatrend that is digitisation. Only companies that act in an agile way and place knowledge and innovation at the heart of their strategic company decisions will be able to assert and expand their competitiveness in future too.
In taking the necessary steps for innovation, those responsible can make use of an excellent network of academic and research institutions locally. They can benefit particularly from well-educa-ted young academics successfully graduating from higher educa-tion institutions in the federal state of Bremen. After all, innova-tion processes are driven by people, who show courage, creativity and their own initiative in daring to try new things. The transfer of ideas “through minds” and thus also a functioning transition from the universities to the economy is a crucial factor for success for today’s companies.
Jacobs University Bremen can look back on its successful develop-ment as a talent pool for the German economy, and particularly also that of Bremen. With the Jacobs Career Fair, companies in Bre-men have been given an outstanding platform for bringing interna-tionally oriented talent on board. Companies from a huge variety of industries have the opportunity to get to know technically qualified and motivated academic career-starters, while students can meet potential employers and find out about career opportunities among Bremen’s small and medium-sized companies.
The Jacobs Career Fair is a great opportunity for young academics and company representatives alike. They can build contacts to mutual benefit and discuss shared future prospects. With this in mind, I wish everyone involved in the Jacobs Career Fair interes-ting, future-oriented and successful discussions and contacts.

WELCOME ADDRESS

The passion of alumni to ‘give back’ to the younger generations of students at Jacobs University is what fuels our association as a global community. The Jacobs Career Fair is a great opportunity to realize how the ‘Jacobs spirit’ of solidarity is instilled in us, even more after graduation. As representatives of outstanding com-panies and organizations, as founders of startups and engaged entrepreneurs, as speakers in Career Talks – our alumni will leverage their diverse backgrounds in order to provide insights in the contemporary world of labor. With different industries and countries represented, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the JU minds of tomorrow. Our commitment to continue supporting Jacobs University, matched with the willingness to share learnings with our younger peers, is the reason why we can say that our Jacobs network is the most valuable thing that was kindled within us throughout our years on campus.
Students, this global network is what allows us to support the young talent at our alma mater – take advantage of it. If you find yourself in a position to connect with an alumni, do it. If you are starting a new job at a company where you know other Jacobians are employed, reach out to them. Let’s continue embracing and shaping this wonderful community and partake in the successes, experiences, and ventures that we have achieved together – and there is no better time than at the Jacobs Career Fair!
Many alumni are present today, and I can assure you that every one of them is looking forward to meeting you, and bringing you into their network. Speak to them, interact with them, share your career aspirations with them. They have been where you are, and can help you get to where you want to go – so don’t miss out on this opportunity.

CONTENT
Studying at Jacobs University gives personal contacts and profes-sional connections, often for the whole life. The Jacobs University Alumni Association was founded by the first graduating class in 2004 with the aim to foster relationships between students after graduation, to create and nurture a lifelong bond between the university and its graduates, as well as to support current and future generations of students.
All members of the Alumni Association have the opportunity to share contacts, stories and expertise with other individuals who consider Jacobs University a lifelong home. An online account for keeping in touch with all graduates and classmates, yearly Home-coming and Class Reunions on campus, a growing number of local chapters in more and more cities around Europe and worldwide, and many other opportunities to get involved and to benefit from exclusive services: all this gives rise to the broad, multicultural, international networking community of Jacobs University Alumni.
We are the worldwide networking community of Jacobs University Alumni. Join us at our booth at the Jacobs Career Fair and at https://portal.jacobs-alumni.de

“The most interesting part about life is in the way things unfold as you travel along it with sheer ent-husiasm and dedication. I studied Biology/Neuroscience alongside BCCB at Jacobs. After my gradua-tion I spent a year contemplating about the future ;) and started to get heavily involved in entrepreneurship. Then I went up north to Copenha-gen Business School for a Master in Business Adminis-tration and Bioentrepreneurship. Currently, I lead my team at PLANETLOCAL – a social impact startup and also consult a global bio science firm – Chr. Hansen A/S on strategic projects.”
“After my EECS degree from Jacobs in '05, I continued for my M.Sc. at TU Munich until '08. Throw a couple of global internships and a stint in IT consulting into the mix until I found a PhD wouldn't hurt. Although I decided to finish
my PhD (until '14), I started working on my own thing in parallel. Fast forward through some founder trial and error until I founded ECOMPLY.io in '17 which is now gaining significant traction.”

“Coming from a multicultural back-ground (my mother is half Palestinian, half Egyptian and my father is half German, half Austrian) as well as growing up in different cities, I found Jacobs to be the perfect place to find other equally culturally confused people. I studied Integrated Social Sciences at Jacobs from 2013 to 2016, as I liked the idea of looking at global problems from multiple perspectives in order to truly understand their complexity. Outside of my studies, I had the oppor-tunity to join many activities, where I learned a lot from my wonderful peers. After graduating from Jacobs, I started the Global Management Traineeship at AB In-Bev, which is rotational 10 month program in which you move from department to department, from city to city, every couple weeks in order to gain a holistic view of the company and how it operates. Last June I started my first position as Junior Trade Marketing Manager at AB InBev in Germany where I am predominantly in charge of trade activations for Leffe, Franziskaner and Corona.”

The Alfred Wegener Institute carries out research in the Arctic and Antarctic as well as in the high and mid latitude oceans. The institute coordinates German polar research and makes available to national and international science important infra-structure, e.g. the research icebreaker “Polarstern” and research stations in the Arctic and Antarctic.
The Institute's research mission is to improve our understanding of ocean-ice-atmosphere interactions, the animal and plant king-doms of the Arctic and Antarctic, and the evolution of the polar continents and seas. Given the major role played by these regions within the Earth's climate system, global change is a central focus of the research effort at AWI.
AWI collaborates in numerous international research programmes and maintains close contacts with many universities and institutes in Europe and farther afield. It sends scientists to other institutes throughout the world, to other research ships and sta-tions, and invites scientists from other nations to cruises aboard “Polarstern”, as well as to Bremerhaven and Potsdam. About a quarter of those participating in “Polarstern” expeditions are scientists from abroad.

BRIGE stands for German industrial cleaning systems and en-gineering, built in Germany. We started in March 2016 as Bridge-water Simeitis GbR. In Mai 2016 we changed into our currentlycompany name BRIGE GmbH and moved to Hamburg-Harburg.
What we do:For many years the problem of the conveyor chain falling debris orcracks in the conveyor prevails, especially in the surface tech-nology sector. To this end, the founders of BRIGE GmbH, Kent Bridgewater and Sven Simeitis, developed in more than 5,000 hours of work the BRIGE B-CLEAN system, the high-tech wet-cle-aning system of conveyor chains. The peculiarity of the cleaning machine: It can even be used within the production plant.
In more detail:Parts, which need coating, require special protection from debrisfalling from overhead conveyers, such as widely used powerand-free systems. Contaminated parts are rejected during the pro-duction process and create unnecessary costs. This risk can now be eliminated using the innovative high pressure cleaning system from BRIGE GmbH. The cleaning system is directly attached to the conveyor chain. Utilizing its intelligent automatic controls it cleans and dries the conveyor chain in one simple step. It even operates during active production. In addition, the system is ecologically engineered to save energy and recycles the water used for cleaning. Cleaning the conveyor chain continuously also prevents rupture of the chain. In addition, BRIGE developed and distributes the intelligently programmed and energy saving air generator, B-AIR Unit, in versions Tornado Power and Power Tornado 4.0.

And, of course, we advise gover-nments on how to achieve objectives and implement nationwide change processes by incorporating them into legislation and strategies. The political and social framework plays a crucial role in ensuring reforms are effective and sustainable. Without an enabling environment, changes remain superficial and have no real impact in the medium term.
At GIZ, capacity development is about strengthening partners and tapping potentials. This is the key to sustainable development.
For more than 30 years, capacity develop-ment has been one of the key services delivered by GIZ and its predecessors. Around the globe, we advise people and organisations on learning and change processes.

The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in Bremen is the only scientific institute in Germany that investigates tropical and subtropical coastal ecosystems and their importance for nature and people. With its work, the ZMT provides a scientific basis for the protection and sustainable use of these tropical coastal ecosystems.
The ZMT dedicates its training and research to the better under-standing of coastal ecosystems in the tropics. These include mangroves, coral reefs, seagrass meadows, but also rivers, estuaries, coastal waters and upwelling systems. ZMT scientists analyse the natural processes of these habitats. They explore the ecosystems' interdependency with the hinterland and the open ocean. The structure and functionality of tropical coastal eco-systems, resource use and resilience against human intervention and natural changes are at the centre of the studies.
The ZMT is a very interdisciplinary research institute and the four scientific departments are based different disciplines: Biochemistry and Geology, Ecology, Social Sciences and Theoreti-cal Ecology and Modelling.
In addition to research, the focus lies on the development of competencies and consultation services – always in close coope-ration with international and national partners. As a member of the Leibniz Association (since 2009) the institute is funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and its ‘Länder’.
