  • Choose the stage of Innovation youve submitted:Identify the innovation stage by putting a black DOT under the relevant stage category listed below.

Idea: It is at a nascent stage where it is a thought with substantial research material or a design Prototype: Your idea has taken shape into a prototype/ model of your innovation Established: Your submission has evolved into an establishment that youve set up and the public is already aware of itScaling: The innovation submitted has been well accepted amongst people around you and you are now in the advance stage of scaling up your innovation

  • Summarize your innovationMaximum points: 10

Innovation Jockeys will only consider those innovations that are related to either of the two categories listed belowCategory name Digital GovernmentThis innovation is developed to aid Ministry of Agriculture, India and the State Governments. The innovation will help the Governments to streamline and enhance productivity of food products through data intelligence and technology. Today Government provides subsidies for farmers and waives off their loans, however this innovation will improve the involvement of government to improve the state of affairs for agriculture.

  • Compelling need for the innovationMaximum points: 30 1. Describe the business / problem statement you are trying to address Indian agricultural yield lags behind average world yield in most of the staple crops, as per 2009 UN reportsAlarming increase in rate of imports of essential food crops

  • Compelling need for the innovationMaximum points: 30 Over the years increasing subsidies on food and fertilizer has been the biggest revenue expenditure to the Government, this has not resulted in proportional increase in productivity.Increasing rate of Farmer SuicidesAround 60% of Indians depend directly or indirectly upon agriculture. Farmer suicides form 11.2% of all suicides in India. Reasons attributed to monsoon failure, high debt burdens, genetically modified crops, government policies, public mental health and family problemsIncreasing subsidies A burden on Government

  • Compelling need for the innovation2. How is the issue being addressed today / what are the shortfalls Maximum points: 30

  • Compelling need for the innovation3. If its a new idea, radical solution, what is the issue the idea will address

Maximum points: 30 Remove intuitive agriculture and replace it with data-driven, scientific agricultural practices.1Provide a proactive, real-time system for the farmer to make quick, informed, scientific decisions2Ensure greater coordination and transparency between all the value chain partners the various government agencies like the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Statistics, Meteorological department, Financial Institutions, Farmers et al3Most issues plaguing Indian agriculture are supply-side related and external factors like monsoon failure, lack of price transparency etc.4

  • Solution 4. Describe your innovation, how it addresses the chosen theme and what technology is used

Maximum points: 30 We provide the expertise and technology to Indian Agriculture and Agri businesses by enabling efficient farm management leading to more efficient yields, greater transparency of the value chain, happy farmers and a well fed nation. We integrate the agricultural community, government and agribusiness partners leading to greater collaboration among all the supply chain participants.Jago Kissan An idea to use data intelligence to overcome the knowledge deficit and a customized data driven system to predict future scenarios and enable the farmer to take well informed decisions. How does it work?

If farmers knew their farms could deliver a better yield of Rice than Bajra, wouldnt that greatly benefit him !

  • Value propositionMaximum points: 30 Elaborate about the value proposition, and how end users will benefit from your idea.

    Benefits to the * Government

    - Increase in net exports- Self sufficiency in at least the highly consumed crops- Increased agricultural output and more efficient use of the budget allocated for agriculture Higher returns on Investment compared to the Subsidies Reduction in Farmer Suicides

    Benefits to Farmers

    - Knowledge of what to take loan for (crops, fertilizers, irrigation systems)Profitability is higher as probability of risk and failure is greatly reduced Help and certification from Government improves the way of life for farmers

Benefits to * Banks, Financial * Institutions - Prediction rating of farmers as a certificate to their loan default riskiness- Less risk of loan defaults by farmers

  • Implementation PlanThis innovation will be part of Ministry of Agriculture which willPass it down to the states and districts respectively. The Implementation plan is discussed in the following topics: Product Development: Development of the backbone of the project REAP (Returns on enchancing the Agricultural productivity) System

Marketing Plan: Plan to reach the farmers and make them understand the value of the project

Operations Plan: On the ground implementation of the product

    Implementation timeline and Phases

    Return on Investment

  • Implementation: Product Development REAP (Returns on Enhancing Agricultural Productivity) System The Backbone of the Project is REAP System, it uses 'Hadoop' engine for Big Data management

Integrated with all data resources like IMD, Trade and commerce industry, BSE etc

Produces 95% accurate results It captures farm related data either manually or through sensors fitted in the farm land

Captures Satellite images of farmlands to avoid any destruction by animals or others

Alerts will be sent to farmers through EMs

  • Implementation: Product Development REAP (Returns on Enhancing Agricultural Productivity) System (1/2)Maximum points: 50

  • Implementation: Product Development REAP (Returns on Enhancing Agricultural Productivity) System (2/2)Maximum points: 50

  • Implementation: Marketing PlanAwareness: Talks and Advertisements in Media Posters/Banners across the village Messages/IVRS through mobile phonesInterest:Through talks at Farmer societies, Grampanchayats and through Leaders of the villages Complete brochure with details of the project to the Farmers Incentive to attend the Jago Kissan talks Make farmers as brand ambassdors for this schemeDesire:- Nukkad Natak explaining how two farmers from the same region one who followed Instinct failed and the other one who used the data driven approach succeededAction:1 Engagement manager for 2-3 farmers to explain and take him into the project

  • Implementation: Operations Plan Process flow - SowMaximum points: 50

  • Implementation: Operations PlanProcess flow - PostMaximum points: 50

  • Implementation: Phase planMaximum points: 50

  • Implementation: Return on Investment at 23%Maximum points: 50 Benefit DriversThe benefit drivers taken into accountIncrease in yield rates resulting in self sufficiency (1%)Decrease in import of specific commodities (0.3%)Increase in export of commodities (0.1%)Decrease in food inflation and related Macro economic factors Decrease in wastage of crops due to external factors CostsThe costs for the project include:Team costsCost for getting data sources from other organizationsTechnology usage for each farm Administrative costs InvestmentsThe investments for the project include:Initial investment Implementation costs Ongoing support costs Training costs

  • Implementation: Return on Investment at 23%Maximum points: 50

  • The Competitive AdvantageAre there similar innovations that are in the area that you are focusing on? What is the competitive advantage of your innovation?

    - There are no full fledged innovations in this area, especially for the independent farmers. - There could have been innovations done by corporate companies which manage these farms through consultants or internal teams. However there is no such innovation done in mainstream- The competitive advantage of this innovation is its simple framework to integrate all the data sources and get a predictive result- This innovation does not need heavy investments as they are concentrated majorly on building the big data engine, this big data engine can be used for any other ministry as well and hence the investment costs can be shared.- Most important, The end user or the farmer gets it at nil or minimum cost as this being Government driven initiativeMaximum points: 30

  • The Competitive AdvantageSources of guidance you received to develop the innovation to be mentioned.- Taken references from Retail and FMCG sector who have been the biggest users of Big data engines.- Reference taken from a firm in Spain which has tried out predictive analytics for a small farm- The ministry of Agriculture its mission and vision are also a guidance for completing this project

Are you pursuing a patent for your innovation? - Yes planning to pursue a patent for the REAP system (Returns on Enhancing the Agricultural productivity) once it is completed- It can predict at least 95% of the situations with accurate results- On continuous usage these results could be improved.
