1 JAGUAR HERITAGE NEWS JUNE 2012 REPORT This month’s news is dominated by events – which have kept the team very busy through May and June with Heritage cars appearing in Italy, Germany and the UK. Mille Miglia May 17-19: The six-car strong Jaguar Heritage Racing team arrived back in Brescia in the early hours of Sunday May 20th to successfully complete the 2012 Mille Miglia. The team’s entries comprised three C-types, two XK 120s and a Mk VII saloon, each crew and car finishing the challenging Brescia-Rome-Brescia route without incident amongst an entry that included 32 Jaguars in total a new record. Amongst the six cars were Jaguar Heritage's C-Type NDU 289 (chassis XKC 045) and two famous XK120's, the open two seater OOF 748 and the fixed head LWK 707 - famous for the record breaking 7 days and nights run at Montlhery in 1952. The event began in celebratory fashion for the marque when Sir Stirling Moss and Norman Dewis took to the start in a disc- brake equipped C-type, just as they did in 1952; their Mille Miglia efforts of 60 years ago representing a huge step forward in Jaguar’s development of disc-brake technology for wide-scale road car use. Today, Moss and Dewis are the oldest surviving Mille Miglia driver/co-driver pairing. Their heroic efforts of 60-years ago were fondly acknowledged by the Brescia crowds who were treated to the sight of Moss completing a parade lap in the very C-type (XKC 005) which, later in 1952, he drove to victory at Reims to record the very first win for a disc-braked car. Said Frank Klaas, Global Head of Communications, Jaguar Land Rover: “The Mille Miglia is always a very special event, and one that Jaguar is again proud to sponsor. This year’s Mille, however, had heightened significance for Jaguar as it represented a great anniversary in the marque’s history of building technologically innovative cars; 60 years since Sir Stirling Moss and Norman Dewis put disc-brake technology through its first competitive endurance test.

JAGUAR HERITAGE NEWS – JUNE 2012 REPORT This month’s news is dominated by events – which have kept the team very busy through May and June with Heritage cars appearing in Italy, Germany and the UK. Mille Miglia – May 17-19: The six-car strong Jaguar Heritage Racing team arrived back in Brescia in the early hours of Sunday May 20th to successfully complete the 2012 Mille Miglia. The team’s entries comprised three C-types, two XK 120s and a Mk VII saloon, each crew and car finishing the challenging Brescia-Rome-Brescia route without incident amongst an entry that included 32 Jaguars in total – a new record.

The event began in celebratory fashion for the marque when Sir Stirling Moss and Norman Dewis took to the start in a disc-brake equipped C-type, just as they did in

1952; their Mille Miglia efforts of 60 years ago representing a huge step forward in Jaguar’s development of disc-brake technology for wide-scale road car use.

“Their efforts played a crucial part in developing disc-brakes for volume production, technology that has since saved countless lives on the road. The bravery of Moss and Dewis in 1952, and their continued enthusiasm for life in 2012, was an inspiration for the entire Jaguar Heritage Racing team on this year’s Mille Miglia.” The 2012 Mille Miglia was the first competitive full team outing for the Jaguar Heritage Racing programme which, later this year, will also see works-backed C- and D-types race competitively for the first time since 1956 at both the Nürburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix and the Goodwood Revival. The full 2012 Mille Miglia Jaguar Heritage racing works entry comprised: C-type (chassis: XKC 005, reg’n: MDU 212) C-type (chassis: XKC 018, reg’n: 70 XVK) C-type (chassis: XKC 045, reg’n: NDU 289 ) Mk VII (registration: LHP 5) XK 120 OTS (registration: OOF 748) XK 120 fixed-head (registration: LWK 707) Highlights from the Mille Miglia are included in the first of Jaguar Heritage Racing's short CNN broadcast films which first aired on Wednesday, 30th May in markets across the world. The film, titled 'The Fear and Exhilaration', captures Jaguar Heritage Racing's debut at the Mille Miglia and demonstrates the magic and passion associated with Jaguar's world-famous heritage. The 60-second film is the first instalment of Jaguar Heritage Racing's recently announced global media partnership with CNN, which will includes a series of 30 and 60 second films covering the major events in addition to a Jaguar Heritage-sponsored feature page - visit http://advertisementfeature.cnn.com/jaguar/jhr/mille-miglia.html for more details or to view the film. Clerkenwell Design Week – May 22-24: Jaguar Cars was the title sponsor of this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week which ran from May 22 -24 at various venues around Clerkenwell Green. This relationship reflects the fact that design has always been one of the key strands of Jaguar’s DNA and its designers are influenced by all aspects of design, not just automotive.

The display of cars in the Farmiloe building celebrated Jaguar’s sporting design past, present & future and included Jaguar Heritage’s unique XJ13 (the most beautiful racing car never to have raced) alongside the latest XKR-S and XFR models. All three passed the test set by Jaguar’s founder, Sir William Lyons, that they look fast even when they are standing still!

As an additional attraction, the Jaguar Design team brought along a half-finished clay model of the C-X16 concept car (the precursor to the new F-TYPE scheduled for launch in the Autumn). Modellers from the team were on hand to demonstrate their skills and to explain their craft to interested visitors.

Eifel Classic – June 7 – 9: Early June saw the Jaguar Heritage team heading into Germany to support two events simultaneously – the Eifel Classic and the Stromburg-Classic (see next report). The Eifel Classic is a three day event centred around the Nürburgring with stages through the surrounding forests and the beautiful Eifel mountains as well as a special stage on the legendary Nordschleife. Jaguar Deutschland, who were major sponsors of the event, entered a field of five Jaguars and two Land Rovers including a number of cars supplied by Jaguar Heritage. The driver teams were made up of local celebrities and Jaguar Land Rover executives who joined more than 120 other teams at the start line.

In celebration of the Queen’s diamond jubilee, the Jaguar team’s theme was “British Royal Tradition meets British Automobile Tradition” and featured a number of cars with royal connections. These included the 1973 Series 1 XJ12 formerly used by HRH the Queen Mother, the 1987 XJS V12 Cabriolet used by Princess Diana (both of which took part in the rally) and the 1955 Mk Vll also used by the Queen Mother which was on static display in the start paddock area.

The rest of the Jaguar entry comprised XK120 and XK150 open two seaters (pictured below) and a Series 2 E-type (just visible behind the XK150 VUF 316).

The weather remained fine throughout the event and the many iconic classic cars participating made a wonderful spectacle as they toured through the towns and villages of the Eifel region. The highest placed Jaguar entry at the finish was the XJS V12 Cabriolet driven by Jürgen Vogel and Jan Broer which finished in 17th place with 1293 points, closely followed by the XK120 driven by Stefan Grundhoff and Andrea Leitner with 1324 points. This was the Stromburg Classic, a charity fundraiser rally organised by celebrity German chef Johann Lafer and centred on his ancient Swabian castle in Stromburg which is now a luxurious Relais & Chateaux hotel and restaurant. For this event, Jaguar Heritage were asked to supply their 1953 C-Type NDU 289 to be driven by Johann Lafer himself. An exclusive selection of classic cars (all more than 30 years old) took part in this three day event which toured through the attractive countryside of the Rhine valley and surrounding hills.

Cholmondeley Pageant of Power – June 15-17 Closer to home, the Jaguar Heritage team headed up to Cheshire over the weekend June 15-17 for the fifth running of the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, which took place in the grounds of Cholmondeley Castle. Over 150 historic and modern racing cars and motorbikes took to the 1.2 mile circuit for this event which was being co-sponsored by Jaguar Cars. The Pageant featured high-octane action not only on land, but also on the water and in the air - with powerboats on the Mere, military combat power demonstrations and aerobatic displays including the amazing Breitling Wingwalkers.

Jaguar Heritage entered two of its famous sportscars, C-Type NDU 289 and short nose D-Type OVC 501 – which made a number of runs on the track over the three days. Speeds were curtailed somewhat by the wet and muddy conditions which made the track somewhat treacherous. Fortunately, the two Jaguars being driven by Heritage technicians Richard Mason and Dave Withers survived the event without incident!

The Jaguar presence wasn’t confined just to the track; Jaguar UK had a hospitality unit on the cricket field with a display of current models which took part in the lunch break parade and the Jaguar Heritage merchandise trailer formed a focal point in the Shopping Village. Our sister company Jaguar Classic Parts joined us for this event with a new display marquee that has been designed to match the merchandise trailer.

Future Events: Next up for the team is another un-missable event for enthusiasts - the International Jaguar Weekend being organised by the JEC.

Jaguar Heritage will be supporting this event with a display of cars from its collection to celebrate both the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Swallow Sidecar Company and also the 20th anniversary of the Jaguar XJ220 supercar. The full line-up will include both the original XJ220 prototype from the 1988 NEC Motor Show and Jaguar Heritage’s production prototype XJ220 as well as the Swallow Sidecar, SS Airline, TWR XJS V12 and the XJS Police Car – something for everyone! The Jaguar Heritage merchandise trailer will also be there along with the cars to furnish visitors with the Jaguar souvenirs and accessories of their choosing and provide a focal point for the display. We will also be joined once again by Jaguar Classic Parts with their new display/sales unit where enthusiasts will be able to purchase or order parts and obtain technical advice. In addition to the cars, an impressive list of XJ220 team members will also be in attendance, including former Jaguar luminaries Jim Randle (Jaguar Design Director) and Keith Helfet (Jaguar Stylist and Chief Exterior Designer), Mike Moreton (XJ220 Project Manager and author of “Jaguar XJ220 – the inside story” with signed copies available on the day), Win Percy (former XJ220 racing driver) and several others! Don and Justin Law (renowned XJ220 specialists) will be on hand to offer advice and answer queries and will also be bringing the XJ220 Transit Van, so if you are unfamiliar with this, come to Weston Park and find out all about it. An XJ220 anniversary presentation is also planned, to be led by Jim Randle and Keith Helfet. In addition to the XJ220 celebrations, there will also be special displays for three other anniversaries - 30 years of the XJS Cabriolet, 40 years of the V12 engine and 50 years of the Daimler 2½ litre. A full report will appear in the next newsletter. Hot on the heels of the Weston Park event is one of the largest classic car events of the season, the Goodwood Festival of Speed which will take place from June 28 to July 1. As in recent years, there will be a strong Jaguar presence with a large stand opposite Goodwood House displaying the current product range. Jaguar Heritage’s XJ220 will also be on the stand in celebration of this iconic supercar’s 20th anniversary. The Jaguar Heritage team will also be running the shop on the stand to furnish visitors with Jaguar souvenirs and memorabilia. The Cathedral Paddock will once again feature a selection of cars from the Heritage collection that will make demonstration drives up the hill. These will include the XK120 FHC LWK 707, short nose D-Type OVC 501 and the Group 44 E-type. The XJR-9 will also be on

static display along with other Group C cars. Finally, as part of the ongoing Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Jaguar Heritage will be supplying its Mark Vll and Daimler Limousine, both formerly used by HRH the Queen Mother, as part of the Cartier royal display. "Swallow to Jaguar – 90th Anniversary Tour": A reminder that applications are still being accepted for this exclusive Tour being organised by Jaguar Heritage to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the Swallow Sidecar Company. Starting in Coventry, Jaguar’s current home, the Tour will take in a number of exciting sights and activities as the cars make their way round England in an anti-clockwise direction before ending up in Blackpool, the birthplace of the Swallow Sidecar Company, for the final two nights. The Tour will take place from September 2nd to September 9th and is open to owners of Swallow, SS, Jaguar, Daimler or Lanchester cars of any age. The cost is £2,900 per car for two people or £2,300 for one person and the route has been designed to enable classic vehicles from the early years of Swallow, SS and Jaguar to participate. Full details are available from the Jaguar Heritage website at http://www.jaguarheritage.org/News/29-swallow-to-jaguar-90th-anniversary-tour.aspx where an application form can also be downloaded. Jaguar Heritage – Relocation Update: Work continues to plan for the relocation of staff, vehicles and archive materials to new premises later in the year. Based on the latest timing plans, we now intend to keep the Browns Lane museum open a little longer with the last day for visits being on Friday, August 24th. The final Sunday opening will therefore be on July 29th. Detailed plans for the ongoing display of some of the vehicles from the Jaguar Heritage collection are continuing. It is hoped to be able to transfer around 10 cars to a new display area at the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon during July to support the school holiday period. The transfer of cars to the Coventry Transport Museum will happen a little later after the Browns Lane museum closes at the end of August. Further details of these plans in terms of timing and the vehicle specifics will be communicated in due course.
