The President's Message lllusion and Reality! Fancy That!

Whether simply working on scenes or as a cast member of a play or musical, actors have the marvelous vicarious experience of being someone else temporarily. What a feeling of release there is in letting emotions flow through a character other than one's seltl

Audiences, too, have an opportunity to join in those experiences, as they respond to illusitons and characterizations and, perhaps, picutre themselves in situations imagined or experienced in the past. lt is a release from their own realities-even as reading great novels or biographies can be.

Bringing together these two experiences-those of illusion and reality-is what theatre is all about. ln short, THE REAL THING.

John McCollum, AACT President

The Director's Message In this play (Stoppard's last), he says all he has to say about the topic of love and fidelity. He is rumored to have stopped writing because there doesn't seem to be any more for him to say than he does here in THE REAL THING. In relationships, it isn't that someone becomes yours, it's that you allow someone to become a part of you.

Charles Sutherland

THE REAL PEOPLE ROSS ALBERTSON (Lights) Ross has been hard at work since his last en· counter with AACT in our spring production of HEDDA GABLER. He spent the summer as a technical/lighting assistant at the Cherry County Playhouse in Traverse City. Ross looks forward to this opportunity in local theatre, and to establishing a long and enjoyable relationship with AACT.

DAVID ANDREWS (Billy) David says he has no recollection of events previous to March 22, 1987, but has a vague memory of a baseball musical in the Spring. However, other sources say he has extensive experience in AACT productions such as THE DINING ROOM, THE CLOUDS, and SKIN OF OUR TEETH, as well as DAMN YANKEES!

RICK ASH CROFf (Sound) Born at a very early age in New York City, Rick took to the stage early as an actor. After peaking as the Tin Man in the WIZARD OF OZ, he left theatre for about 15 years, becoming reinvolved as a "techie" with AACT in 1985. Last season he worked sound for many of AACT's MainStreet and two MainStage shows, as well as stage managing for DAMN YANKEES!

AYDIN BENGIS(J (Brodie) This is Aydin's first appearance in a MainStage production. He has appeared previously in the Summer 1986 production of Tina Howe's MUSEUM on the AACT MainStreet stage. A senior studying Political Science, Aydin expects to graduate next month, and hopes to pur· sue an "arts oriented" career. In his spare time, Aydin enjoys swimming, reading and watching CNN Newswatch.

ELIZABETH (SKIP) DUNNETT (Co-Producer) Skip has been involved with the Rochester Civic Theatre in Minnesota for the past six years in many areas, including assistant director, stage manager, sound, and lights. While in Rochester, she was worked with the Repertory Theatre as production and sound manager for three years. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Mantorville, Minnesota, Melodrama Theatre.

RICK GREEN (Max) Rick is stepping on the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre stage for the first time. He has a B.S. and M.A. in Communication and Theatre Arts from Eastern Michigan University. Some of his credits include THE RUNNER STUMBLES, WALTZ OF THE TOREADORS, DA, CLOUD NINE, and THE ELEPHANT MAN. He is also a former coach and competitor of the EMU National Championship Speech Team.

CHRIS HALL (Props) Chris has been periodically with AACT for 2 years; this time her excuse is that she's been lonely. With her husband doing sound, she's afraid to be along at home with his cats-they've always hated her.

STEPHEN C. HILL (Henry) Steve's only other dramatic appearance on this stage was in Civic's production of HAY FEVER two summers ago. He has trodden the boards more recently as a member of Gilbert & Sullivan's chorus. Steve is a programmer for KMS Fusion.

Page 9: JA(;i Ann Arbor Civic Theatre presentsmedia.aadl.org/documents/pdf/a2ct/a2ct_programs_19871118.pdf · the EMU National Championship Speech Team. CHRIS HALL (Props) ... and is proprietress

ANGIE JONES (Co-Producer) Angie has been involved in AACT in many areas over the years, presently serving as Membership/Volunteer Chairperson, and on the Education Committee. Angie was seen this summer in our MainStreet production of ENGAGED as Parker the maid. In real life, Angie is the owner and designer of Freesia Floral Design.

KARl LYNN MASON (Debbie) This is Kari's first show with AACT. Currently she is an active Theatre major at Eastern Michigan University, and has appeared in several of their main stage productions, including CRIMES OF THE HEART and SKIN OF OUR TEETH. Kari has also toured with Famous Players Children's Theatre; is a member of Monroe Community Players; and is an acting instructor at Robert Lee Dance Studio in Garden City.

PAOLA (PEL~.) MORNING (Costume Designer) comes new to AACT with this production; however, she comes to us as a "pro." Her show credits for costume design include the Broadway production of TIMBUKTU at the Sloan Theatre. In addition, the stunning Paula recently completed a successful twelve year career in international modeling (specialty: Couture Runway) during which she developed her talents as couturiere. She is currently a professional trainer and developer of new modeling talent, and is proprietress of Networks: Private Couture Boutique in Saline.

SUSAN MORSETH (Annie) Susan has appeared most recently with AACT as Vita in ANGELS FALL, and Alison in ROMANTIC COMEDY for which she was also producer. THE REAL THING is the sixth Civic show in which she has performed.

YEHODIT NEWMAN (Stage Manager) Yehudit has worked backstage for 20 years and is fnally trying her hand at Stage Managing tonight. Yehudit has participated in at least 12 AACT MainStage productions in the last 2 years. In real life she is a mommy and an activity director working with senior citizens.

CHARLES SUTHERLAND (Director) has won awards for directing last season's HEDDA GABLER and W. S. Gilbert's ENGAGED. He has also directed THE LATE CHRISTOPHER BEAN, BEDROOM FARCE, SPOFFARD for AACT. Charles won best supporting actor for his parts in ANYTHING GOES, and BELLS ARE RINGING. He appeared in THE SHADOW BOX and THE CRUCIBLE, and also designed scenery for THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM and ENGAGED.

DONNAJEAN WARD (Assistant Director) This is Donna jean's first work with AACT and, in fact, her first work as an assistant director. An avid theatre buff, she is looking forward to more projects with AACT in the future.

LEELA WOOD (Charlotte) Leela has most recently appeared as the Actress in Molnais' STILL LIFE; Dodo in Fry's A PHOENIX TOO FREQUENT; Constance in THE MADWOMAN OF CHAILLOT-all at the California Institute of Technology, Pasedena. Having lived in Bombay, Chicago, Madras, London, and Los Angeles, Leela has just moved to Ann Arbor, hopefully to stay.

Tell us where it hurts. 0 My life savings are in CDs that are about to mature, but I'm not too happyj

about renewing them at such low rates.

0 Now that Tax Reform has changed all the rules, I'm afraid that I don't have the right investments anymore.

0 I'm worried about how I'll be able to pay for my children's college education.

0 I've invested heavily in the stock market, and I'm worried the market will drop and take my investments down with it.

0 I'm about to receive a large pension plan distribution, and I'm not sure how I should invest it.

0 I'm retired and thought I had enough saved to last through retirement. Now, I'm not so sure.

Whatever financial "symptom" you may be experiencing, you should make an appointment to see us-the investment specialist of Integrated Resources Equity Corporation. We'll listen to your problem and recommend an appropriate financial treatment. So Call us today-and just tell us where it hurts.
