Region 8: DE, E.PA, NJ * A Reunion of IIT Mumbai Graduates 1967 - 2012

L-R: Manilal Savla, Hans Maru and Hari Rambhia on January 4, 2012 Manilal Savla (New Jersey) , Hans Maru (Massachusetts) and Hari Rambhia (India) attended a 50 year reunion at IIT Mumbai during January 3 - 5, 2012. They are perhaps the first trio of Kutchi chemical engineers graduated from any IIT in 1967. In the same year they landed in the US for higher education. They joined IIT Mumbai in 1963 after Inter Science but most of their batch-mates had joined in 1962. They enjoyed the 50 years reunion of joining IIT along with their spouses with very nostalgic

A true story of mind over matter! Vishal and Dhiaj conquered the rough undeveloped terrain of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, by climbing an impressive 19,341 feet above sea level. This summit adventure concluded at Uhuru Peak, which is the highest summit on Kibo’s crater peak. Kilimanjaro is a great stratovolcano that began forming a million years ago and dictates numerous mental and physical challenges along the summit climb. This is the Magnet School where 300+ brightest students competed for 62 seats. KOJAIN – UK (UNITED KINGDOM) * Kojain – UK (Jeda Kutchi Madu mele ane khele) Following up on the grand success of first Diwali party, Kojain - UK hosted another get together on Saturday, 11th Feb 2012 at Tulsi Restaurant in Wembley, Greater London, UK. This event was attended by 38 adults and 6 toddlers from all over the UK.

Attendees beat the snow & chill & came all the way from places like Birmingham, Sydneham, North Hampton, Milton Keynes & farfetched areas. Member mix includes doctors, dentists, psychiatrists, investment bankers, fashion designers, accountants, IT pros and others. When you are far from home (India - distance wise) but UK still feels like home when 35+ smiling people interact in your mother tongue - Kutchi. Everybody relished the food and had a great time. Opportunity was grabbed to share and start the Host Family program in UK. KOJAIN UK takes inspiration and pride from our counterparts in the US who have already implemented this program successfully. People showed great interest and 8 families have signed up for the Host Family Program. Kojain-UK also publishes a monthly newsletter. The first issue came out in February 2012 and it was a grand

effort from all the members who contributed articles. Looking at the enthusiasm and response from everybody, the next get together is scheduled on 12th May 2012 at Potters Bar. A Message from the 2012 KOJAIN Sammelan Chicago Executive Committee We, the Executive Committee Members of Chicago KOJAIN Sammelan 2012, wanted to take this opportunity to extend our personal greetings and invitations to ALL Kutchi people of North America, India and other parts of the world, hoping that you all will join us for the 7th KOJAIN Sammelan to be held from 27th - 29th July of 2012 in Chicago, USA.

The Chicago Kutchchhi community is excited to be hosting this Sammelan. The theme of the Sammelan is "Panjo Rangeelo Kutch". The theme reflects our Kutchchhi heritage which is rapidly changing and may even be in danger of disappearing as

we move forward in the 21st Century. Our hope in planning this event is to keep that tradition alive and to hand it over to the new generation. In addition to the main event a range of exhibitions will provide further information on our proud heritage; display artifacts of our culture and aim to provide many interesting information not only to us but also to our new generations who may not have yet experienced the Kutch the way most of us did growing up.

The spectacular opening ceremony will be an event in itself, combined with a unique program of side events ensuring all delegates will have an opportunity to savor some of Kutch's delights, renew old friendships, or forge new ones that will continue long after the closing ceremonies.

We extend our heartiest welcome to all members and non members and to their families and guests of the KOJAIN community to the 7th KOJAIN Sammelan event which will be intellectually stimulating and whose memory will last beyond the 3 day event. We strongly urge everyone to mark their calendar and sign up as soon as possible to take an early bird advantage on special reduced rate Registration fees. WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY must be signed to complete registration.

In consideration of being allowed to attend the 2012 Chicago KOJAIN Sammelan and related events, activities, and programs, I acknowledge and agree that: 1. I, and the participants I am registering, will refrain from indiscreet, inappropriate, or destructive behavior

which would detract from the positive image of KOJAIN. I understand that failure to comply may result in exclusion from further participation in the Sammelan and related events, activities, and programs; and/or disciplinary actions as determined by the Chicago Host Committee and the KOJAIN Executive Board.

2. I accept full responsibility for the actions of all participants I am registering for the Sammelan Workshop and any related events, activities, and programs.

I, for myself, , all participants I am registering, and on behalf of my and their families, heirs and assigns, do hereby covenant not to sue KOJAIN, and do hereby waive any claim against KOJAIN, and release and discharge KOJAIN, its officers, agents, volunteers, employees, and sponsors from any and all liability for any and all claims, demands, losses or damages on account of any discipline imposed for failure to comply with the Guidelines, and on account of any injury, including death and damage to property, whether caused by negligence or otherwise. I also give my authority and permission to KOJAIN for taking any and all actions, which it seems necessary in the event of injury and/or damage to persons or property in my accomplishment. I permit KOJAIN to use any of the information pertaining to my attendance, and the attendance of all participants I am registering, for its use, publication and desire. I acknowledge that KOJAIN or the Rolling Meadows Holiday Inn does not maintain insurance covering any person, property or liability, or the person, property or liability of participants I am registering, in regards to the Sammelan space. It is my sole responsibility to obtain any and all insurance covering losses incurred by me and participants I am registering while present at the 2012 KOJAIN Chicago Sammelan I have read and fully understood the terms of this liability release.

KOJAIN MERIT SCHOLARSHIP – APPEAL FOR FUNDS The KOJAIN Merit Scholarship is awarded in recognition of outstanding academic achievements, exemplary extracurricular activities, leadership roles and commitment to further education. KOJAIN Merit Scholarship Program was established in 1998. Since then, every year a onetime merit scholarship is awarded to the KOJAIN students graduating from the High Schools in North America and entering the College/University to further higher education. Every year KOJAIN needs $ 3,000 funds for the Scholarship. KOJAIN appreciates generous donations from members to sustain the Scholarship Program. Members commitment strengthens KOJAIN's merit based scholarship program to recognize the future leaders of our community and encourages them to work hard and do their best in their professional career goals while also remaining dedicated to our Kachchhi heritage.
