Its latitude is at 64°08' and that makes it the
northern most capital of a sovereign state. Its
population is about 120,000 to 200,000. It is
basically in the heart of Iceland’s economic and
governmental activity.
It is located in south west Iceland. During the ice
age a large glacier covered most parts of the city.
Other parts were covered by the sea. After the ice
age land rose and began looking like it today.
Reykjavik is located on the north-American plate.
Earth quakes come often considering Reykjavik is
near a plate boundary.
The population as of 2011 is approximately
118,061. Daily temperatures vary depending on
which season is in. Borgartun is the heart of
financial beings in Reykjavik, having a large
quantity of companies and 3 investment banks.
Reykjavik has been the center of Iceland’s
economic growth over the last decade. This period
is referred to as the “Nordic Tiger Years” or also
“Iceland’s Boom Years”. This “boom” lead to
construction with large redevelopment projects
such as Harpa concert hall and conference center.
