Raising Student Voices         I am heading an energetic team that is dedicated to creating a Student Union that is relevant, representative o the student body, and campaigns on the issues that its members are passionate about. We have the vision and experience to create a Student Union that works eectively or you and your Common Room. The choice o 41 Common Room and Society Presidents, a ormer  OUSU President and 3 OUSU Vice Presidents (in their personal capacity)  [email protected]o // www .joinjake.ino  Jake Leeper OUSU President for  A Fair Student Loan Oxord is the most expensive city or students to live in outside o London, yet students receive no extra weighting in their loans. I will launch, coordinate and sustain a campaign to bring Oxord student loans in line with those given to London students.  A air deal on Rent With colleges: Sustained rent rises have a negative impact on the academic, social and fnancial wellbeing o students. I will support Common Rooms in gaining the negotiation skills, expertise and inormation to challenge unair rent rises. With landlords: Too oten we are exploited by landlords. I want to redress the inequality o inormation and power between landlords and students. I will provide an online orum or students to review agencies and properties, and support students in exercising their ull rights as tenants. Discount Card OUSU should do more to reduce the cost o li e or students in Oxord. I want to use OUSU’s collective power to provide Oxord wide discounts and last-minute email deals.  A Voice or  Fairness Listening to Common Rooms OUSU should support Common Rooms oicers to achieve what they want to achieve. Through close and regular contact with your elected representatives, and by providing relevant training and support, OUSU can help create meaningul change at a Common Room level. Helping Common Rooms be heard Students should have a voice at all levels o college decision- making, it’s unacceptable that there are still Common Rooms without representation and voting rights on Governing Body, Finance Committee and other major college committees. I will campaign to make sure that your voices are listened to.  A Voice or Common Rooms  As President o the Oxord Hub For the last our terms I have led one the largest University-wide organisations. I have been responsible or a budget o £60,000, managed 3 ull-time sta members, provided support to over 30 student groups, and communicated events and opportunities to over 4,500 members.  As Freshers’ Fair Organiser I have run this event or the last two years, and worked with over 160 stewards and 390 student societies, organising successul high-profle events that are both important to students and are a vital to OUSU’s fnances.  As JCR Vice-President and Male Welare Ofcer My experience as Vice President and Welare Rep over two years has enabled me to develop an understanding and commitment to help Common Rooms achieve what they want to achieve. I have lobbied or and won compensation or students aected by building work, helped introduce a new academic report system and improved welare provisions. My Experience Examination Transparency The University should not be able to prevent students rom viewing their exam scripts. I will campaign or students to be able to access their papers, starting with scripts or students who have ailed their exams.  An Annual Review that listens to students  OUSU is oten seen as irrelevant and out o touch with its members. I want to send an Annual Survey to all students to ensure that OUSU ocuses its time and eort on providing and developing services students really want  A Fresher’s Fair or everyone The Freshers’ Fair is undeniably a core service, and OUSU should not charge students to attend. The Fair is the only opportunity or students to be able to see Oxord’s clubs and societies, and OUSU should stop using it as incentive to get Common Rooms to afliate.  Transparency on Proctors’ fnes Our disciplinary system needs to be clearer. I will lobby the Proctors to publish an accessible list o possible charges and to abandon their policy o having no limit upon fnes that may be imposed. Proctors should not view discipline in terms o revenue generation but to ensure the wellbeing o students.  A Voice or Openness Increasing Welare Inormation Students should be able to fnd inormation about wel are in one central place. I will work with common room wel are ofcers to provide a comprehensive, up-to-date directory o all wel are services available to students. Standardising Welare Provision Students should not be subjected to a wel are lottery. I will work with Common Rooms and the university to bring all colleges up to the same standard o wel are provision, through campaigning or extra unds or providing extra support or training where appropriate. Extending Counselling Services Waiting lists or the University Counselling Service are too long. I will lobby the University or extra unding or this vital service to ensure students can be seen more quickly.  A Voice or Welfare Online accommodation orum There is not enough support or graduates who have to arrange their own accommodation. I will create a service or graduates to organise accommodation in advance o arriving in Oxord and to help advertise spare rooms. Standardise Financial Guarantee Forms The possible sources o fnances that can be used or paying ees and maintenance costs is not clear. I want to introduce a standardised system, across all colleges, to make it easier or students to access unds. Organise Vacation Events Too oten social events are ocused on undergraduates. I will ensure that events are not just organised or term-time, but that there are regular events during the vacation as well. Graduate Degree Ceremonies Graduating is an important experience in Oxord, yet many international students are orced to miss out. I want to make sure that there are more graduates ceremonies in July-September to cater or these students.  A Voice or Graduates Maniesto produced by Jake Leeper and Alan Kilpatrick
