What is deforestation?

Deforestation is the cutting of trees in a major forest without them being replanted.

Rainforests are cut for logging, fuel-wood, mining and industry, tourism, and agriculture.

Without the trees in place the area around the rainforest is subject to erosion, loss of life, and desertification.

Deforestation Facts

Rainforests are disappearing at about 80 acres/min (about one and a half acres a second)

Rainforest once covered 14% of earths surface, now they cover 6%.

Two and a half acres of rainforest could contain 750 types of trees.

More than 20% of world oxygen is world atmosphere is cleaned in rainforests.

Dangers of Deforestation

Rainforests are cut for logging, fuel-wood, mining and industry, tourism, and agriculture.

Erosion, destruction of animal habitats, absence of windbreaks, contribution to global warming, and loss of carbon-scrubbing trees are all dangers of deforestation.

Environmental Effects of Deforestation

Rainforests (and all forests) are usually turned into deserts after they’re chopped down.

This affects all the people and animals that live near the past forest because the environment may change drastically.

The loss of trees can cause a loss of humidity, an increase of temperature, a displacement of animals, and a loss of water and air sources for the surrounding area.
