Note to teachers and parentsWelcome to the second edition of Jamaica Primary Social Studies: a three-level course for grades 4 to 6, specifically aligned to the National Standards Curriculum. Using a wide range of features which develop key 21st Century skills, we aim to nurture confident, active citizens who appreciate their Jamaican identity and are able to make informed and reasoned decisions in the real world.
• Each student book has 10 units which align to the curriculum themes and focus questions
• Units are arranged in curriculum order to assist teachers with planning lessons• A glossary at the end of each book encourages independent learning and a
greater understanding of vocabulary and concepts• A workbook accompanies each level, providing additional activities and
assessments for homework and exam practice• Online teacher resources include information sheets that can be handed out as
alternative sources of research, and printable blank maps for activities
Series overview:
At the beginning of each unit: • Syllabus theme is highlighted
to give context and make students aware of connections between units
• Focus question, key terms, and objectives from the syllabus
At the end of each unit: • An extension activity to stretch students• A summary to consolidate learning • Assessment questions: multiple choice
to check knowledge, and longer, PEP-inspired questions to help assess level of understanding and prepare students for their exams
