WELCOME TO YMCA SUMMER CAMP

Through programs like YMCA Day and Sleepaway Camp, we nurture your child’s sense of

self-confidence and introduce them to positive, fun experiences that build leadership and social

skills. Well-trained, qualified staff serve as positive role models for campers. Y Day Camp enhances

camper’s self-confidence, self-esteem and leadership skills through structured (and fun!) activities.

Campers develop a true understanding of diversity in an atmosphere of acceptance and approval

of the uniqueness of others. Campers are encouraged to be creative, expressive and learn new

skills. Summer learning activities offer a fun way for campers to read and learn over the summer

months. All YMCA Day Camps are licensed by the NYC Department of Health and Accredited by the

American Camping Association (ACA).

YMCA Summer Camp helps campers ages 5 - 12 years old and teens ages 13-15 years old grow

mentally and physically by participating in challenging activities in both small and large group

settings under the supervision of a caring and well trained staff.

SUMMER LEARNING

To succeed in school and life, children and young adults need ongoing opportunities to learn and

practice essential skills. This is especially true during the summer months when children lose much

of what they learn during the school year.

YMCA of Greater New York Day Camps provide high-quality summer learning initiatives that give children a variety of ways to improve reading and math skills and explore music, drama, art and sports. Through fun, themed curriculum that incorporates key academic components, children will practice and further their academic skills, learn to plan and create projects, learn teamwork and develop new skills. To inspire reading, our program will provide books recommended by the Department of Education for summer reading.

OUR CAMP LOCATIONS

The Jamaica YMCA Summer Day Camp operates out of the Jamaica branch, located at

89-25 Parsons Blvd. Jamaica, NY 11432. We also use off-site facilities such as local parks and

schools to conduct our Day Camp.

Our Summer Sleepaway Camp is for boys and girls ages 6-16 from all over the world and is located 86 miles from NYC in Huguenot, NY. There are two villages, McAlister (Ages 6-12) and Talcott (12-15), that are located on our 1,150 acre property.

EXPLORE, PLAY AND GROW.

DAY CAMP Each week of camp provides your child hands-on activities including educational field trips and

theme days.

swimming, summer reading, arts and crafts, health and

fitness and group games. Campers also have the

playgrounds and cultural events. As a part of Explorers

Camp, campers will develop long-lasting friendships and

build solid social skills by learning about and utilizing

our YMCA core values.

SWIM CAMP (AGES 5 - 8) Want to cool off on those hot summer days? Then join

our Swim Camp and learn to swim, while having fun!

Campers will receive swimming instruction multiple

times over the course of the week. Professional

aquatics staff will direct the kids in pool safety, positive

behavior, and taking on challenging new swimming skills

such as front and back floating, front paddle stroke, and

attention and confidence they need to unlock their full

potential. Summer reading, trips, arts & crafts and

group games are all tied in to create a

well-rounded camp experience.

various sports skills and fundamentals. Campers will

basketball, baseball, soccer, and more; while honing

their skills through fun sports games and activities.

Sports campers will learn about teamwork and

sportsmanship. This group will also go on trips to

various venues related to their weekly themes.

Summer reading, trips, arts & crafts and group games

are all tied in to create a well-rounded camp experience.

CREATIVE CAMP (AGES 9 - 12) Express yourself! Campers will develop their artistic

ability through a wide range of cultural activities

inspired from work of artists from around the world.

(i.e. song & dance, painting, drawing, sculptures and

photography). Campers will also find new avenues of

self-expression and gain an understanding of their

creative potential. Swimming, summer reading, trips,

arts & crafts and group games are all tied in to

create a well-rounded camp experience.

GIRL POWER (AGES 9 - 12) Girls Rock! The Jamaica Y offers a camp specifically

designed for our female campers to explore issues

that are relevant to their common experiences.

Campers are given the opportunity to develop their

self-esteem while building a positive self-image and

helping their peers grow. Swimming, dance, trips,

and creative expression are combined to give the

campers a well-rounded experience.

MOVIN’ ON CAMP (AGES 13 - 15) No half-steppin’! We’re moving up and forward while

focusing on our decision-making, youth development,

character building and many other life skills that are

critical to the way that youth function in society

today. Daily trips and community service projects are

aimed at exposing these young adults to the various

things that can impact them and their communities.
