• the morning of July 2, 1881, while boarding a train, Garfield was shot twice by Charles Guiteau . After he shot Garfield, he shouted “I am a Stalwart. Arthur is now President”.

• Guiteau had mental issues. There was no Stalwart conspiracy. Guiteau was hanged on June 30, 1882. Garfield laid in the hospital for weeks, and finally died on September 19, 1881, only 200 days into his term as President
