Grantees Honored at Annual LuncheonFrom the Desk of Karen Martin-Eliezer

In keeping with what has become the USTA Tennis& Education Foundation’s tradition in the pre-US Openissue of our newsletter, attention is focused on our 2006College Scholarships, Spring Grants and Foundation-related events planned for this year’s US Open.

Spring is always an exciting season for theFoundation as we disburse grants and scholarshipsand help many high school seniors realize their dreamof a college education. This year, 81 college-bound

students received scholarships provided by the Foundation, the MassMutualFinancial Group, the Dwight F. Davis Family and the Marian Wood BairdFamily. Every year we find ourselves marveling at the exceptional students whoapply for financial assistance. They are wonderful young people with goodgrades, who have performed outstanding community service—in addition tomaking tennis their favorite sport! We wish them well as they take this next stepon their life’s journey.

Thirty-seven grants were awarded under the combined “Aces for Kids” initiativeand Foundation support. The Foundation continued its support to severalpreviously funded programs and we are very pleased that so many “new”organizations were successful with their applications.

Moving forward this summer, as usual, there are several Foundation-relatedevents planned at the US Open. We hope you’ll take time to review the calendar of our activities and plan to see us in Flushing Meadows.

Best wishes for a wonderful summer—I hope to see you at the Open!
