CITATION:

"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Leader of a Rifle Platoon serving witil the First Battalion, Twenty-Third Marines, Fourth Marine Division, in action against en-emy Japanese forces on Saipan, 11arianas Islands, 17 June 1944. Pushing forward boidly in the face of terrific fire from Japa-nese guns, Corporal Quick led his group forward aggressively to seize a r idge designated as the company objective and, after reaching the eminence, continuously exposed himself t4> wither­ing hostile blasts in order to locate enemy machine gtulS which were sweeping the area. Mortally wounded while directing the vigorous fire of his unit against the menacing emplacement, Corporal Quick, by his cool courage and fearless determination, inspired all those with whom he served and contributed mate­rially to the success of his company's mission on this vital en. emy stronghold. I1is selfless, unfhltering devotion to duty through­out was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service • .de gallantly gave his llie for his country."

"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while in charge of the 81-mm. Mortar Platoons of the First and Thi.rd Battalions, First Marine Division, in combat against enemy Japanese forces on Cape Gloucester, New Britain, from December 28 t-0 30, 1943. Accompanying the assault 1 troops, Captain Quinn coni!liUally exposed him£elf to enemy \ attack in order to give supporting fire to our forces and, by hls tireless efforts in keeping his communications in- I tact and his continuous observation and skillful direction of mortar fire on hostile positionsl contributed in a large measu~ to the speedy reduction of Japanese defenses dur­ing the assault on the hostile airfield. Captain Quinn's brilliant leadership and extreme bravery were an inspira­tion to all under his command and 1n keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. 0

"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Squad Leade r of Company I, Third Battalion, Twenty-seventh Marines, Fifth Marine Divis ion, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 14 March 1945 . When his platoon was halted by h eavy fir e from a-Beries of enemy empl ace­ments, Sergeant Quinn r epeat edly exposed himself to the intense fire to direct the fire of three tanks s ent to support the platoon, the r eby enabling our armor to destroy the emplacements and permit the infantr y platoon to renew t he advance. His courage , initiative and devotion to duty wer~ in keeping with the high est traditions of the United States Naval s ervice. 11
