James Glenn Carlson March 30, 1924 – August 2, 2016 Glen passed away on Tuesday, August 2 nd following a brief physical decline. He was surrounded by family, and was accompanied by his beloved wife Jean until the end. Glen had a rich and varied life, serving in the Army Air Corps in WWII, receiving a Master’s Degree in English Literature from San Francisco State, teaching guitar and composition, playing and singing in a folk group, painting and participating in peace marches, and practicing as a Jungian Analyst for many years. In 1963, he met his future wife Jean while singing at an art gallery that she had opened in Mill Valley. Jean has said, “We always wanted to have adventures together,” and they certainly did that! In 1971, Glen and Jean traveled to Europe, met up with a friend in Zurich, and it was there that Glen decided that his life’s work would be Jungian Psychology. He graduated from the C.G. Jung Institut-Zurich in 1977. There was never anyone more suited to this pursuit. Glen was a natural when it came to relating to the unconscious. He became a member of the C.G. Jung Institute of Colorado in 1980, and he served as president of that group for many years until his retirement. He was always the one to cut to the chase in Institute discussions with the question, “What is the psychological perspective that we are missing?” Glen has left a mark on many people here in Colorado and beyond. He was a loving husband and family man, a profound psychological presence, a deep thinker, and an extraordinarily wise leader. He will be missed beyond words. Glen is survived by his wife Jean, his sons Lorenzo and Ernie, daughters Liz and Sarah, and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rest in Peace, Glen! We love you.
