Chlor-Alkali Processes Demand The Most Reliable Valves. Period. There can be no compromises when it comes to automated and modulatingcontrol valves in chlor-alkali processing. The same is true for your manual valves. They have to operate safely, consistently and efficiently at all times. Whether it’schemical treatment, caustic evaporation, chlorine cooling, drying, compression, liquefaction or vaporization, your manual, automated and rotary control valves musthandle corrosive liquids and gases of widely varying temperatures and pressures. They must comply with Chlorine Institute Pamphlet 6, rigid chlor-alkali environmen-tal and safety standards and B31.3 Chemical Plant and other related specifications. And they must provide the highest possible performance efficiency cycle after cycle.Jamesbury valves have had 5 decades of success in delivering chlor- alkali processreliability.

Jamesbury Helps YourEnvironmental StrategySucceed.Reliable process containment and elimina-tion of emissions at every stage of yourchlor-alkali process operation is key tosuccessfully meeting rigorous environmentalsafety standards. Once again, Jamesburyvalves’ sensitivity to industry requirements, and reputation for process reliability, get thejob done.

• All stem seals are tested and qualified toISO 15848 or EPA Method 21 emissioncontainment standards.

• Flanged, threaded and weld-end valvescomply with all standards and specifica-tions for chlor-alkali processing includingANSI, ASTM, API, MSS, ISO ASME andChlorine Institute Pamphlet 6.

• Comprehensive foundry qualification andcast component quality program ensuresmetallurgy is consistent with ASTM materialrequirements.

• 100% hydrostatic shell testing assures thestructural integrity of castings to retainpressurized liquid and gaseous Cl2.

• 100% seat testing (both directions) assurescontainment of liquid and gaseous chlorinefor critical isolation and safety shut offapplications.

Jamesbury 3-point valve stem seals haveundergone a 50,000 cycle test with 200oC(392oF) thermal transient to ensure tight-ness to 35 PPM Helium at ambient – and 3.5PPM Helium at temperature – under dynam-ic cycling conditions. The valves are HeliumMass Spectrometer qualified.

Chlor-Alkali Valve Seat and Sealing. Bubble Tight. Trouble Free.Jamesbury seat and sealing technology for chlor-alkai service has a reputation builton reliability. Our Xtreme® flexible polymeric seats for Double-Seal ball valves andWafer-Sphere high-performance butterfly valves have less permanent deformation, resulting in longer cycle life, enhanced thermal cycle performance and better pres-sure cycle capability. Xtreme seats offer up to a 35% increase in temperature atpressure and up to 75% in pressure at temperature over conventional filled fluoro-carbons. This offers valve utilization over greater pressure/temperature envelopes ina broader application range.

Flexible Lip Seat DesignThe flexible lip seat design makes use of themechanical properties of the seat materialand line pressure to increase the effective-ness of the seal. This minimizes seatdeflection, compensates for wear, adjusts fortemperature and pressure excursions, lowersoperating torques, and extends cycle life. The increase in cycle life maximizes processuptime, enhances product quality and mini-mizes maintenance costs. The end result:greater plant profitability.

Xtreme AdvantagesThe Xtreme seating material is a logicalextension of the flexible lip geometry. Itexpands the valve temperature rating to260°C (500°F) at a higher pressure rating of80 Bar (1200 psi).

Xtreme material technology increasesvalve compatibility with a wider range ofchlor-alkali process media:

• Cl2 • NaOH• H2 • H2SO4• KOH • CNa2CO3• Refrigerants • Steam• Chill water • Cooling water

With Jamesbury, a single seat material coversan application range that may require othermanufacturers to use 2 or 3 different materi-als. This means better use of your inventory, greater control over associated costs, andthe elimination of costly errors associatedwith the misapplication of multiple seatmaterials.
