Too much Christmas Cheer, It’s time for a detox
The following is an article from: GAIAM Life
Are you feeling sluggish, having skin and digestive problems or aches and pains. Perhaps you have had too much Christ-mas Cheer and it’s time for a detox.
Detoxing is used as a tool to rest, clean and nourish your body from the inside out. You remove and eliminate toxins which can help protect you from disease and renew your ability to maintain optimum health.
How it works
Detoxification means cleaning the blood which is achievedby removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. When this system is compromised, impurities are not properly filtered and every cell in the body is affected.
Studies show that detoxing can be beneficial for your health and it is recommended that we all should detox at least once a year and. If you have any concerns you should speak to your health care practitioner.
Things to try and avoid when detoxing
Alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, saturated fats and refined sugars all contain things that can be considered toxins and it is best to avoid these where possible to assist in gaining the best result.
We all know that stress is another major factor which affects good health so try some yoga and meditation to help with this.
Which detox program may be best for you?
One of the most common detoxing programs is by way of using the cleansing supplement packages, which have easy-to-follow instructions and are generally safe for your health.

What steps to take once you’ve detoxed to keep your body in optimum health?
1. We all know how good fibre is for us so try to follow a diet which is rich in fibre.
2. Green tea is good for the liver, as well as herbs such as dandelion root, burdock and milk thistle
3. Vitamin C, helps the body produce, a liver compound that drives away toxins.
4. Try to drink at least 2 litres of water per day.
5. Practice deep breathing which allows oxygen to circulate more completely throughout your system.
6. Minimise stress and stressful situations where possible.
7. Have a very hot shower for five minutes, with the water running on your back and follow with cold water for 30 seconds. Do this three times, and then get into bed for 30 minutes.
8. You can eliminate wastes by sweating in a sauna.
9. Dry-brush your skin by using special brushes which are available at health stores.
10. Exercise is considered one of the most important ways to detoxify. Try yoga or jump-roping one hour every day.
