    2015 Report

Dear Ones, Sometimes our hearts cry within us, How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily?... But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me (Psalm 13:1,2,5,6).

Life for all of us is comprised of ups and downs, times of spiritual strength and of weak-ness, of extreme contrasts. All of my family has been with me during the past two weeks [and I will exult over that blessing further down in the report], but everyone is gone now and the house seems very empty. Obviously, that emotional impact is part of my problem.

But I look around at all that needs to be done with the physical responsibilities: the grass needs to be cut again, the weeds are head-tall in places, the bushes and trees are taking over; there was water in the basement, and when it rains there is water running strongly from some mysterious source under another part of the house; the freezer keeps showing a light that the door is ajar even though it isnt and I havent been able to locate the local people to fix the problems. I miss J.C. for countless reasons, but one of those is that standing alone is hard.

I look at all that is stacked up in the office: this report to write today so that the print-ing can be done and it can be mailed before others in the office are out for an extended time; Global Harvest to finish and get to the printer; volume 86 of The Voice of Truth Internation-al to finish; five books to go over and then submit to the printer; emails to write...

So I scold myself, reminding me how blessed I am to have family that does come and that cares, how blessed I am to have physical responsibilities, and how blessed I am that God has entrusted work in my hands! I look back at challenges and problems in the past, and recount the ways God took care of everything that was greater than this limited staff of humans could han-dle, and I wait in faith for Him to rescue me again. He knows the need for more team members here. He knows that, at my age, my years of strong participation are numbered. He knows that the volume of work we are doing cannot continue without additional strong and dedicated co-workers. I remind myself that it is HIS work, not mine, and at the right time, in the right way, and with the right people, He WILL supply what is needed, through Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Bonnie Goes to Her Reward Funeral services for Bonnie Sue Rushmore were conducted Thursday, May 21 begin-ning at 11:30 a.m. at the meetinghouse for the Old Union Church of Christ in rural Carroll County, Mississippi. Grave side services and burial were in the adjacent church cemetery. Louis Rushmore.

It was with mixed feelings that those who love her faced the reality that Bonnie would soon be leaving this world. It hurt us to see her in great pain, it hurt to think of the vacuum in our lives when she would not be here, it hurt to think what an ongoing excruciating pain it would be for Louis not to have her at his side in everything he would be doing yet, knowing that Bonnies condition would only get worse, it was with a feeling of joy for her that we knew on May 18 that she was borne on angels wings to that eternal reward God had

  • promised for His faithful children. Spiritual and physi-cal family were there to offer comfort to Louis and their children.

In addition to Gods help with spiritual strength, two things will be instrumental in Louis healing: their daughter, Rebecca, teaches school and is spending the summer with him; and he has ongoing work to do both here and overseas. Because that work is of great spiritual importance, I know well from my own life what a healing power it will be. We would ask your prayers for him, for the family, and for all of us as we take up the reins and go forward.

Events Here and ThereAn Unexpected Trip

Seldom do I make a spur-of-the-moment decision, but early in May I saw an email about a tour of Israel that Evertt and Ileene Huffard were making. I have long wanted to be a part of such a group. The realization that the Huffards lived in Jerusalem when Evertt was a teenager, that he and Ileene spent fi ve years as missionaries in Nazareth, and that he knows the language, the country and the Scriptures motivated me to respond with an enquiry about the cost. That turned out to be less than anything I had seen, so since I no longer spend money on clothes or other such things, I decided to be one of the group of 21 members of the Lords church. I was overjoyed when my brother, Curtis, and his wife and daugh-ter (Emalee and Casey) also signed up!

The tour was an inspiring journey through much of the Old Testament and the New Testament, shared with Christians who had both Bible knowledge and keen interest in everything they were privileged to see. Each day we had two or three times of devotionals at particular sites, and a lengthy devotional each evening in which we shared our thoughts about the days tour and a Scripture-related lesson. I heartily encourage any of our readers to save toward making such a trip with the Huffards. For more information, contact i h u f f a r d @ h a r d i n g . e d u Phone: 9 01 . 4 3 2 . 77 2 6.

  • The Gospel for which Christ Died Continues to Bring a Harvest:

From Joshua Gootam, Kakinada, IndiaWe held a three-night record-breaking Gospel meeting here in

Kakinada on May 26, 27 & 28. Even though a severe heat wave was blowing across this state, people came in great numbers to hear the Gospel.

This is first time ever in 51 years of the history of the church in modern India that more than 100 congregations in this district came together to plan, finance and execute the open air Gospel meetings on the grounds of McLaurin High School which is a stones throw away from my house. More than 10,000 people were estimated to have attended these meetings. Attendance was highest when I spoke the last two nights. Six preachers were used in those 3 nights. Each congregation generally holds Gospel meetings on their own, but this was good fellowship.

The meetings were extensively advertised both on local TV channels and on huge billboards at important crossroads into the city. Forty thousand handbills were passed out and 4,000 wall posters were used to inform and attract people to the meetings.

All in all, it was a great success.

Between the time of the trial before the Sanhedrin and being taken to Pilate the fol-lowing morn-ing, tradition says that Jesus was kept in this dungeon below Caiphas palace.

The Garden Tomb, probably not the tomb in which our Lord was laid, but the tomb and the surrounding garden and wine press fit the description well.

  • The Gospel is our mission. The world is our home.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and

    of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;

and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.

I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you (John 14:18).

[Angels are] ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation... (Hebrews 1:14).

The Three-Quarters-of-a-Century Birthday! Our daughter, Sheila, and granddaughter, Stephanie, with her two little ones announced plans to come home June

20-July 1; husbands were working and couldnt come; Alex was in training in California for mercenary soldiering; Brad and his family said they would be here June 22-July 3. Someone exclaimed, Your 75th birthday comes during that time! Having been shocked into remembrance of the historic event, I began to put pressure on everyone else to join the crowd: Steve and his family, Darla and Dave; Curtis and his family (including Casey, and Chance, Rylee and their little ones; my sister, Onirah, and her daughter, Betty Ann and her family; J.C.s brother, Don, and his wife and daughters; and spiritual family: the Bates, the Gibsons, Elijah Sanamanda a total of 39! It was such a wonderful and blessed time all faithful members of the Lords church, and loving each other. Even the kids played happily together without a single squabble! No wonder the house seems a lonely place now....

Yes, I now have the advantage of being old enough to have a little clout! Even if I dont get my way, the act of ignoring my wishes is very politely done! Ha! God be with us all in these troubling times. Hugs, Betty
