1. Leadership, management and supervision of the standards work, including the approval of Directives and other rules thereon

2. Approval and review of titles, scopes and strategic policy statements of technical committees

4. Ensuring that the priorities for the technical work based on Sector Board, advisory committee and technical committee recommendations, are set

5. Supervising the timeliness of the work and taking the

necessary corrective actions

6. Coordination of the work of the technical committees by

assigning work to them while seeking advice from

Sector Boards and advisory committees

7. Continuous review of the optimum structures of

technical committees, Sector Boards and advisory

8. Allocation of standards work, setting up of new technical

committees and restructuring or disbanding of existing

technical committees

9. Reviewing the need for, and planning for, IEC work in new fields of technology

10.Setting up of task forces to advise the SMB on matters not covered by technical committees, or on improvement of the performance of the technical work

11.Consideration of matters raised by National Committees on technical questions submitted for approval to the National Committees under the relevant voting procedures and of any problems arising from the voting on technical documents

for the standards work, in cooperation with ISO

ACOS is responsible for the following guides:

• IEC Guide 104 preparation of safety publications and the use of Basic Safety

/ Group Safety publications.

• IEC Guide 110 background information to technical committees when

dealing with safety requirements for products intended to be integrated in a

home control system.

• IEC Guide 112 guidelines for using the current editions of IEC 60065 and

IEC 60950-1 in evaluating the safety of multimedia equipment

• IEC Guide 116 gives guidelines for safety related risk assessment and risk

reduction for low voltage equipment

• IEC Guide 117 provides guidance for assessing the risk, to any person, of a

burn from contact with hot touchable surfaces of electrotechnical equipment

• ISO/IEC Guide 51 provides guidelines for the inclusion of safety aspects in

standards;

• ISO/IEC Guide 50 addresses potential sources of bodily harm to children

from products that they use, or with which they are likely to come into

contact, even if not specifically intended for children

Environmental Affairs

• ACEA is responsible for IEC Guide 109:

Environmental aspects - Inclusion in

electrotechnical product standards.

• TCs are strongly recommended to consult

this guide for advice on the consideration

of environmental aspects when drafting

product standards.

ACEC Advisory Committee on

Electromagnetic Compatibility

• ACEC is responsible for the mandatory

IEC Guide 107 which provides guidelines

on drafting electromagnetic publications

and through which it coordinates the EMC

work of IEC's technical committees.

ACEE Advisory Committee on

Energy Efficiency

ACEE deals with energy efficiency matters which are

not specific to one single technical committee of the

IEC. It coordinates activities related to energy

efficiency.

ACEE is responsible for the assignment of

Horizontal energy efficiency aspects and

requirements.

ACEE provides guidance for implementation in

a general perspective and for specific sectors.

It encourages a systems perspective for the

development of standards for energy efficiency.

ACSECAdvisory Committee on

Information Security

ACSEC deals with information security and

data privacy matters which are not specific to

one single technical committee of the IEC. It

coordinates activities related to information

security and data privacy, and provides advice

to the SMB on those subjects.

ACSEC provides guidance to TC/SCs for

implementation of information security and

data privacy in a general perspective and for

specific sectors.

Robot Technologies

• Coordinating common aspects of robotic

technology such as vocabulary and symbols.

• Preparing a guideline that outlines the critical

aspects (as described in the report) of preparing

a standard for products that incorporate robotic

technology.

• Promoting collaboration between IEC and ISO as

it relates to robotic technologies.

• Resolving current overlaps and developing a

process

• to prevent future overlaps, both within the IEC

and between IEC and ISO.

• Strong collaboration with the IEC CAB
