- had a good education for a girl at that time
- inseparable from her 2 years elder sister, Cassandra and lived together all of their live
-to amuse themselves Jane and her sister wrote and performed plays and charades
-Jane at the age of 8 and Cassandra 10, were sent for schooling with a tutor in Oxford
-after breaking out a typhoid fever both girls fell ill and their mother rushed them back to Steventon
- 2 years later they were sent for a boarding school again but the family did not have enough money
-at the age of 11 onwards Austen educated herself with books from her father's library, which he encouraged
- wrote her first novel at the age of 14, Love and Friendship
JANE‘S SECRETS- enjoyed dancing- went to balls in many of the great houses in
the neighbourhood- loved the country , enjoyed long country
walks and had many Hampshire friend- she wished real life could be more like a novel- in 1801 the family moved away to Bath

Although her first novel, Sense and Sensibility, (did not appear until 1811)
Pride and Prejudice -published two years later - 1813.
Combinates irony, humor and sophisticated observations between the classes
Works have gone on to inspire adaptations to the stage and film in 21st. century
Her novels were not really appreciated until after her death. Two hundred years later these popular stories have been made into both television series and film.

Emma Woodhouse is very rich, pretty and clever. She is a matchmaker. Her matchmaking causes mistakes and unhappiness.

It is a parody of gothic romances by Ann Radcliff. This story is about Catherine Morland and her crazy imagination and hobbies in romantic and scary books.
Northanger Abbey
It‘s about Anne‘s life and her unfulfilled love to a poor boy. Lots of years later they meet again and their love always remains.
