In early 2014 the City decided to commemorate its first 75 years with the creation of a Sugar Hill history book. City of Sugar Hill, Georgia: The First 75 Years consists of 162 beautiful pages full of Sugar Hill stories. Founded in 1939 as the Town of Sugar Hill, the City was later named the City of Sugar Hill in 1975. This book details the “unofficial” story behind the name and embraces the bright, growing future ahead for the developing city. The rich information this book contains has been collected from a variety of publications, from personal observations and includes anecdotes from many residents and neighbors. While much of the information has been verified, some of it is the sweet personal stories of some of Sugar Hill’s oldest residents. Sugar Hill, Georgia: The First 75 Years is available for purchase for $35 at the Customer Service desk in City Hall. Thank you to all who contributed to the making of this book. Your efforts and stories are greatly appreciated, without them Sugar Hill wouldn’t be the City that it is today. A special thank you to Tracy Williamson, the Graessle family, Tim Beck, and Marc Cohen for their countless efforts and diligent work to make this treasure a reality. Investing in the future of our City is a high priority for Sugar Hill. Our Mayor, City Council, and City staff have a great relationships with the local schools and enjoy participating in school events. Throughout 2015 City officials and staff have participated in student-teacher basketball games, Principal for the Day Events, judging competitions, mentoring programs and many others. As the new year is upon us, Sugar Hill continues to look for more ways to be involved in our community and our schools. Mayor Steve Edwards and Mayor Pro Tem Brandon Hembree viewed student presentations. Council Member Mike Sullivan was Principal for the Day Marc Cohen and the North Gwinnett Schools Foundation raised a generous amount for the Gwinnett Cluster Schools. DDA Chairman, Taylor Anderson was Principal for the Day The City Council celebrated the Teachers of the Year at the November Council Meeting
