Janice Lee Warren 253.302.3534 [email protected] The warm light of a September afternoon will shine everyday on the wall at 107 N 2 nd Street. Raven will hold the Moon tight in his beak over Hope Heights. Sparks fly from a machinist’s grinder at the old Waterman foundry. Clusters of swallows swoop along a concrete bridge. These are some of the images Janice Warren has painted in murals for the Tacoma Mural Project. Warren searches for balance in her paintings: dense color, dramatic lighting, and delicate rendering counteract heavier subjects, like industrial landscape, history, and urban culture. Her style, figurative and narrative, adapts well with community symbols and stories. Her other interests, historic and architectural, include cultural patterns and local heritage. Janice Lee Warren holds a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Quincy University and a Masters in Teaching in art and social studies from Heritage University. She has painted many murals for commercial and residential clients in Washington and six other western states. Over her long career she has also acquired experience in constructing displays and art restoration.

Stadium District, 2013 120 Tacoma Avenue N. Artist: Janice L. Warren. Artist assistant: Liza A. Brown The Stadium District is a designated historic neighborhood in one of the oldest and scenic areas of Tacoma. Most of the boundaries are cozily set at a beautiful park, or an imposing school building, or along charming streets; but the north residential border needed something besides gray and graffitied cement walls. The community requested a historic image. Warren’s solution was to brighten this corner with a 1960s-era image of a parade of neighbors, merchants and children enjoying some music on a perennial, warm September afternoon.
