being administered.8. To disconnect, turn all controls to the off (“O”) position, then remove plug from outlet.9. Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.

10. Keep fingers away from all moving parts. Special care is required around the sewingmachine needle.

11. Always use the proper needle plate. The wrong plate can cause the needle to break.12. Do not use bent needles.13. Do not pull or push fabric while stitching. It may deflect the needle causing it to

break.14. Switch this sewing machine off (“O”) when making any adjustment in the needle

area, such as threading the needle, changing the needle, threading the bobbin orchanging the presser foot, and the like.

15. Always unplug this sewing machine from the electrical outlet when removing covers,lubricating, or when making any other adjustments mentioned in this owner’s

Before Using Your Sewing MachineBefore using your sewing machine for the firsttime, place a waste fabric under the presser footand run the machine with thread for a fewminutes. Wipe away any oil which may appear.

For Your Safety* While in operation, always keep your eyes on

the sewing area. Do not touch any movingparts, such as the thread take-up lever,handwheel or needle.

* Always turn off the power switch and unplugfrom the power supply:- When leaving the machine unattended- When attaching or removing any parts- When cleaning the machine

* Do not place anything on the foot control,when not sewing.

Controlling Sewing SpeedSewing speed can be varied by the foot control.The harder you press on the foot control, thefaster the machine runs.

Polarized plugThis appliance has a polarized plug (one blade widerthan the other). To reduce the risk of an electricshock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outletonly one way. If the plug does not fit in the outlet,reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact aqualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do notmodify the plug in any way.Foot Controller Model YC-482J-1 or TJC-150 is usedwithSewing Machine Model TB-12.

Setting Spool PinsThe spool pins are used for holding the spoolsof thread when feeding the thread to the ma-chine.Spool pins are separately packed to prevent any

damage in transit.

Therefore, fix the holder of spool pins in place with

a screwdriver, as shown in the figure.

Remove the thumb screw q by turning itcounterclockwise with a screwdriver.

The drop feed lever is located in the hook area.To Drop or Raise the Feed Dogs

To drop the feed dogs, press the lever in thedirection of the arrow, as illustrated.

To raise the feed dogs, push the lever in thedirection of the arrow, as illustrated, and turnhandwheel towards you. Feed dogs must be upfor normal sewing.

* In general, fine thread and needles are usedfor sewing thin fabrics, and thicker threads andneedles are used for sewing heavy fabrics.Always test thread and needle size on a smallpiece of fabric which will be used for actualsewing.

* Use the same thread for needle and bobbin. * When sewing stretch, very fine fabrics and

synthetics, use a BLUE TIPPED needle. Theblue tipped needle effectively prevents skippedstitches.

z Turn off the power switch.Raise the needle to its highest position byturning the handwheel counterclockwise,toward you, and lowering the presser foot.Loosen the needle clamp screw q byturning it counterclockwise. Remove theneedle from the needle clamp w.

x Insert a new needle into the needle clampwith the flat side to the rear. When insertingthe needle into the needle clamp w, push itup as far as it goes. Tighten the needle clampscrew q firmly by turning it clockwise.

c To see if the needle is good, place the flatside of the needle onto something flat (e.gneedle plate or glass).The gap between the needle and the flatsurface should be consistent. Never use abent or blunt needle.A damaged needle can cause permanentsnags or runs in knits, fine silks and silk-likefabrics.

To remove the bobbin case w from the shuttle,pull open the latch of the bobbin case. Pull thebobbin case w straight out of the shuttle.

Changing Presser Foot• To remove

Turn the handwheel toward you to raise theneedle to its highest position. Press the leverq on the back of the foot holder. The presserfoot will drop off.

x Draw the thread from spool.Pass the thread through the topcover threadguide.

v Insert the thread through the hole in thebobbin from the inside to the outside.Put the bobbin on the bobbin winder spindle.

b Push it to the right.

n With the free end of the thread held in yourhand, depress the foot control.Stop the machine when it has made fewturns, and cut the thread close to the hole inthe bobbin.

m Depress the foot control again.When the bobbin is fully wound, stop themachine. Return the bobbin winder spindle toits original position by moving the spindle tothe left, and cut the thread.

, Tighten the stopmotion knob to engage theclutch.

Note:Return the bobbin winder spindle when themachine stops.

• Starting to sewRaise the presser foot and position the fabricnext to a seam guide line on the needle plate(5/8˝ [1.6 cm] is most common). Lower theneedle to the point where you want to start.Lower the presser foot and pull the threadstoward the back. Depress the foot control.Gently guide the fabric along a seam guideline letting the fabric feed naturally.

• Finishing sewingTo fasten the ends of a seam, press thereverse stitch control and sew several reversestitches. Raise the presser foot. Remove thefabric, draw the threads to the back and cutthem with the thread cutter. The threads arenow the proper length to begin sewing the nextseam.CAUTION: Do not place fingers near thepresser foot when guiding fabric, or theneedle clamp screw may strike and injureyour fingers.

To Change Sewing DirectionStop the machine and turn the handwheel towardyou to bring the needle down into the fabric.Raise the presser foot.Pivot the fabric around the needle to change sew-ing direction as desired. Lower the presser footand continue sewing.

Use the Seam GuidesThe seam guides on the needle plate are thereto help you measure seam width. The numberson the needle plate indicate the distancebetween the center needle position and theedge of the fabric. The lines are 1/8˝ (0.3 cm)apart, and are engraved at 3/8˝, 4/8˝, 5/8˝ and6/8˝. The lines in millimeters are 5 mm apart,and are engraved at 10 mm, 15 mm and 20 mm.

The zigzag stitch is one of the most commonand versatile stitches. It can be a utility stitch forbutton sewing, buttonhole making, hemming,overcasting, mending and darning.It can also be used to decorate with trims,appliques and cut work, or as a decorativestitch.

This stitch is useful in garment construction, andin finishing the raw edges of any sewing project.Start overcasting about 1/8˝(0.3 cm) inside theraw corner of a fabric. The right tip of the stitchshould just clear the row edge.

This knit stitch is ideal for sewing swimwear andstretch velour because it provides the greatestamount of elasity and strength. Place your fabricto allow a 1.6 cm (5/8˝) seam.Trim the seam allowance after sewing.

Note:Be careful not to cut the stitches.

Use it to reinforce areas such as crotch andarmhole seams as well as to eliminate puckeringon knits and stretch fabrics. Also use whenconstructing items requiring extra strength suchas backpacks.

This strong, durable stitch is recommendedwhere both elasticity and strength are necessaryto ensure comfort and durability.

Sew on stretch fabrics in any area that youmight use a zigzag stitch. This stitch is alsoused as a decorative topstitch.

To adjust buttonhole stitch density:

Set the stitch length dial between 0.5 and 1.0 toadjust the buttonhole stitch density.

z Carefully mark buttonhole length on fabric.Place the fabric under the foot with thebuttonhole marking running toward you.

x Slide both threads to the left.Line up the foot with the top mark on thefabric. Lower the needle into the fabricwhere the buttonhole is to start, and lower thefoot.

c Set the pattern selector dial at “ ”.Sew forward until you reach the front markingof your buttonhole.Stop sewing at a left stitch.

v Set the pattern selector dial at “ ”.Sew 4 to 6 stitches. Stop sewing at a rightstitch.

b Set the pattern selector dial at “ ”.Sew until you reach the back marking of thebuttonhole.Stop sewing at a right stitch.

n Set the pattern selector dial at “ ”.Sew a few bartacks and raise the needle fromthe fabric.Set the stitch length dial to “0” and the patternselector dial at straight sewing.Sew a few locking stitches.

m Remove the fabric from the machine and cutthe sewing thread. Insert a pin inside thebartack. Then cut the opening with a seamripper.Take care not to cut the stitches.
