Editor’s Letter to the first issue of The Seattle Woman! I can’t believe this day is finally here – that we (the team here at ALS Publishing) have this amazing opportunity to meet you where you are in life. To all the single ladies, wonderful wives, busy moms, and working women – we are are thrilled to share with you what your heart, mind, and soul needs to here. With that being said, I believe we all need a little break sometimes. We get so caught up with checking things off our to do lists (that seem to cultivate by the minute) that it’s hard to feel like we can push pause. So right now, I encourage you to curl up on your couch with your cat (I say this as my own feline friend jumps onto my desk) and discover how The Seattle Woman magazine can inspire you, lift you up, and push you forward. THE TREND BOARD As Lauren Hutton once said, “Fashion is what you are offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” Well let me tell you (soon-to-be) friends, she is absolutely right. Your style is what sets you apart and gives people around you a sneak peek of who you are. So we’ll offer you the trends – but take them and make them your own! THE TREND BOARD for this month is all about outerwear. There’s no going through this season without a closetful of coats. But don’t worry if you have some empty hangers in your wardrobe, we’ll get you covered up with a look at fall 2014’s outerwear trends. MEET AND GREET Either under the radar or out in the open, there are so many people in the city and on the outskirts that are doing marvelous things and making a significant impact. We want you to to get connected with these ordinary people doing extraordinary things and be able to take something away from their story. Believe me, Seattle-based image consultant Bruce Pflaumer was the perfect fit for our first MEET AND GREET. Let us introduce to you the man who could very well be the next Tim Gunn – but even better. FASHION HISTORY 101 Whether you breezed through history class in high school or read your assigned readings diligently, you may have missed out on how fashion weaved its way through the pages of our past. So what better way to appreciate the clothes we wear then to recognize their origins? Each monthly issue, there will be a charming and informative section dedicated to tracing back an article of clothing that we wear today. For the September issue, educate yourself on the parka. Think fast: Who wore it first? And no, the answer is not David Beckham (hint hint: igloos). WOMEN OF OUR PAST As women, we always look to other women for style input, for advice on marriage, love, and health tricks and for support through tough times. Yet our greatest advisors, counselors, and supporters are possibly people we never got the chance to meet (but would have really liked to). This portion of the magazine is dedicated to inspiring women of our past who can help us in the present. Although our hearts are still heavy from the loss of such a noble lady, we would like to honor Maya Angelou and the astounding life she led and the lives she deeply moved. Maybe you too, will find some encouragement. IT’S HAPPENING Let us answer the five W’s for you (Who, what, when, where, and why). Clearly, there is a lot going on around here – fashion shows, book signings, musical concerts (it would have been great if someone had told us Il Divo was in town last month!) and so much more. We don’t want you to miss out on the spectacular happenings so we’ll give you the run- down. In fact, you better start shopping for a glittery gown because Seattle Goodwill’s annual Glitter Gala is just around the corner! All together, we hope that you find much joy perusing through the pages of this issue just as we did the moment it arrived at our office here in Seattle. Enjoy, Welcome The Seattle Woman | Editor’s Letter
