Renovations in Full Swing We’ve already placed an order for the organ, and we’re expecting delivery sometime in February. You have given $35,000 towards the organ so far. The bottom floor of the FLC is almost complete, and we’re looking to move back in within the next 10-12 days. And then the middle floor will be under construction for the month of February, except on Sundays. We’ll mostly use the bottom level and back entrances to the FLC during the weekdays until the Gym level is complete. For more information you can contact members of our Building & Capital Improvement Committee: Matt McRee (chair), Brad Burton, Jamie Cleveland, Earl Ferguson, Debby Harbin, Westley Harbin, Bo Lowery and Michelle Whitworth. Wednesday Start Up January 16 We will start back with Wednesday night activities on January 16. The Student Ministry will meet on January 9, but the Chil- dren’s Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Heart Min- istry and Pastor’s Class will begin on January 16. All classes (except students) will meet in the SEC (Sanctuary, Education & Children’s) Building. We will not start Wednesday Suppers back until the FLC renovations are completed. Also, because the Gym will likely be under construction during most of February, we will not host our annual “Souper Bowl” lunch. Blessing Our Community Our Missions Committee is challenging our congregation to “Bless Our Community” with gifts of appreciation to any of our community’s Public Safety Personnel. Instruction sheets have been distributed to each of our Small Groups with the offer to use Missions Committee funds to help finance “Appreciation Gifts.” Examples of gifts include cakes or pastries or gift cards for law enforcement, EMS, fire depart- ments or hospital groups. We’re asking that any group taking on this challenge coordinate their effort through the church office so there can be some balance and organization. The goal is to share the love of God and show appreciation to those who are helping to keep our community safe. We have received thank you notes from the following people. They are posted on the bulletin board in the education building. The Turner Family

As the renovations continue, room availability in the Family Life Center can change from week to week. Be sure to watch your email and the Facebook page for updates. We appreciate your patience as we try to accommodate all the groups that use the building.

We start back this coming Wednesday, January 9th with FUEL and resume the regular times… doors open at 5, worship starts at 6:30.

Chaos Weekend (Disciple Now) is February 22-24. If anyone can be a host home, please contact Doug - [email protected]. This involves hosting a leader and up to 5-6 students in your home for two nights (Friday and Saturday). They mainly will be there at night as we will have them busy with activities and sessions during the day.

We Celebrate Marilyn Breeback’s 10 years Service on FBC Staff Marilyn and Jack Breeback have lived in Lavonia, raised their children here and been faithful members of our congregation for many years. In January 2009 Marilyn joined our church staff as a part-time custodian. She works quietly and diligently at helping keep our campus and facilities in great shape. If you happen to see the lights on in our buildings long before daybreak, it’s because Marilyn is already on the job cleaning our facilities. We are thankful she has served the past 10 years and hope she will continue on for many more! Next time you see her you can thank her for a job well done!

Senior Adult Events

All Senior Adults are invited to join us for breakfast, Tuesday, January 22 at 8:30 in

the Fellowship Hall.

We believe the Fellowship Hall will be ready by then. Watch your email and the bulletin just in case we need to make a change due

to renovations.

The purpose of New Year’s resolutions is simple: refusing to settle for the status quo, and resolving to change it. Unfortu-nately, most of us have experienced enough broken resolu-tions that we’ve become jaded. But what if we started viewing resolutions differently: less about improving ourselves and more about improving the lives of others? Less about achiev-ing our dreams and more about aligning ourselves with God’s dreams? Through the story of Nehemiah, we are invited to rise above self-improvement and build something that will last way beyond January - even if it’s one brick at a time.
