Dec 21, 2005 #63TLCFirst, I just wanted to say that I hope and pray that all of you have a very enjoyable and peaceful holiday season. While it is not the time for TLC to hit your email boxes, I do have a few things to pass your way.

On Christmas day, Fay will host a dinner for family and friends. The starting time is anywhere from 2:30PM and 3PM.

Polly and Larry will be away for a short while, but with the many blessings, they should return sometime on Christmas day. Please pray for their travels and safe return.

Uncle Dan has sent funds to be divided by Fay and handed to each noted recipient.

Uncle Walter sends his holiday wishes to you and yours. Watch your Public Service bill, as the FCC has agreed for a small yet

noticeable increase. Not sure when this will take place, but you water bill will increase in the

coming months. Check the website for the exact amount. Happy first day of winter, merry Christmas, Happy Kwanza. Moreover,

if I don’t get a chance to speak with you, enjoy your New Year celebrations.

I hope your days and nights are most peaceful. Not just at this time of the year, but each and everyday. Nevertheless, I wanted to pass on information to those of you who gladly pickup that credit card for purchases. (Now isn’t this the most appropriate time for this information to be reported? ) It is unfortunate that so many, too many people fail or refuse to watch the

news. Whether it be religious reasons, lack of time or loss of interest, one might find of interest what the new laws the government has placed on the people. While so many raced to participate in “Black Friday,” I do hope that they are aware that after the new bankruptcy laws, that the government has once again accustomed big businesses once again.

All of you who participated in Black Friday and continue to give to retailers in the weeks ahead, beware of the new laws regarding finances such as interest rates on mortgages loan, personal loans, credit cards, etc.

While the world watched the displaced Katrina evacuees, many if not most paid attention how our own government reacted. Jobs were and still are scarce while everything you purchase continues to increase in price. Hold on to what you have. While I am not here to preach or share my religious beliefs, I am just only making note of what I see and have noticed how much things have changed around me. Let me go on to say that I have not lost my faith in the good Lord, however, I have lost all if any, confidence I had in bureaucracy. Again, I am not here to preach as to what you should and should not believe in, as I myself believe that I (we) will continue to survive. However, I will hold steadfast and keep alert as to how our controllers plague the laws and how they will effect my daily living. While many of you are devoted Christians, religious zealots etc, it has been preached as well as written, that it is better to give than to receive. That’s a good thing! But, does charity always consist of giving money? Now, with Christmas around the corner and many have and will put purchases on the plastic, I only ask that you pay close attention to the new laws being passed. I share the following:

If you are a frequent user of credit cards, and you do not pay your balance in full at the end of each month, you need to be aware of the new law effective January 1, 2006. FDIC is requiring banks to DOUBLE the minimum credit card payment due from 2.00% to 4.00% starting January 1, 2006, effectively doubling any minimum payment you may presently have due or presently make. This means for example: A minimum payment on a $9000 balance rises from $180 to $360 a month - A minimum payment on a $20,000 balance rises from $400 to $800 a month.

So far, MBNA, Citibank and Bank of America have announced they are doubling minimum monthly payments. If you have bankcards with these providers, you may want to read the small print in your monthly statements. (I know many of us do not read the inserts).

Again, I know Christmas is around the corner and many have and will put purchases on the plastic. If you are not paying your balances in full at the end of the month now, you may want to re-think and consider how and when you use your credit cards.

While watching MSNBC, I made note of some of the examples given when consumers failed to make payment on their credit cards and the interest rate went from 13% to 26%. Again, just a reminder that my beliefs have not waned, but just paying close attention as to how much my controllers have control over me. ALL of us rely on the government for our livelihood to resume. Some of you may think you don’t, but YOU DO. If you don’t believe me, read the news and follow how many jobs have been lost since this current administration.

The unemployment rate was unchanged in November at 5.0 percent. The jobless rate has ranged between 4.9 and 5.1 percent since May. The number of unemployed persons, 7.6 million, was essentially unchanged in November. The unemployment rates for adult men (4.3 percent), adult women (4.6 percent), teenagers (17.2 percent), whites (4.3 percent), and Hispanics or Latinos (6.0 percent) showed little or no change in November. The jobless rates for blacks (10.6 percent) and, specifically, for adult black women (9.1 percent), rose over the month. In November, the unemployment rate for Asians was 3.6 percent, not seasonally adjusted.Are you self-employed? Doesn’t matter, you are still and will be effected when purchasing business supplies to run your Company effectively. Preachers, caregivers, building contractors, data processors, etc - EVERYONE is effected; no one is excluded. You work for the government, a Company in business for 25 plus years? Well, it does not matter - you are still effected.

Seven Baby Steps to Get Out of Debt From the show Total Money Makeovers#1: Save $1,000 Cash as a Starter Emergency Fund (as fast as you can) Money magazine says that 78 percent of us will have a major negative event in a given 10-year period of time. Life happens, so be ready. Stop everything and focus. Twist and wring out the budget, work extra hours, sell something, or have a garage sale, but quickly get your $1,000. #2 Pay Off All Your Debt Using the Debt Snowball List all your debts (except the house) in order of smallest payoff balance to largest. Then pay the minimum payment to stay current on all the debts except the smallest. Every dollar you can find from anywhere in your budget goes toward the smallest debt until it is paid. Once the smallest is paid, the payment from that debt is added to the next smallest debt. When debt number two is paid off, you attack three, and so on. #3 Finish the Emergency Fund A fully funded emergency fund covers three to six months of expenses. When the big stuff happens, like the job layoff or the blown car engine, you can't depend on credit cards. If you use debt to cover emergencies, you have backtracked. A strong foundation in your financial house includes the big savings account, which will be used just for emergencies. #4 Invest 15 Percent of Your Income in Retirement The rule is simple: Invest 15 percent of before-tax gross income annually toward retirement. #6 Pay Off Your Home Mortgage Put all of the intensity and financial power you put toward your debt snowball to pay your house off as quickly as possible. Seven Baby Steps to Get Out of Debt From the show Total Money Makeovers#1: Save $1,000 Cash as a Starter Emergency Fund (as fast as you can) Money magazine says that 78 percent of us will have a major negative event in a given 10-year period of time. Life happens, so be ready. Stop everything and focus. Twist and wring out the budget, work extra hours, sell something, or have a garage sale, but quickly get your $1,000. #2 Pay Off All Your Debt Using the Debt Snowball List all your debts (except the house) in order of smallest payoff balance to largest. Then pay the minimum payment to stay current on all the debts except the smallest. Every dollar you can find from anywhere in your budget goes toward the smallest debt until it is paid. Once the smallest is paid, the payment from that debt is added to the next smallest debt. When debt number two is paid off, you attack three, and so on. #3 Finish the Emergency Fund A fully funded emergency fund covers three to six months of expenses. When the big stuff happens, like the job layoff or the blown car engine, you can't depend on credit cards. If you use debt to cover emergencies, you have backtracked. A strong foundation in your financial house includes the big savings account, which will be used just for emergencies. #4 Invest 15 Percent of Your Income in Retirement The rule is simple: Invest 15 percent of before-tax gross income annually toward retirement. Make the most of your 401K at work especially if your company matches. Invest in a diverse portfolio of mutual funds with a good track record. And put the rest of the 15 percent into a Roth IRA. #5 Save for College When you save for your child's college tuition, you must make at least seven percent per year on your investment to keep up with inflation increases. I suggest funding college with an Educational Savings Account funded in a growth stock mutual fund. The ESA grows tax free when used for higher education.#6 Pay Off Your Home Mortgage Put all of the intensity and financial power you put toward your debt snowball to pay your house off as quickly as possible. Imagine how good the grass will feel under your feet when it's paid for. Without a house payment, you have control of your greatest wealth-building tool—your income. #7 Build Wealth Here's the payoff. Ron "Superfly" O'Neal dies Jan. 16th. The seventies blaxploitation icon from the 1972 film "Superfly," Ron O'Neal has died at the age of 66. His role as cocaine dealer, Youngblood Priest, made him an unforgettable member of filmmaking history. After a lengthy bout with cancer, O'Neal died Wednesday evening at Cedars Sinai, according to his wife, Audrey Pool O'Neal.

Another Black-Owned Company Sells Out Essence Communications, the parent company of Essence Magazine, sold the magazine to Time Warner, the largest publishing company in the world. Earl G. Graves, publisher of Black Enterprise, says that before selling to Time Warner, the owners of Essence magazine should have allowed Blacks companies to make an offer to purchase the company.

26 Puffers Stolen the First Week of 2005 The Denver Police Department is concerned that people are still leaving their vehicles running unoccupied known as PUFFERS. They have issued numerous warnings through the media not to be a "PUFFER" and the risks of this behavior. Drivers are making it easy for the thieves because of their negligence. Stolen vehicles are used in the commission of other crimes, sold or sometimes stripped for parts. Please don't leave your vehicle unattended while running so you are not a victim of this crime, too!

NEW INFORMATION: Scholarship Opportunity - The Urban League of Metropolitan Denver, Inc. is

accepting applications for the National Urban League Scholarship. The scholarship is a one-time $10,000 scholarship for one year of study beginning in the fall of 2005. The scholarship is open to African American high school graduating seniors who have a GPA of at least 2.7, are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who have membership in an Urban League Affiliate. REMINDER(S): First let me begin by saying that I hope and pray all of you enjoyed your holiday season.

With all of that and the elections behind us, there is something that remains in the forefront from the previous year of 2004. Something that has not and can not be put to bed, done away with, forgotten, not remembered or never, ever, never ever can be overlooked UNTIL, (ONLY UNTIL), it has been addressed, solved and resolved. The matter I speak of, has left one other person and myself very laden and distraught. Several people and I will not name ANY names, as they know who they are. But, several people have entered into a partnership, deal, bet, contract, pact, etc to pay certain monies to one individual due to this partnership, deal, bet, contract, pact etc based on a contest. One particular person won this contest and, well, we want to be paid. Now let me clarify as to why I, me, am laden and burdened by the fact that said monies weren’t paid. The matter is simple (and I just may be as simple –in the mind). Nonetheless, I was the sponsor, mentor, advocate, etc of said winner and backed this individual all the way and consequently, am due to partial earnings of said pay. Until these monies have been paid in full to both said individual, and myself well, well, welllllll… there will be dire consequences. I know!: You will gain 23 pounds every month until said monies are paid. So there!
