ChAIRMAN’s COMMENT2012 was a challenging year for most of us in the travel industry. let’s hope that the New Year is somewhat less challenging and

that the UK economy improves significantly.

Happily, ITT events continue to sell out with over 220 Members having already registered for this summer’s Conference in Abu Dhabi. New events will be introduced this year, the first of which will be the Social Media Masterclass, sponsored by P&O Ferries, which will take place at TTG's headquarters on Friday 8 February.

We are also increasing the number of Network ITT events. From February Network ITT will take place monthly at the magnificent Trafalgar Hotel on Trafalgar Square. Attendance is, of course, free of charge. Please see the website for times and dates.

Finally, I am absolutely delighted to welcome Amadeus as our latest Corporate Partner. I look forward to a long and very productive relationship with one of the world’s leading technology providers.

A very happy and prosperous New Year to all our Members.

Dr Steven Freudmann F.Inst.TT Chairman

Due to popular demand, the 2013 Golf Masters is returning to Bicester hotel Golf & spa, giving last year’s players the opportunity to find the balls they lost in one of the eleven lakes!

The course was built in 1973 and designed by R Stagg. It sits inside the beautiful Oxfordshire Countryside and is a testing 71 par, 18-hole course. For those who fancy making a weekend of it, the hotel is just a short shuttle ride from Bicester Outlet Village. Accommodation at the four star Bicester Hotel can be booked for the weekend or the evening before from as little as £90 a night.

Visit www.itt.co.uk or call ITT Events on 0844 499 5654 to book.

As is now tradition for ITT’s Christmas Cocktails, the snow fell and Members were merry! The function provided the perfect end to ITT’s 2012 calendar of events, crowned by a surprise visit and impromptu speech from The speaker of the house of Commons, the Rt hon John Bercow. ITT would like to thank p&o Ferries for sponsoring the event for the fourth year running. The event raised over £1,500 for ITT’s adopted charity, Just a Drop.

Former UK Transport Secretary, Lord Andrew Adonis, spoke to visitors at WTM about the decision on the third runway at Heathrow. Lord Adonis shed doubt on whether a decision would be made, even after the publication of the Davies Commission Report.

Lord Adonis, who was transport secretary under the previous Government, said “It

would not surprise me if, in 10 years’ time, we were still debating airport capacity in the South East of England!". He also said the delay in making a decision on airport capacity expansion – either a third runway at Heathrow, a new four-runway hub, or another option – was costing the UK “a significant amount”.

retired members christmas lunchITT’s retired Members met in the luxurious surroundings of Flemings hotel, Mayfair, where they were treated to a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings.

ITT Chairman, Steven Freudmann, gave an informal address updating guests on the current activities of the Institute. The event was such a success that a date for the 2013 lunch has already been confirmed – retired Members are urged to put Thursday 5 December 2013 in their diaries now!
