Schulte Rd. 8AM - 9AM January’s an exciting month for all of us! For the most part, we find ourselves reflecting on our lives and setting goals for the New Year. Whether it’s professional or personal goals, everyone attempts to start a new chapter in their life. As an organization dedicated to the creation of a strong local economy, the Chamber realizes the importance of assisting our members in achieving their goal of success in business. This is why we work daily to develop ideas for new programs that will offer networking, business education and community involvement. One new change for the Chamber is the creation of a Home-based Business Group. Our membership is comprised greatly of home-based businesses and there is a great need to provide ongoing education, training, and support to this category of businesses. Guest speakers will be on hand every 3rd Friday of the month at 9AM at the Chamber office to shed light on important topics such as financing, business laws, marketing, etc. This new group is open to all Chamber members and there is no additional cost involved in joining. The first speaker for January 18th will be Roger Birdsall who will discuss financing opportunities for businesses in San Joaquin County. If you are a home-based business you don’t want to miss it! The 2013 calendar of Coffees & Mixers has been finalized and can be found on page 10 of this newsletter. Please mark your calendar and set a reasonable goal to attend as many events as you can. The more presence your business has, the more likely you will be to receive referrals and leads from others! Happy New Year from all of us at the Chamber! Have a Bright Idea? 2013 San Joaquin Entrepreneur Challenge

The San Joaquin Entrepreneur Challenge is an “American Idol” style multi-round business plan competition presented by the San Joaquin Angels in partnership with regional academic and economic development organizations. Interested participants will pitch their ideas for a chance to win $24,000 in cash and business services. Plus, the contest winner has the opportunity to present to the San Joaquin Angels investor group.

Residents of Merced, San Joaquin, Calaveras, Alpine, Amador, Mariposa, Tuolumne, and Stanislaus counties are eligible to apply. Applications are due by February 3rd. Apply online by visiting www.sjchallenge.com .

SCORE Business Planning Workshop

The SCORE Stockton Branch is conducting a free workshop about small business planning on Wednesday, January 30th from 9AM-11:30AM. This workshop will feature business plan support and is held in conjunction with Delta College Small Business Development Center at the WorkNet building at 56 S. Lincoln Street in Stockton. SCORE is a non-profit nationwide organization which offers free business mentoring for start-up or existing businesses. SCORE is affiliated with the Small Business Administration and offers one hour free consulting on a monthly basis at the Tracy Chamber office. 2013 Labor Law Poster Reminder All storefront businesses by law must post a 2013 Labor Law Poster at their place of business! Failure to do so may result in fines to your business! Order your Labor Law Poster by calling the Chamber at 209-835-2131. Prices are $25 for non-laminated and $35 for laminated.
