Happy New Year! Here’s to hoping 2014 brings good things to you and yours. It’s the time of year when we think about what we didn’t accomplish last year and what we would like to focus on in the coming year. No matter which goals you choose to make part of your lives, don’t forget to leave room to enjoy your life in the present. I’ve heard so many statements indicating people will plan to be more happy at the next base, or other things that fall in to the “some day” category. We live our lives in the now. While it’s important to plan goals for the future, the opportunities we have to make the most of the present are ever changing and only last a moment. Our Mad Hatter Tea Party is a great way to start off the year with friends, food, and fun! Also, it’s about time we begin looking forward to the next ASC year, and who will volunteer to fill the positions that help the ASC make a difference in our community. Consider whether you might have some time to contribute to making good things happen! Lastly, if you know others who might be interested in our club, membership dues are only $15 for the remainder of our year! Take care and I hope to see you at our next events! ASC’s Welfare Contributions

You’ve heard we have a lot of fun, but did you know that we have a charitable side to our club as well? Funds raised through our Thrift Shop and Annual Charity Auction have made a positive impact on our community.

This month, the ASC donated a significant amount to the USAFA Equine Therapy Program for Wounded Warriors at the Equestrian Center.

Happy Birthday to all the January

birthdays!

Mini Bunco Club

Thrift Shop Volunteer of the

Month

Congratulations to Bobbi Carrion, the December/January Volunteer of the Month! She has volunteered at the Thrift Shop for the past five years and is usually there on Tuesdays.

She began at the Thrift Shop because she was looking for volunteer work and something to keep her busy at the same time. She enjoys getting to know more people and feeling like a part of the Air Force Academy community.

In her free time, Bobbi works part-time in an accounting office and also volunteers at the Pikes Peak Library District. She enjoys bowling, reading, and learning to crochet.

One thing you might not know is that Bobbi is a retired Air Force Master Sergeant and was stationed in 8 different locations.

Thrift Shop News

We will reopen Tuesday, January 14, 2014.

Reminder of our weather closure policy: We follow Academy School District 20 for weather related closings and delays. If D20 is delayed we will remain closed. Every effort is made to post a message on Facebook of changes to our daily schedule

The USAFA Thrift Shop is run by a fabulous group of dedicated volunteers. We not only raise thousands of dollars that assist with our philanthropic work, but the Thrift Shop provides a wonderful facility for those looking to sell unwanted items, as well as those looking for a bargain.

**Donations are always accepted if you don’t want to consign. Just please drop off donations during business hours—do not leave bags outside the door!
