Christmas is just past us. If you reflect back on those days, hopefully you will be able to recall an admirable kindness of a couple of people to you or through you to others. The Spirit of Christ has been abroad!! He has again been born in our hearts. What a wonderful experience! If you remember the story of “A Christmas Carol,” ole Scrooge changes. It took some doing. But the loving God transformed his heart. And that brings about a great deal of true happiness! This is a time when it behooves us to reflect on that true happiness. The true meaning of Christmas – Christ born in our hearts! Our hearts and the hearts of many others are filled with love and thoughtfulness of others. It is God’s love and it is beautiful! THOUGHTS FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORBy Kathleen Kelly

The other day when the work coordinator announced the job assignments for the day, I noticed that most of the villagerswere enthusiastic and excited about their task. Some of them cheered, some did a fist pump in the air and all of themsmiled and went to work. It is good to see them happy with what they are doing and facing each challenge with courageand determination. It is even more amazing to watch them at work - building birdhouses, painting ceramics, weavingrugs, harvesting black walnuts and making raspberry jam or apple pies in the kitchen. They listen to instructions andthen go about their work, happy and productive.

When Sharing Meadows was still in the planning stage, vocational training was an important issue. We wanted thevillagers to have a structured work day and we especially wanted them to be engaged in meaningful, productive work. The first year or two was a struggle but now we have settled into a great routine that begins with our community prayerservice each morning before everyone heads to work. The villagers enjoy their work and take pride in theiraccomplishments and while they do enjoy an occasional day off (don’t we all?) they are happy to return to work andget back into their routine.

The vocational training program has been enhanced by the presence of many volunteers who share their time and talentwith our villagers, teaching them new skills. Our faithful weavers come each week to teach the villagers the art ofweaving and to keep our looms in good operating shape. Our staff and villagers have learned the art of ceramics –pouring molds, cleaning greenware, painting, glazing and operating the kiln. The villagers are quite adept in thekitchen thanks to the volunteers who taught them to make jam, applesauce and baked goods. The list goes on and on– jewelry making, sewing, grounds maintenance etc. Thanks to our volunteers and stewards, the villagers have learnedit all and look forward to an active schedule each day.

As we begin a new year, we look forward to many more successes in our work day. The villagers will continue to beenthusiastic as they learn new skills and grow to be the people God created them to be. Happy New Year!

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUSThe following donations were received this past month from the Knights of Columbus from their annual Tootsie Roll drive.

$1,450.00 from Rev. Michael McGivney Council #8082, Dyer, IN 46311

$200.00 from Our Lady of Sorrows Council #12149, Valparaiso, IN 46383

In addition, the Knights of Columbus Council #3840 from Cedar Lake hosted an unique production of “A ChristmasCarol” in the style of a 1930’s radio show with half of the proceeds going to Share Foundation. Thank you!

God Bless the Knights for their faithful support of our work!
