Children born in 2012 are eligible to start Junior Kindergarten this coming September. You can begin this process by pre-registering online at www.ucdsb.on.ca, or calling Arklan School directly at 257-8113. Check our Facebook page as we will post important dates!

….our winter weather is fickle, but it’s cold out there!!! Please make sure your children are equipped for the cold weather. We try to spend time outside every day, so dress warmly! Don’t forget hats, mitts, boots and snow-pants every day.

INCLEMENT WEATHER … Reminder

What’s the quickest way to find out if the school buses are cancelled due to inclem-ent weather? Check the Student Transpor-tation of Eastern Ontario website at www.steo.ca! There’s a great feature on the STEO website to relay delays or cancel-lations. The Delay or Cancellation feature can be found on the website’s homepage at www.steo.ca. Updates are posted by 6:15 AM.

You may also check for updates on the Arklan Facebook page. Also, there’s no need to call the school if your child will be absent because their bus is cancelled. BUT, please do contact us if your child is not a bus student, and is staying home due to the inclement weather.

The Upper Canada District School Board recognizes concussions as a serious injury which requires appro-priate follow-up measures to reduce risk of potential additional injury. Concussion awareness, prevention, identification and management are a priority for the Board. For more information, please visit UCDSB.on.ca. The link is also provided on the school Facebook page. We ask that you please notify the school if your child has suffered a concussion at any time, even outside of the school schedule.

ABOUT CONCUSSIONS

Carleton Place Intermediate School is hosting an Open House Night for grade 6 students who will be attending next school year. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, January 20th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, starting in the cafeteria. Stu-dents and parents will have an oppor-tunity to tour the school, find out more about programs, and ask questions.

The Parent Council is a forum for giving feedback from a parental perspective on various elements of our school improvement work. It also provides opportunities to give back by volunteering. The Council will meets a few times per year. We typically meet the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM, and meetings last about an hour. We encourage new parents to come and join us. If you would like to join this years’ council, or

would like to attend a meeting to learn more, the next meeting is February 2, 2016 at 6:30 PM.

Let’s have some fun and break up those winter blues! Thursday, January 29th is “Beach Day at Arklan”. Wear your beach hat, your shorts and your wildest Hawaiian shirt!

Indoor fun is important, too! We are hoping to collect board games that have all their components and are in decent shape. If you are able to help out by donating a board game, it would be greatly appreciated. Unplugged fun can be a great thing!
