The weather was certainly the talking point at the beginning of March. The intense cold, snow and ice kept many anglers at home, but, to their credit, a hardy few didventure out. Many of our local fisheries reported temperatures as low as -11 degrees! As much as I love my fishing, that is certainly above (or below!) my threshold!Hopefully, we will now progress and see some much finer, warmer weather to get Spring rolling!

Our BIG news recently was the announcement of our new sponsor of our Online Catch Reports section. We are absolutely delighted to have Pallatrax working with us and Iam sure it will mean many more readers sending us their catch photos to be in with the chance to win the superb Gripz hooks package. You can send us your reports byemail at [email protected] or via our Facebook page messenger. Always make sure your phone or camera is charged before you venture out!

A new series of articles, The Bait Shed, began last month. Many anglers are becoming interested in creating their own individual baits and we hope that Roy's articles willhelp those wanting to roll their own 'secret' baits! Roy will be passing on his tips each month with his step by step guide to bait making.

We now have a new sponsor of our Sea Reports pages. Medway and Kent Sea Fishing Group are a friendly forum on Facebook where you can chat, post reports and catchphotos and share experiences with like minded local sea anglers. Please take a look at their page and join up. I would like to thank our previous Sea Reports sponsor fortheir valued support and contribution to this section.

By the time this edition is published, we would have enjoyed the Big One Show at Farnborough. Many thanks to everyone for coming to the Freshwater Informer stand andsaying 'hello'! Although the shows are hard work, they are immensely enjoyable and it gives us the opportunity to talk to readers of the magazine. We always appreciateyour feedback as it helps us to shape and fashion the publication. However, from what you tell us, everyone seems happy with the way the magazine has developed andare pleased with the variation and quality of the articles that we feature.

Please remember that in order to keep the magazine FREE to readers, we rely on the revenue from our advertising partners. So, if you want to raise the profile of yourbusiness, why not consider the Freshwater Informer as the vehicle to drive your business forward? We can offer a range of cost effective advertising options and are alwayshappy to receive and discuss your enquiry or come to you personally and have a chat over a cup of tea!

    11lb Mirror - Main Lake - Alastair OBrien 33lb 6oz Mirror - Dove Lake - Ken Davies

We are now well into Spring and it will be Summer before we know it... not that it feels that wayjust yet! We have been closed for almost 2 weeks due to the snow and the amount of time it tookfor the ice covering the lakes to thaw, meaning there arent many catches to report this month. With our lakes slowly but surely now getting back to normal; the reappearance of a more attractivesurrounding has started to grace us, the daffodils have started to make an appearance, our plantlife is springing back to life and our collection of exotic wildfowl have begun pairing off ready fornesting, Hawkhurst Fish Farm is looking forward to seeing what the months ahead can produce. The fish are starting to show now so it shouldnt be too long before many larger fish start gracingthe banks!MAIN LAKE: The catfish have been fairly quiet this month but having said that, Jay Fennmanaged to net a 58lb Catfish! Ashley Smith banked a lovely 26lb 8oz common using a solidPVA bag with Krill white pop up. Alastair OBrien managed to save himself a blank on a quickday ticket by netting a lovely looking 11lb mirror. He was made up with it considering how hardthe fishing has been recently! During our closed period in the colder weather we re-vamped theswims by the bridge - photos can be seen on our facebook page. SPECIMEN LAKE: Gary Taylor did extremely well netting a trio of carp over 30lb. He was onlyfishing a day session but its one of the best 12 hours weve seen up on Specimen Lake for awhile! We have welcomed a few new members on to our bank recently and have been seeinglots of day ticket sessions going well while they figure out the lake. We are pleased to say that thewaiting time has now dropped to just under a year, so we recommend putting in applications nowto get on the lake for Summer 2019! Application Forms can be downloaded from our website orcollected from our Main Office. During the cold period when the lake was closed, we used thetime to widen the road on Specimen Lake by the first two swims. It has created much more roomfor anglers setting up bivvys on these swims and for vehicles to drive past!DOVE LAKE: has enticed a few anglers over in recent weeks and has slowly started to produce. There are some stunning good sized carp in this lake which can often be seen cruising aroundthe surface when the water is at its clearest. Just remember Dove Lake requires a stealthyapproach at this time so your presence is not detected! Ken Davies managed to land a 33lb 6ozmirror using Cell boilies with matching pop up. Kevin Algate enjoyed a day session in which hemanged to net a brace of 25lb carp - one mirror and one common!QUARRY LAKE: Miller Craven is a young angler who has really impressed us with his excellentsessions on Quarry Lake as well as his fish handling skills. He has caught several carp and catfishand we are really looking forward to seeing how he does when he goes for a special birthdaysession on Main Lake! Mark Webb had 5 carp out - only smaller ones but he was just happy tobe catching. Hes due for another session next week so well wish you luck for then Mark!
