Letter from the President
Happy New Year! I hope all of you enjoyed the Christmas party as much as I did. I think it is one of the highlights of the year. The food fun and festivities were excellent. I would like to thank all the members that help to make this event so special.
As we head into the spring we look forward to the upcoming Wild Rose Antique Show. I have been informed by Bernie that we are losing 30 participants due to age and we all regrettably saw this coming. That being said, as we look to the future we need to invite other collectors and specialty collectors to join our organization. This perhaps could be service companies that deal with antiques, or other like-minded collector clubs that maybe we can join forces with. For instance, the Coin, Stamp, train, doll, comic, military, or collector clubs. Also, if any of you have friends in businesses that you think may benefit from being in our show, please reach out to them and let me know and I will personally invite them. I look forward to seeing you all at the January meeting.
Your President

Show & Tell, November 25th Meeting
Tabletop Musical Ceramic Tree
This is a ceramic Christmas tree; I’m guessing it’s from about 1970. It’s lit up basically on the same principle as the lite-bright toys – the lights are butterflies and birds and other things but it’s lit up with 1 lightbulb from the inside and as a bonus, there’s a cylinder music box inside that plays Christmas music. David
1950 Visions of St. Nick in Action 3D Pop-up Book
This is a book that has been in my family since the early 50s. It’s called Visions of Saint Nick in Action. It is a carousel book,
forming five pop-up scenes when fully opened with the front and back covers touching. It shows Santa’s Castle at the North Pole, Santa’s Workshop, St. Nick and His Reindeer, St. Nick’s Visit, and Tired Santa Back Home. I have the original box cover. Brian
Antique Snow Globe with US patent #s, Atlas Crystal Works
I don’t know anything about snow globes and I didn’t pick this up; it picked me up. It was in an auction lot that I bought. I think it’s old. It looks like a sandstorm, rather than snow. It’s difficult to read the bottom but looks like patent numbers. Susanne
Musical ceramic Christmas Ferris Wheel It plays Oh Christmas Tree .
Anneke
Barbie dolls dressed for Christmas
I decorate my mantel so I just brought my vintage dolls that I’ve been decorating my mantel with. This is a Misty (on the left), and another Misty from the Tammy line from Ideal and a bubble-cut Barbie with a red coat (her vinyl face is going dark; because of age or lack of humidity). Vicki
2 sports rings – a 2012 LA Kings and a 1974 Philadelphia Flyers ring. a visitor
Jan 1959 MAD magazine
I’m a MAD magazine collector. This one’s from 1959 – 60 years old. This one is unique because on the back side - has his girlfriend at the time. I think she was only in 2 issues . Alan

Bernie & I went into The Blue Jar Antique Mall on Friday so he could drop off posters. I found some Snow Babies that I collect. I bought 6 miniature Snow Babies. They’re very heavy so I’m not sure if they’re cast iron. Kim
Sylvia says these are from the 1900s, made in Germany and they are cast iron.
1940’s War-time Xmas balls made by Corning, USA. Clear glass balls were decorated with pastel stripes because of shortage of metallic oxide pigment.
I do collect some Christmas. I collect Corning Christmas bulbs. I have 2 boxes of clear with stripes and 1 box of pink & yellow. Green & pink, blue & pink, Made in the USA wartime. A couple of different sizes – have one that’s yellow, green, and pink, which is very uncommon. Kim
50-year blue & gold Winnipeg Blue Bomber record book– a record from the start of the team (original price $3.99); got it at a show in Calgary a couple of months ago. My first Grey Cup was here in 1984 (Hamilton & Winnipeg score: 47 -17) and this was my ticket and the price in 1984 was $40. My third collectible is a 1959 Grey Cup souvenir program (Winnipeg vs Hamilton) Winnipeg won 21 to 7. I didn’t go to this one as I was only 5 years old! Bernie
2010 Grey Cup program & tickets
I’ve got some recent stuff but it really shows the difference in price. This is from the 98th Grey Cup in Edmonton in 2010. The tickets at that time were $262 and that was on the 45-yard line, row 10. This is the Program – they’vechanged a little bit over the years. Of course, my hat is from the 97 Grey Cup. BC won that year.
Mike
My wife has over 300 different snow globes. This one is very unique, I thought. It’s a game; there is a ring inside that you try to flip around and catch it on his nose. My son has been trying for about 25 years to do so.
Indiana Jones Hallmark ornament I also collect Indiana Jones stuff . This is a Hallmark Indiana Jones Keepsake ornament and it also plays music from the show. Year: 2000. Mike
Musical, lighted Christmas book

which I won at last year’s Silent Auction. I love it. Karen Osatchuk
I collect postcards – one is 100 years old and the other 103 years old – one Christmas and one January 1st. Karen Osatchuk
See cover photo.
I don’t think I collect Santa Claus – when I was cleaning out my mother’s stuff in 2000, I took this little roly-poly. I looked him up – he’s actually a pretty good piece – made in Germany and worth about $40.
Santa pins and tree-top angel
When I went through my pins, I have a few. The 1st one, I painted about 35 years ago with a
neighbor and the others I’ve just picked up over the years.
This my angel (top of photo) that I bought in December 1963, the first Christmas we were married. It was on the top of the tree and it will go up this year again. Her skirt isn’t too bad but her wings are starting to disintegrate. I’m hoping she’ll last for 60 years.
Diane
Winnipeg Blue Bomber programs 1971 – 1981.
Since the Grey Cup was on Sunday, I’ve brought a number of football programs and then I got upstaged by Bernie. I’ve got Winnipeg programs from 1971 to 1981. I’ve got a 2002 Grey Cup program; a Grey Cup Guide from Saskatchewan when they held the Grey Cup in 1995, Edmonton Eskimos button & ribbon from 1975, Edmonton Grey Cup button, 1984, a toque from last year’s Grey Cup, and a couple of Hamilton Tigercat programs 1971 and 1980. In 1978 Edmonton won the Grey Cup and they put out a coin – it’s not currency – basically a token. Jim
Edmonton Eskimo button & ribbon from 1975 Grey Cup.
Christmas cards from our friends, the politicians Marvin
One from Diefenbaker when he was in the Opposition.
Stephen Harper says, “Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, and Seasons Greetings”.
From alderman, Brian Mason - all he says is ”Seasons Greetings”.
Bennet, from BC “ Wishing you Merry Christmas and happiness throughout the coming year”.
I’ve got quite a few Christmas things. I just realized that a box that I thought was the original box for one of the ornaments is in fact a Christmas box for oranges and it was sent by mail in 1959 from California.

I have some figural Christmas light bulbs – 1950s, but figural light bulbs were around from the 1920s on. These have never been plugged in but I learned from Floyd Pester that you use a dimmer switch and plug them into lowered power so that you don’t blow them out. Bill
Little ornaments with candies in them – probably late 50s. In original box.
I have some other ornaments; they’re glass; very delicate and
they’re made by Altaglass in Medicine Hat – made out of glass tubing. Bill
Then I have – not exactly cards but they’re 3-dimensional from the 1900s; probably made in Germany - they actually belonged to my grandmother. One is an early Santa Claus and the other is a Nativity scene and they’re embossed cardboard . Bill
1975 Noma Guardian Angel Fire Alert
The idea was that if this tree-topper got hot, presumably because the Christmas tree was on fire, the alarm would sound. Marj
Concordia Christmas Manger Set No. 743 litho on cardboard nativity scene
Tiny hand-painted nativity scene made in British Hong Kong and miniature book The Night Before Christmas. Marj
Nutcrackers are famous because of the Nutcracker ballet; score by Tchaikovsky . The very first time I saw a production of The Nutcracker was in Vancouver by the Pacific Northwest Ballet, and it had the most amazing sets. I’ve seen it 3 times in my lifetime. Clinton

In Memoriam:
On behalf of the club membership, we wish to express our sincere sympathy to
The family and friends of Doris Glenroy Manners (nee Tant). Doris passed away December 18, 2019 in Edmonton, Alberta at 102 years of age.
Doris was born on March 2, 1917 in Brownville Junction, Maine, USA and came to Canada at 3 months old. Over the years, she resided in Hanna, Stony Plain, Sherwood Park, Islay, and Edmonton, Alberta and Creston, B.C.
During her life, Doris worked at a beauty salon, on a farm, and at Nellie’s Southern Aire (she knew the secret recipe for Nellie’s chicken, but was sworn to secrecy).
A lifelong fan of rail travel and horseback riding, Doris was an avid knitter and reader of mysteries. Her vast teddy bear collection included rare and antique items which appeared in museums and the press. She will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, her independent spirit and feisty personality.
Doris was a WRAC member from 1983 to 1988. Her late partner, Larry Payne, was WRAC president for 1987 – 1988. Thanks to Nancy Ross for this notification.
The family and friends of Edna Paterson. Edna passed away on November 11, 2019 at 79 years of age. She was born in Anselmo, Alberta. She spent all of her adult life in Edmonton and she and her late husband, Harry traveled the world showing or judging at dog shows. She worked at Eaton’s Contract Sales until retirement in 1982.
Edna and her granddaughter, Emma Paterson joined Wild Rose Antique Collectors in 2015 and attended many meetings. She collected dolls, china, anything dog-related, coins, jewelry, furniture and more.
