    Fr. Gary writes

The first month of the new year is flying by, and my gut feeling is that

this new year will be as challenging as the last. We give thanks the

vaccine has been rolled out and that Pope Francis has encouraged

everyone to receive it. By the time you read this, he would have

been vaccinated. The process of getting the population of Florida

vaccinated seems to be somewhat haphazard.

I hope this process can be better organized as soon as possible. I

realize it may be a logistical nightmare for those responsible, but

other countries seem to be doing a better job. I don’t think our

political turmoil, the division and mistrust which still besets our

nation, is helping. We have to find a way of moving past the turmoil

in order to recover our heart and soul. Please don’t add fuel to the

fire on social media, choose your words carefully, in fact don’t write

(or respond to) political statements that will inflame others, just share

the Gospel message of Jesus, we all need to hear it. We should be

the most positive people in the world.

We all continue to keep the parish alive and active, thank you for

your commitment and loving generosity. We continue to change lives

through Christ! We have had to cancel parish and school social

events. I am hoping that by May we can socially celebrate again,

though nothing is certain. Patience is the key word. We continue to

pray for all those who are affected by the coronavirus. I was talking

to a parishioner who has lost ten family members to COVID. And no,

most of them did not have underlying causes. We continue to pray

for all those who are so selflessly caring for the sick. This has been

an exhausting time for all who are ministering to the sick. We pray

for all our medical personnel and first responders. We take none of

    them for granted.

    Next Sunday, January 31

    st

, we begin Catholic Schools Week. I

would like to pay tribute not only to our Principal, Bobby Yevich, and

outstanding faculty and staff, but also the children and young people

of our school who have embraced the challenges of this

unprecedented year with such grace and favor, with little or no

complaining. Our children wear their masks, remain in their grade

‘bubbles,’ are quick to sanitize and respect each other’s space. It has

been our priority to continue to give them a loving and Christ

centered environment in which to grow and learn. We are blessed to

have such a wonderful parish school, with very supportive parents.

While Catholic Schools Week will be more socially subdued, we will

still celebrate, there is much to thank God for!

Yes, the mission of Christ’s Church continues across the five

counties of our Diocese, and today we begin the 2021 Annual

Pastoral Appeal: ‘Hope In The Lord.’ We have met our required

financial goal each year, thanks to you! Our required goal in 2021 is

$237,706! Let’s rise to the challenge and continue the essential

mission of Christ’s Church by bringing hope to the poorest of the

poor in our society, training our future priests and educating our

    children in the faith!

The Walking with Purpose faith sharing group invites all the

women of our parish (and friends) to join us for the second half of

our journey through the Gospel of John. There is always a seat at

our table or Zoom room, so please do not worry if you haven't

participated before. God meets each of us where we are. We have

just completed Lesson 11, and will continue with the second

part of the study, on Thursday, Jan 28. During the next 10

weeks, we hope you will join us as we learn more about Jesus as

the Resurrection, the King, the Servant, the True Vine, the

Intercessor, the Truth, the Redeemer, and the Restorer. Masks

and social distancing protocols are required for the inperson

meeting. The book is available through the Walking with Purpose

    ENCOURAGE . ENRICH . EMPOWER

    Wow

it really is great to be in EC3! Our Early childhood threeyear old

class has been having a blast this school year. Though things look

a little different “socially” in our class room, we are finding new and creative ways to

learn, and most importantly have fun while we are doing it. We have been very

busy learning our days of the week, the months of the year, and discovering all the

wonderful things about the seasons we have experienced so far. In Language Arts

we have been learning our alphabet by having a “Letter of the Week.” This is

especially exciting for the children as they get to bring in a show and tell item

centered around the letter. They have such a wonderful time sharing all of the cool

stuff with their classmates. In Mathematics we have been learning how to compare

and contrast certain items, and even how to do a Venn Diagram! In Science we

have fun learning about our environment by exploring outside and talking about the

weather. One of our favorite activities is experimenting with different items to see

whether it “sinks or floats!” We have so much fun when our “Specials” come to visit

us during the week. We love trying out new instruments in Music, creating amazing

masterpieces in Art, getting our exercise in at P.E. and even learning how to count

in Spanish. Of course, story time is always a favorite too. EC3 Friends are very

excited about all the fun and adventurous learning we are going to encounter

throughout the remainder of the school year. We just LOVE being “Little Romans.”

    STEWARDSHIP: TIME, TALENT, TREASURE

    STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

    THE RAW MATERIAL

Someone has suggested that if Jesus were to

send his twelve disciples for psychological

testing today he might receive this reply:

“Thank you for submitting the résumés of the

twelve men you have picked for managerial

positions in your new organization. All of them

have taken our complete battery of tests. In

    addition, we arranged personality interviews

for each of your candidates with our psycholo-

gists and vocational aptitude consultants. It is

the opinion of our staff that most of your

nominees are lacking in the background,

education, and skills necessary for the

success of your enterprise. None of them

shows an understanding of the team concept.

Simon Peter is impulsive and would benefit

    from angermanagement counseling. Andrew

has no measureable leadership qualities. The

two brothers, James and John, place personal

    ambition above company loyalty. Thomas

shows a skeptical attitude that would tend to

undermine morale. In his previous business,

Matthew was blacklisted by the Jerusalem

Better Business Bureau. James, the son of

    Alphaeus, and Thaddeus definitely have

radical political leanings, and appear to have

    unstable temperaments. One of the

candidates, however, shows real potential. He

is a man of ability and resourcefulness,

possesses excellent social skills, and has

contacts in high places. He is highly motivated, ambitious, and

responsible. We recommend Judas Iscariot as your comptroller and

righthand man.” Today Jesus calls us. Like Peter, we lack faith.

Like Andrew, we have much to learn. Like James and John, we are

selfish. Like Matthew, we have a past. Like Thomas, we sometimes

doubt. If Jesus could use them, he can certainly use us. With God’s

help, we too can grow from strength to strength and accomplish

great things for God and the Kingdom. The call to follow Jesus is

    urgent. Answer now.

    Living Stewardship Now

God does not demand moral perfection before you can be of worthy

service. God asks for a loving heart and a willingness to stick with

    your commitment.

    1. Questions play an important role in our

spiritual journey. If you could ask God for

one thing right now, what would it be?

    2.

    3. How do your best days start? What are the

habits you have created that if you don’t do,

the day just doesn’t go as smoothly?

(Maybe it’s a run, prayer, a morning cup of

    coffee).

    4. If you had to pick three words to

describe God in this moment what would

they be? This was a discussion question
