New Testament House

Old Testament —The story of God’s people (the nation of Israel ) up until the time of Christ.

New Testament —The story of Jesus and God’s people (the Church ) since the time of Christ.

The Big Picture of the Bible

The Old Testament has 3 major types of books:

1. History (First 5 books are the Pentatuch or Torah)

2. Poetry 3. Prophecy (Major Prophets and Minor

Prophets)

The Old Testament Books

Torah

Of the 17 historical books, 11 are “primary” in the sense that they advance the storyline, and 6 are “secondary” (they amplify and supplement the primary books).

The latter are Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Ruth, 1 & 2 Chronicles, and Esther.

The OT Historical Books

The New Testament has 3 major types of books:

1. Historical Books (the 4 Gospels and Acts) New Testament —The story of Jesus and God’s people (the Church ) since the time of Christ

2. Letters written by the Apostle Paul (sometimes called Pauline Epistles). Some of Paul’s letters are written to entire churches and some are to individuals leaders

3. Letters written by other NT authors (sometimes called General Epistles)
