We know you are talented and gifted in customer service and mountain resort operations, but do any of you have ideas about becoming the next big business in our industry? What solutions are buzzing round your mind? If the entrepreneur in you is ready to break out, JHMR is there to support you.

We are offering a $500 scholarship to one member of JHMR Winter 2014/15 staff for the Start Up Institute April 2015 session*. What’s more if your business idea is directly related to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and provides improved customer service to our guests we will double this scholarship to $1000.

*The $500 scholarship will be in the form of a reimbursement after successful completion of the program and if more than one JHMR staff member applies it will be given to the applicant who was accepted onto the April 2015 course first. The additional $500 is available at the discretion of JHMR if the business idea and its implementation is seen to benefit the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort within one year of start up.

Important MessagesFT

Important MessagesFTJHMR is proposing the following projects for construction over the next three years pending forest service approval. A very brief description of each improvement is given below.

Snow-making system expansion:It is planned to expand the current snow-making system coverage area from 222 acres to 248 acres (a 12% increase).

GazEx® system expansion:With the installation of the Teton lift (previously called Crags), JHMR plans to expand its GazEx® system into the Crags area of the resort above the top terminal of both the Teton and Casper lifts

Hiking/Biking trail network expansion:We are planning to construct an additional 13.6 miles of hiking/biking trails to the existing trail network. 7.9 miles of trails are designed to provide downhill mountain biking from the Casper and Teewinot chair lifts along with trails accessed by the planned Sweetwater gondola. The remaining 5.7 miles are proposed as hiking trails.

Via Ferrata installation:JHMR proposes to install several Via Ferratas on the mountain. A Via Ferrata (Italian for iron road) is a protected climbing route commonly found in the mountains of Europe. The essence of a modern Via Ferrata is a steel cable which runs along a climbing route and is periodically attached to the rock which is used as a safety line. It is common to also have climbing aids such as iron rungs, pegs or even ladders installed along such routes.

JHMR is proposing to install several Via Ferratas in three locations. Several would be in the the Casper Bowl area and the others would be on the cliff bands located below Tram tower #4 and #5. Zip-line reconfiguration:JHMR is proposing to install a zip-line that would start near the new mid-station of the Sweetwater gondola and end at a landing tower adjacent to the existing ropes course. If you have and questions about these proposed improvements, please see your department managers for more information.

JHMR Provides Community Match for GTNP Grooming

We are getting close to mid – winter and it is time to remind employees of the great opportunity to ski tour in Grand Teton National Park. This is also a great activity for our guests as they ask us what to do on their day off the hill.

The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort along with Skinny Skis has provided match grants for community members donating to grooming of the Grand Teton National Park, inner park road. The Inner Park Road - from Taggart to Signal - is now into its new Winter 2014-15 grooming schedule - Mondays and Fridays (weather permitting).

Further information regarding the GTNP grooming as well as other groomed trails in the region for Nordic skiing and fat bikes can be found at the JH-Teton Nordic Alliance website www.jhnordic .com

CONGRATULATIONS!Please help me congratulate our new Ambassador Club members for December in recogni-

tion of their demonstration of and commitment to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s values – Always an Ambassador, Be Safe, Be Green, and Have Fun!

AMBASSADOR CLUBFT“Always An Ambassador”

What does being an ambassador mean to you? One of the best ways to be an excellent ambas-sador is to be an engaged employee. Engagement is a combination of the way people think, feel, and act. Engaged employees are always looking for ways to increase a guests overall experience. Here are some examples of guests who were wowed by JHMR’s Ambassadors:

“Every one of the staff from all areas of the resort were courteous, helpful, knowledgeable and customer-focused. I needed help with getting boots on and off and someone was always there to assist. The guys operating the lifts always had a smile on their faces and made me feel welcome!”“All the staff were incredibly polite and helpful and went the extra mile to make our stay com-fortable and fun. We were very impressed.”

“Everyone we dealt with was very professional, helpful and courteous.”

“I am always amazed at how many employees you have and every one of them seems to love what they are doing. Great customer service!”“The members in the rental shop were excellent! They were professional, patient, and very friendly. The members in the lift pass shack were also! Our guide John Davis was incredible too!”

“The ticketing staff were great, as were the lift operators.”

Keep up the great work! It’s important to remember just how big an impact guest service can have on our guests. As great as our mountain is most people’s lasting memories come from the amazing service provided by all of you!

Where are you from? Prospect, KYHow long have you worked for JHMR? This would be my 8th winterFavorite thing about your job? Working with a group of people who make it fun to come to work every day. I also get a pretty good education every day about eating the right amount of protein and proper lifting tech-nique. I’m being heavily recruited for a team.Favorite run at JHMR? Who doesn’t love EDI? But also the Moran Woods and BivouacMost memorable moment at JHMR? When I learned we have a super exclusive Electronic Music Club called Klüb EricH in our office whose slogan is “Welcome to Klüb EricH, we’re closed.” December 14, 2015, I came into work and Klüb Erich was actually open and Tim McNulty was the only patron. It was the best day. Start up business tycoon and local bachelor Eric Donley (owner/operator of Klüb EricH) can be found in the Klüb most days, but it’s usually closed. What would you be doing if you weren’t working at JHMR? Maybe a space lawyer. It’s like a maritime lawyer but instead of helping catch crooks at sea, I would catch them in outer space. Also maybe a phone psychic. If there was a movie made about MSS Sales what would it be titled, and who would play you? The movie would be called “Reluctant Sliders.” It would be about a group of people working together for 4 months in an 80 degree room. They are constantly trying to convince other people who have never seen snow before that they should take skiing or snowboarding lessons. It would be feel good family movie rated G. I would be played by American cinematic legend of both the small and big screen, Kristen Wiig. What is in your pocket? Anything worth carrying with you should be carried in your hands.

Tristan Jackson: Assistant Sales Manager

Where are you from? Randolph VT How long have you worked for JHMR? This makes winter number 7Favorite thing about your job? Working in the sales office is a… special experience. Being able to work with people that try to incorporate as much fun into the normal daily tasks keeps the day lighthearted. Sure you can just answer voicemails but can you answer voicemails while avoiding a dodge ball being tossed across the room, as you try to break the office paddle ball record? (It’s 478 consecutive hits, good luck) Had a long day? Go into the back office and unwind to the mellow beats of Klüb EricH. Need some help with your form at the gym? Come talk to any of the founding members of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Mountain Sports School Sales Body Building Team or the JHMRMSSSBBT for short. Favorite run at JHMR? YesMost memorable moment at JHMR? Filling my boss’s office with 2500 balloons was pretty fun. What would you be doing if you weren’t working at JHMR? Pursuing my career as a professional bodybuilder. Andrew Byron would be my coach. If there was a movie made about Mountain Sports School Sales what would it be titled, and who would play you? It would titled The Curious Case of Olaf Svertski. One man’s quest to ski as many vertical feet as he can, as he slowly reverts back to a beginner skier. He would be played by Nicolas Cage. What is in your pocket? Ain’t got time for pockets.

FTMembers of the Jackson Hole skiing and paragliding communities gathered this weekend to remember a man who flew high and hugged hard.Billy Baker, 35, died of severe head trauma after a paragliding crash in Tensleep Bowl at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on Jan. 21.He died Thursday night after being flown to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City.Over the weekend the resort played host to a service in which his friends, family and co-workers honored his legacy of living large, skiing from the top of the Bridger Gondola to the top of Casper lift, where resort chaplain Ben Pascal held a service that ended in a chorus of “We Are the Champi-ons.”“Billy took life by the horns, from skiing to paragliding, dirt biking to scuba diving,” said friend and Mountain Sports School colleague Augusta Friend-smith. “I can honestly say that I want to be Billy Baker when I grow up.”Baker, a Michigan native, spent the past seven years working at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s Kids Ranch, Jackson Hole Paragliding and Freder-ick’s Landscaping after a six-year stint in the U.S. Air Force.Danielle Petriccione, youth alpine senior supervisor at the Kids Ranch, re-membered the day Baker’s friend Ryan Haight introduced her to “big, burly” Baker at a job fair as a lesson in the occasional wrongness of first impressions.“I thought, ‘This guy just got out of the Air Force and wants to work here, teaching young kids how to ski?’” she wrote in an email Tuesday. “I couldn’t have been more wrong in my impression of him. He was so good at his job.”

In his ski instructing work Baker was a man who bonded with the small children he worked with, from a young man who just lost his father to a local boy named Carson who skied with him over the 2014 holidays.“Carson told his mom later that night that he and Billy were best friends and he loved Billy so much,” Petriccione said. “I could go on for days about this amazing guy — I’m sure the overall theme you’ll hear from people is his unforgettable hearty laugh and gigan-tic smile he’d have spread across his face every day.”She was not wrong.Friends did indeed remember Baker’s laugh and smile, and added in his booming voice, his wholehearted hugs, his fearless enthusiasm for life and his willingness to use his physi-cal strength to help others.“He was the type of person that would help anyone at the drop of a hat,” said Nick Cum-mings, a friend and co-worker of Baker’s at the mountain and in landscaping. “Especially

the random person stuck or broke down. Billy lived more in his 35 years than most do in two or three lifetimes. He was a huge guy all the way around.”Scott Harris, the owner of Jackson Hole Paragliding, also noted Baker’s loyalty and said he had friends wherever he went.“He was very positive, quiet, reserved, but when you got to know him he was a friend forever,” Harris said. “He was a great guy who was liked by everyone.”Along with Baker’s time in the Air Force his love of paragliding kept him sky high during his free time.Of the dozens of tributes left on his Facebook wall in the wake of his death, several referenced flight.“Keep flying,” said one.“Fly free,” said another.
