Dear IHM parents
We hope everyone had a great snow day yesterday! On Wednesday of this week, we had to make the switch to
NTI for all of our junior high, due to a staffing shortage and multiple close contact exposures of students, due to
sports and extra-curricular activities. Therefore, we need to reinforce the importance for your partnership in
following COVID guidelines when participating in extracurricular activities. Also, if anyone in your family is
experiencing COVID symptoms, or are awaiting test results, siblings need to stay home until test results are
received and/or siblings are symptom free. Again, we ask that if anyone in your family was COVID positive
over the Christmas break and has not yet reported to us, please contact Nurse Emily to do so. We know that
everyone wants to return to a normal pre-COVID life! In order to get there, we must stay vigilant in our efforts
to keep everyone safe and healthy! Let us lean on our faith during these challenging times and trust that God is in
control!
Next week is Catholic Schools Week and our CSW committee has a week full of fun activities planned to help us
celebrate! Please refer to your grade level Newsletters and our IHM Facebook page to prepare for the next day.
What a blessing Catholic Schools are as extensions of our families!
Happy Catholic Schools Week! Thank you for your valuable partnership!
God Bless,
Mrs. Marco and Mrs. Harper

Counselor’s Corner: Stress and Children Ann Williams [email protected]
We’re currently living in stressful times for parenting. Between the pandemic, politics, work changes, and
so forth, it’s no surprise that many families are experiencing higher than normal levels of stress in their
own households.
Unfortunately, that stress often trickles down to the children—many of whom are already experiencing
additional stressors of their own. Stressed children may exhibit difficult behaviors which often leads to
more stress for the broader family. If not addressed, this cycle of stress can spiral out of control and lead
to a very unhealthy and unhappy family life. So, what can parents do to stop the stress cycle? Here are
some tips:
Check in daily with your own stress levels. Being aware of your stress levels in any given day can
help you to manage stress more successfully.
Don’t be afraid to take whatever you can off your plate.
Practice deep breathing—even when you don’t feel stressed. It will help later when you need it!
Also, teach deep breathing techniques to your children.
Exercise daily, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. A quick search on the web will provide you with
plenty of quick workouts that can help you to cope better with stress.
Carve out a time for relaxation. Whether it’s praying, a bubble bath, taking a walk, reading a book,
dancing, or playing a fun game, or coloring with your children, it’s important to find some
activities to destress.
Talk to your children about their stress levels.
Encourage your children to exercise and help them to find healthy ways to cope with their stress.
Check your mindset. If you feel like everything is awful, it will feel awful. Watch your internal
words and challenge negative thoughts with more positive ones, such as, “Things are hard now,
but I can do hard things.”
Another great idea is to have a family meeting to discuss how to tackle stress in your family. You might
be surprised at the ideas family members come up with. Create a plan on how your family will cope with
stress and put it into effect. These are challenging times, but also times of opportunity. Taking the
opportunity to help your child learn healthy and effective coping skills now will help them the rest of their
lives.
Grow through what you go through!

2020/2021 Yearbook I am officially looking for photos for the yearbook. This past year has been difficult to say the least, but life goes on and I am sure your children are doing things that are photo worthy. https://ihmkyyearbook20202021.shutterfly.com/ This is the new Shutterfly Share Site for the Yearbook. You need to have a Shutterfly account and request access to be able to submit photos for the yearbook. (For privacy I needed to create a new site for each year.) Please consider submitting photos for the yearbook. Be creative and be sure to label the photo with a class and grade. I am currently looking for SPORTS pictures of your IHM student. Since IHM is currently not having sports, I still want to capture them in action for the yearbook. If they are doing art work or making robots, I will take those as well. If you would like to purchase a yearbook for 2020/2021 go to the link below and enter the ID Code 2046421 : https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/Order/SelectJob Sherry Farwick [email protected] 859-468-2873
