A special way to remember a loved one is to donate the month-

ly Altar Bread and/or Wine in honor of their memory. You may

also choose to remember a loved one by donating a weekly

Sanctuary Lamp in either the Church or the Chapel. Sanctuary

Lamps burn day and night to illuminate the Blessed Sacrament,

serve as an emblem of Christ's abiding love, and as a reminder

to the faithful to respond with loving adoration in return.

The Altar Bread for February is donated in loving memory

of Jose Ignacio Celis (The Chan Family)

The Altar Wine for February is donated in loving memory

of Jose Ignacio Celis (The Chan Family)

The Sanctuary Lamp in the Church this week is in memory

of Jose Renato Abalon (the Holy Rosary Parishioners).

Please Remember in Your Prayers

A Message From Father Jose

Hoping and praying that you have a nice weekend. This week I

would like to share with you the status and the history of our

parish with regard to the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal, which

is again coming soon. Last year our parish was the first one to

complete the goal the Archdiocese gives to every parish. The

completion of this goal is thanks to our parish’s regular contrib-

utors and, most especially, one family that generously contrib-

uted a big amount as a way to share their time, talent and treas-

ure that comes from God.

Last year, we had 33 donors or contributors and one of them

almost completed our parish goal of $15,820.00. To date we

have a surplus of more than 7K that was returned to our parish.

Thanks to all our generous contributors! I would like to en-

courage everyone to be a part of this parish program and do not

forget God always repay a hundred fold for those who diligent-

ly and generously work in his vineyard. God Bless ….Fr Jose

False Prophets, True Prophets

In Deuteronomy today we hear that God’s very words will

fill the mouth of a true prophet, but a false prophet will, in a

manner of speaking, put mere mortal words into God’s mouth.

In Mark’s Gospel, we see Jesus teaching and healing as a true

prophet, one filled with the authority of God’s own voice, the

Holy One of God.

The whole history of our church is filled with both true and

false prophets. But in today’s Gospel we learn that Jesus’ fame

spread because he taught with authority; he wasn’t an authority

because he was popular or famous. We also learn from him, in

his desert temptation confrontations with Satan, that anyone can

quote scripture, even against God’s purposes. And today we

hear that his authority was not like that of the scribes, who held

the official positions of religious authority in his day. Our work

is to do our best to discern the true prophets in our midst, and to

be true prophets as well. The psalmist tells us how to do this: by

not hardening our hearts when God speaks. If we truly listen to

God, it will be God’s very words filling our mouths.

Feast of Faith

I Confess

One form of the penitential rite at the beginning of Mass is

the traditional Confiteor, or “I confess,” a prayer that was for-

merly prayed by the priest alone at the foot of the altar, but

which is now prayed by the entire assembly. The Confiteor is at

once personal—“I confess”—and communal, prayed aloud,

together. We recognize that sin does not just separate us from

God; sin comes between us and others, isolating us. We

acknowledge that sin has many dimensions, individual and

communal: sins of thought, sins of speech, sins of action, sins of

omission. Sin is not something that happens to us; sin is some-

thing we do. In the Confiteor, we take responsibility for our

own actions.

The repeated insistence on our “fault,” with the ritual ges-

ture of striking the breast, an ancient sign of penitence, is not

meant to lower our self-esteem. Rather, it acknowledges our

human instinct to transfer the blame whenever we can (“The

devil made me do it!”). This prayer stops us short. We take re-

sponsibility for ourselves, our actions, our failure to act. Then

we cry out to God in those ancient words, Kyrie, eleison—Lord,

have mercy. For the sinner who repents, there is mercy. This

truth is at the heart of our faith, and it is where the Mass, our

feast of faith, begins.

Saint Agatha (died 251): February 5

“Of noble birth and great beauty,” so the ancient ac-

counts describe Saint Agatha, martyred during an early perse-

cution for refusing a powerful

Roman’s offer of marriage, since

she had consecrated her virgini-

ty to Christ.

An early preacher,

Saint Methodius, reflects in-

stead on her name, noting that,

in Greek, Agatha means

“good,” goodness being some-

thing we can all strive for, nobly

born or common, blessed with

beauty—or not! So brutal the

tortures that violated her youth-

ful innocence, Agatha, like Ag-

nes and several other women

martyrs, was honored from

time immemorial by having her

name inscribed in the Roman

Canon (Eucharistic Prayer I).

Long invoked as pro-

tector against earthquakes—

Mount Etna erupted as she was being tortured—recent atten-

tion has focused on the particularly cruel torture decreed for

Agatha, the cutting off of her breasts. This has inspired cancer

survivors to promote Saint Agatha as patron and intercessor for

women courageously facing breast cancer, for their families

and the multitude of supporters who participate in fund-raising

marches and races, and, of course, for the dedicated researchers

who seek a cure.

Current Holy Rosary Fundraiser Proceeds: The current pro-

ceeds from our ongoing fundraising efforts for a church cooling

system are as follows: A/C Fundraising (ongoing): $26,127.50;

Four bake sales: $989; Tricky Tray (12/8/19): $1,470.

Prayers to Saint Agatha

The patron Saint of breast cancer patients

St. Agatha, woman of valor, from your own

suffering we have been moved to ask your prayers for those of

us who suffer from breast cancer.

We place (person’s name) before you, and ask you to intercede on

their behalf.

From where you stand in the health of life eternal, all wounds

healed, and all tears wiped away, pray for (prayer intention),

and all of us.

Pray God will give us His holy benediction of health and heal-

ing. And, we remember you were a victim of torture and that

you learned, first hand, of human cruelty and inhumanity.

We ask you to pray for our entire world. Ask God to enlighten

us with a “genius for peace and understanding.”

Ask Him to send us His Spirit of Serenity, and ask Him to help

us share that peace with all we meet.

From what you learned from your own path of pain, ask God to

give us the Grace we need to remain holy in difficulties,

not allowing our anger or our bitterness to overtake us.

Pray that we will be more peaceful and more charitable. And

from your holy pace in our mystical body, the Church, pray

that we, in our place and time will, together, create a world of

justice and peace. Amen.

*****************

Lord God, You showered heavenly gifts on the virgin Agatha.

Hear the prayers of those who recall her devoted life and who

ask her to intercede for them in their necessity. (petition).

Help us imitate her virtues during our earthly life and enjoy

eternal happiness with her in heaven. Amen.

*****************

O Heavenly Father, who raised Agatha to the dignity of Saint-

hood, we implore Your Divine Majesty by her intercession to

give us health of mind, body and soul. Free us from all those

things which hold us bound to this earth, and let our spirit, like

hers, rise to your heavenly courts. Amen.

*****************

Saint Agatha, you suffered sexual assault and indignity because

of your faith and purity. Help heal all those who are survivors

of sexual assault and protect those women who are in danger.

Amen.

Take the Love of God with You as You Go…...
