( These are items that need to be purchased by the individuals. ) There has been 2 opportunities for ALL the players to order their equipment. XV. Upcoming Baseball Season A.Outlook : It all starts with Great Pitching and Great Defense and Timely hitting. This was the formula that produced great success last season and in the game of baseball at any level, it starts and ends in that order. We will have STRONG starting pitching, great bullpen and Middle Relief and great Short Relief as well, and a Closer to close out the games. This is why FALL Baseball is extremely important as in those 3 months I can really see how the Team will gel headed in to the Spring and eventually into the start and throughout the entire season. On 01/23/2016 We will participate in Media Day for HSBN. On this day we will reveal our NEW White VEST Uniforms. The GOAL is to WIN and Compete and make it into the STATE Final Four and eventually make a run for the State Title and try to win it ALL. B. Returning Players. From last years team we only graduated 3 Seniors, and there were 3 NEW transfers in which I mentioned earlier that will make an impact and help immediately to the success of the Varsity Team. Infielder Andres Santana who had an incredible Summer and has caught the eye of several Colleges and Pro Scouts made 2 nd Team All Dade County and 1 st Team HSBN Selection. RHP Chauncey Nunez who was the Winning Pitcher in last years District Championship Game has had a great summer and a great Fall as well. As he has also drawn a lot of attention from various Colleges and Pro Scouts as well. These players are all Juniors. Sophomore Pitcher Juan Osorio who earned the Save in the District Title Game pitched a complete game in the victory over Mater Academy who made it to the State Semifinals also had a great summer and has drawn a lot of attention from Colleges and Scouts as well. Upcoming Season ( continued ) Letting ALL Parents & Players know that I will do what is BEST for the TEAM. The Team comes 1 st. I will do what is best for the individual as well, but EVERY Parent needs to understand that this is TEAM oriented Game. Playing Time will strictly be evaluated through my coaches and finally we will come together as a staff and determine who will be the BEST 9 players that will give our Ball Club a chance to win on that given day. A reminder that its NOT the 9 players who start the game, its the 9 players that FINISH the game. This will be a DAY to DAY process and a GAME to GAME Process and Decision. I understand that everyone will have their own opinion and everyone is their own coach, but ultimately there only one Head Coach who makes that decision, and that would be ME. XVI. Dress Policy & Hair and Facial Policy NO Earrings. Shirts MUST be tucked inside their Pants while in School. Players are NOT to wear Flip Flops and they are to wear proper shoes and socks to school. ALL Players are to wear proper dress pants to school. Facial Hair CANNOT be beyond their mustache if they have a mustache. The hair CANNOT be passed the Collar. Absolutely NO LONG HAIR!!!! NO RUBBER BANDS ON THE HAIR EITHER!!!! No lines on the Hair,No designs on the hair or on the Head. No bleaching of the Hair. NO GOATEE. I want my Ball Club and anyone who is part of the Baseball Program MUST be CLEAN CUT!!! I believe that being a CLEAN CUT player will go a long way in how another coach, college coach, or even a scout will perceive of you. Myself in being the Head Coach,I have set the example as an Educator in the Classroom and on the Field as a Coach. With this being said, I recall when other MLB Players would come from other organizations would come to the New York Yankees to play those players had to comply with the rules as well. Players such as Jason Giambi, Johnny Damon and Kevin Youkilis had no problem in complying with the Facial and Hair Policy. If they wanted to play they would comply with the Team Rules. The same will apply for EVERY player who plays baseball at SLAM. Players WILL NOT be allowed to practice or play if they do not comply with these rules. CELL PHONE POLICY PLAYERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE THEIR CELL PHONES DURING PRACTICE TIME OR GAMETIME. IF MYSELF OR ONE OF MY COACHES CATCHES A PLAYER ON THEIR CELL PHONE DURING A PRACTICE OR A GAME, THE PLAYER WILL BE KICKED OUT OF PRACTICE AND WILL SERVE A ONE GAME SUSPENSION. AS SOON AS PRACTICE OR THE GAME IS OVER, I WILL ALLOW PLAYERS TO BE ON THEIR CELL PHONES. PLAYERS AND PARENTS ARE TO BE AWARE OF THIS. XVII. Behavioral Issues in the Classroom. Problems with any teacher or any faculty member or Administrator WILL NOT be tolerated. Players need to understand that they are to respect their teachers, faculty members and administrators all the time. I will have ZERO tolerance for any player who misbehaves or disrespects any of their teachers in the classroom. I have mentioned to ALL of the players that they are STUDENTS first, then ATHLETES second. Student / Athletes. If a player gets issued a Detention, he will be SUSPENDED for at least ONE Practice and a GAME. FIRST OFFENSE. If a Player gets reprimanded by a teacher, faculty member or an administrator as their 2 nd OFFENSE, he will be subject to being SUSPENDED for a week in practice or a week of games. If a player gets reprimanded or in trouble for a 3 rd OFFENSE, then he will be subject to a SIX week SUSPENSION and possibly being dismissed from the Program. THREE STRIKES AND YOU ARE OUT!!!!! I have told Players that they need to act like Role Models and to represent them selves in a classy manner on and off the playing field. If a player is having an issue with anyone or any teacher or any faculty member in school, they need to come speak to me about it, to see if I can help aid and find a solution to the problem. * The Motto is this: BEFORE YOU THINK OF DOING IT, THINK ABOUT IT TWICE AND THINK ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES THAT WILL LIE AHEAD. * XVIII.
