LENT 2016 Lent is a 40 day period prior to Easter in which Christians have traditionally and intentionally set apart to focus on the heart of our faith, that being the suffering, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. As we wrap up our Christmas season in which we remember God coming to us in the flesh, we now look to how God chooses to save us and this world from darkness, brokenness, pain, and sin. Lent begins on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. This is the day we celebrate as ASH WEDNESDAY. You are invited to join us at the church for our Ash Wednesday experience. You can participate in this experience between the times of 10 A.M. and 7 P.M. This is NOT a worship service; this is a spiritual journey you take at your own pace. Spend 30 minutes in the experience; spend over an hour if you so choose. Come as a family, come with friends, or come alone. Children and youth are welcomed to participate. However, there will be activities and care for young children and babies if needed. It is our hope and prayer that this Ash Wednesday experience and Lenten season will be a time for you spend some intentional time nurturing and developing your relationship with God. God has truly given us the greatest gift, offering us His peace, reconciliation, forgiveness and love through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As God raised Jesus on Easter morning, may this season be an opportunity for you to be raised from those places of hurt, pain, bad habits, loss, and brokenness in your life. For our God seeks to give you abundant life! We look forward to seeing you at our Ash Wednesday experience and in worship during this important season of our Christian year. God bless!

WORSHIP IN THE NEW YEAR A new calendar year is upon us! So I am wondering......have you made those New Year's Resolutions? During the month of January, we will participate in a worship series called, "A Better You." We all strive to be better people; we know there are issues in our lives that we need to address; we realize there are places in our daily routines that need to change. So join us in January as we look at the four different aspects of our lives that Jesus challenges us to love God with our all: heart (emotional well being & love), mind (mental health & reasoning), soul (spiritual livelihood & faith tending), strength (physical health & caring for the body). Each one of us can grow in one or more of these areas......and we should seek to do so for the purpose of giving to God the very best of us! As one Christian artist proclaims, "We are God's children rescued for His glory!" May it be so in 2016 as we continue to be the church where all people are accepted and loved! The last Sunday of January is the first 5th Sunday in the New Year. This will be a “All Generations Worship Sunday.” The 9:00 A.M. service will be more typical of our traditional service with multi-aged worship moments. The 11:00 A.M. service, however, will be a full-blown service with skits, videos, games, and engaging songs for all people! So, you do not want to miss worship on this last Sunday in January as we include our children's ministry in the worship service that day. February brings the season of Lent. We will begin that 40 day journey to the cross, reflecting on the meaning of Jesus' life, death, and Resurrection. What does that mean for us? How does the cross and the empty grave change our lives? Join us as we wrestle with these questions and apply new learning to our lives as follows of Jesus. We are looking forward to this New Year, with new opportunities to worship, love, and serve as Christ's followers in this world. Brad Hyde

THE LOFT is a new worship experience at Kodak Church, where we gather as a community seeking to encounter God’s presence, grace, and love through intimate and Spirit led worship each week. All ages are welcome to join us in the gathering space at Kodak Church every Monday at 7:00pm.

Resurrection 2016 is rapidly approaching! Starting January 22nd we will be staying at a cabin in

Gatlinburg as we embark on a completely new and exciting experience. You’ve probably participated in

Resurrection in the past, but this year it will be in Pigeon Forge at the LeConte Convention Center. I

hope you’re as excited as I am. This year’s speaker will be Fred Lynch. Fred is a dynamic communicator

whose heart’s desire is to take the expressions of this generation and use them to glorify God through

relevant, relatable, and radical truths. At the age of 18, he focused on P.I.D (Preachers in Disguise) one

of the first gospel rap acts and went on to record 6 albums. Fred is the author of The Script (an artistic

translation of the Gospel of John in rap), What’s a Fo’ sheezy? (e-book on slang with discussion Q&A),

and The Real (New Testament in Biblezene form). Fred lives in Dallas, Texas with his Wife of 24 years

and their two children. This is going to be an awesome experience you don’t want to miss. Worship will

be led by Bellarive, and the one and only Chris Tomlin will be performing a special concert!

The high school ski trip is coming up this February! Students will have the option of either

snowboarding or skiing, for a great price! We will be traveling to Winterplace Ski Resort in

West Virginia.

Middle School Glow Night will be coming up this April! This is going to be an exhilarating

event full of fun games, worship, and of course, glow sticks! More information on this

awesome event is to come!

I want to wish you all a Happy New Year. As always, I am here to serve you and your students in the

highest way possible through our Lord and Savior. I am always available for any questions or concerns

that you may have. Please feel free to contact me at any time.

So Others May Live,

Deep Bible Study will be starting back on Wednesday, January 13th at 5:30 pm. This study is designed for children from Kindergarten age and up. It is a video based study with games and activities included with each lesson. If your child is interested in being a part of this study, please let Patsy know as soon as possible in order for materials to be purchased.

The Peak worship for kids is gearing up for the New Year. In January our theme is Power Up and our Life App is Self Control – Choosing to do what you should do, not what you want to do. In February our theme is High Gear and our Life App is Cooperation – Working together to do more than you can do alone. Should be a great start to the year so come and join in the fun.

EXCITING NEWS FROM CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

We have been blessed by so much generosity that the total cost of our playground has been raised. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to those that have made this wonderful project come alive. Contracts were signed on December 15th , and we are projected to have the equipment delivered by mid to late January. The structure will be something that children for years to come will enjoy. Thank you so much.

RezKidz is an annual family worship event that is age appropriate for children through 5th grade. This year it is being held at the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge on Saturday, January 23rd – Sunday, January 24th. For more information regarding the event go to their web site at www.rezkidz.com.
