Making A Difference: Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
TRAINER: SHANNON BALDWIN, JESSE ROBINSON, AMY WILLIS,
ELYSSA BURCH
This comprehensive training is for all mandated reporters of suspected child abuse and neglect and will focus on the following: Identifying the signs of abuse and neglect; discussing who must report, as well as how a report is made; and identifying research-based protective factors that can help prevent child maltreatment.
Let’s Talk About Talking to Parents
TRAINER: JESSE ROBINSON
In this session we will discuss the importance of building relationships with families in order to have effective communication.
Acknowledge, Ask and Adapt
TRAINER: TRACEY BARKER
In this session, we will discuss how to use a strategy process called Acknowledge, Ask and Adapt. This strategy helps you communicate and understand the reasons behind the beliefs, values, and behaviors of families in addition to responding in culturally sensitive ways. We will talk about ways caregivers can help parents by easing concerns about their child in child care and how you as the caregiver can better relate to parents in moments of frustration.
The Multiple Household Shuffle
TRAINER: SHANNON BALDWIN
This training will look at the effects of shared caregiving on children and the importance of helping them feel secure when their routines may feel chaotic. We will focus heavily on the roles and impact of routines and relationships.
Child Portfolios: Handle With Love
TRAINER: PAULA STEWART
Caregivers will learn the importance of creating a child portfolio and how it can not only assist in individualizing lesson plans for children, but can also be an instrument to show love and appreciation for each child’s growth and development.
Special Needs in the ECE Setting
TRAINER: ELYSSA BURCH
This training focuses heavily on laws, specifically IDEA- Part C & B, and ADA. Participants will review IFSP's & IEP's and learn how to utilize these documents to better teach and work with the children in their classrooms who have a special need or disability. The training will cover attitudes, such as personal and society attitudes on inclusion, and how to work closely with parents and families of children with special needs or disabilities. Typical and Atypical development will be discussed; as well as how to create a high quality inclusive classroom and how to adapt the setting, materials, and curriculum to help meet children where they are.
Let’s Get Ethical
TRAINER: JESSE ROBINSON
During this session, participants will learn about the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. We will discuss how this can help early childcare professionals face ethical dilemmas within their profession.
The Role of the Quality Improvement Specialist
TRAINER:
JESSICA WILCOXON
Description: Program administrators will better understand the role of a Quality Improvement Specialist in the West Virginia Tiered Reimbursement Process and what the QIS could mean for their program.
Sensory Play: Let’s Have Fun!
TRAINER: TRACEY BARKER
This session dives into how sensory play is needed in the classroom for infants and toddlers. Not only will you enjoy some sensory activities, you will become familiar with how sensory play helps the child's development within brain growth, motor skills, creativity, social-emotional skills, and problem solving skills!
Reaching the Unreachable: A Training on Trauma
TRAINER: ELYSSA BURCH
Participants will learn about and discuss the different kinds of trauma. Participants will reflect on their own experiences and abilities to self-regulate in order to better serve the children in their classroom who have endured more than most. Participants will learn about how trauma impacts the central nervous system of young children and how they can better reach, connect, and teach children with trauma.
West Virginia Early Learning Standards Framework Infant
Toddler I/T
TRAINER: TRACEY BARKER
This session provides an overview of the WV Early Learning Standards Framework for Infants/Toddlers. Participants working with the infant/toddler age group will discover why standards are used in everyday life. An in-depth examination of the document will allow participants to become familiar with the layout and the how and why of using it with young children and including lesson plans.
NewsLink 5
An Inside Look at Bullying
TRAINER: SHANNON BALDWIN
This training will discuss the basics of bullying such as the various types, warning signs, and getting help. It will also explore the impact of bullying on children’s social-emotional development as well as their long-term mental health and well-being.
Teamwork, Let’s Work Together!
TRAINER: AMY WILLIS
This session will discuss teamwork at work, why it is important, as well as what a good team member may be, and how to go from being a good team member to being great. It
will also get colleagues interacting with one another while having them work together as a team. In doing so they will learn some things about their co-workers they may not have
known prior to this session.
Room Arrangement: Calming the Chaos
TRAINER: AMY WILLIS
In this session participants will learn about room arrangement and how it impacts the children as a class and individually.
Digging Deep into Professionalism
