Sunday Bible Study – 9:45 AM Study of the Book of 2nd Timothy

and Titus.

The Pastoral Epistles are three letters written by the Apostle Paul. The Pastoral Epistles are 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy and Titus . All three are letters from an old man at the close of his ministry who is concerned for his successors in the Pastorate. As such, letters concern the things that would be crucial for the young pastors to understand – church, organization and discipline, including such matters as the appointment of Elders and Deacons, the opposition of rebellious members or false teachers, and the maintenance of doctrinal purity. As instructional letters to younger pastors, Paul’s Pastoral Epistles are invaluable today. These letters are full of heartfelt warnings and instructions that characterize Paul’s ministry, revealing his pastor’s heart for the care for the churches he founded. The Pastoral Epistles are the “How-to” manual for pastors in all places and for all time.

Wednesday Bible Study – 6:30 PM

Bible Study will resume on January 9, 2019 for 8 weeks. This study will be taught by our DCE, Taylor Stichler. We will be covering the Book of James. The Book of James looks a bit like the Old Testament Book of Proverbs dressed up in New Testament clothes. Its consistent focus on practical action in the life of faith in reminiscent of the wisdom literature in the Old Testament, encouraging God’s people. The pages of James are filled with direct commands to pursue a life of holiness. He makes no excuses for those who do not measure up in the mind of this early church leader, Christians evidence their faith by walking in certain ways and not others. For James, a faith that does not produce real life changes is a faith that is worthless. This is a very interesting and enlightening study.

John Knox Bible Study – Thursdays 10:00 AM

Study of I Peter & II Peter

Our inheritance through Christ is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. In 1

& 2 Peter, a man of faith and flaws and eyewitness to the life of Christ

challenges us to look beyond our current circumstances to a future

inheritance. He shares his concerns on big picture issues for the early church,

describes believers’ true identity in Christ, and ultimately helps readers

discover what it means to experience the Living Hope they have in Christ.

Key themes of humility, submission, and identity in Christ guide the study of

1 & 2 Peter as participants are challenged to read the book in its entirety.

Book Club Take This Cup

By Bodie & Brock Thoene

Woven into the fabric of prophecy, a young boy named Nehemiah must choose to embrace his destiny as cupbearer to the King of Kings. Nehemiah, the young son of a Jewish woman, a weaver from Jerusalem, is born and raised among the Jews who didn't return to Jerusalem from the Exile. Educated by Rabbi Kagba, one of the magi present at Jesus' birth thirty years earlier, Nehemiah grows up with the expectation of a soon-coming Messiah. Could the Yeshua of Nazareth, who is walking the earth, reportedly doing miracles, be that Messiah? When young Nehemiah must travel the long caravan road to Jerusalem, he is charged with an unusual mission—to carry a mysterious object back to the holy city of Jerusalem…an object whose reappearance heralds the Messiah's arrival. Nehemiah arrives in Jerusalem just as the final events of Jesus' earthly ministry are coming to a climax: the Feast of

Dedication, the Triumphal Entry, the last cleansing of the Temple, and culminating at the Last Supper in the Upper Room. Only Nehemiah understands the true sacrifice that is to come as he makes the cup worthy of his Savior
