History of JTTRI1968: The Japan Transport Economic Research Center

(JTERC) was founded by the initiatives of the Ministry of Transport and the Japanese business community.

1991: The Japan International Transport Institute, USA (JITI) was established within JTERC to strengthen U.S. and global information gathering.

2018: Upon the occasion of the 50-year anniversary of the Institute, a new logo was established. Also, theInstitute was renamed the Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI).

The Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI) is an independent, non-profit organization which was founded through initiatives of the Japanese Ministry of Transport, academic institutions, and business organizations in 1968. While keeping close relations with the Japanese government, academic community, and transport industry, the Institute has been conducting research and surveys on contemporary issues of the time, thus supporting the government and transport/tourism industries throughout its 50 years of operation.

Our Missions1) Contribute towards the development of transport/tourism policy in order to promote economic

prosperity, public welfare, and the quality of life.2) Evaluate and advise governments on transport/tourism policy issues.3) Advance greater harmony in international relations.

Our Activities1) New technology and its future potential: ① Survey on applying technical innovation to the mobility

revolution ② Research on cyber security for public transport systems2) Surveys and research on transportation:

① Surveys on outlooks regarding the future of urban railways inmega cities of Japan

② Research on the current situation of aviation industry and itsfuture prospects

3) Regional and international cooperative exchange programs:① Study on the creation of a hub of knowledge relating to

transportation improvement in Asian countries② International exchanges with transport-related institutes

4) Tourism issues: ① Study on tourism and regional transportation ② International symposiums on tourism and national branding5) Consulting on matters related to transport/tourism:

・ Conduct traffic surveys, demand forecasting, etc. upon consignment from the Japanese Ministry ofLand, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, local governments, and private companies.

6) Hosting seminars, lecture sessions, and study groups: ・High Speed Rail Seminar in Tokyo and Washington D.C. etc. ・Aviation Workshop, Urban Transportation Seminar etc.
