◆Additional NPP Construction and International Nuclear Business were the major theme of PA gathering with the public. ◆People’s main concern was global warming and reduction of CO2 derived by energy ◆The Fukushima accident was mainly caused by * Underestimation of Tsunami *No countermeasure against long time station blackout * No consideration against 4th and 5th layer of the defense in depth of nuclear safety (by draft report of Atomic Energy Society of Japan Investigate Committee) ◆ Also in our PA activities, didn’t have any knowledge regarding the above, have not given the public related information. Whole nuclear related people had weakness of the defense against severe accident

At the Present Big Concern – Contaminated Water
Government’s statement expressed to the world *Prime Minister Abe addressed Japanese government stands in
the front to control the situation. *Three countermeasures of the Tokyo Electric Power (1)Secure funds/budgets which could be used by the site at its
own discretion to ensure safety measures towards the decommissioning works.
(2)Decontaminate the contaminated water within a specific period.
(3)Determine the decommissioning of the suspended Units 5 &6 at Fukushima Daiichi NPS to focus on accident management
Prime Minister Abe also expressed to decrease nuclear energy’s share.
But what’s the point of time of share of power, if just before the accident, it was 30% of power generation, if it is placed in the current energy policy target share it is 52% .

Prediction about Re-Operation of NPP
from the side of regulation
The nuclear regulation Authority was inaugurated in September 2012, new safety standards were enforced in last July, and the present conformity examination for 14units out of 50units is undergone.
Other units are delayed by reason of under preparation of safety-measures construction, an active fault problem, a aging degradation and opposition movement among local government.
It seems that re-operation will be permitted from the plant where confirming safe conditions were carried out towards the peak of the electricity demand of winter.

Prediction about to Re-Operation
from the side of PA
Although NPP site communities are welcoming re-operation, but surrounding cities, towns and villages and urban-area residents still have the strong opposition.
Feel like that PA activity will begin with a dialog being close contact with local interest towards re-operation.
The door to door visit know-how which electric companies have been cultivated for a long time will bring good effect to the back up re-operation.
Face to Face is essential after all.

Students’ ambition – An example of

42 New students entered Nuclear Engineering Division of Tokyo City University in 2013 (Capacity:30)
Total students are 220 (undergraduates 180 graduates 40)
In spite of such difficult atmosphere, boys and girls are finding out their ambition in nuclear field.
Most of new students say “To recover Fukushima is our Mission”.
Youngsters’ Belief is that Nuclear Energy is indispensable for the future energy solution of Japan.
