FAQ

I’m looking into becoming an apprentice. What should I do?There has never been a better time to be an apprentice and study CIMA. CIMA is using their experience with the old apprenticeship frameworks to support employers and tuition providers to ensure apprentices are successful.

What apprenticeship standards can I study CIMA on?CIMA will have apprentices studying the Certificate in Business Accounting at a number of employers through two separate apprenticeship standards from September 2016. These will be:

• Professional Accounting / Tax Technician

• Junior Management Consultant

Your employer could either mandate or give you a choice of pathway through the chosen apprenticeship standard. Ensure you ask your employer the study pathway they will be offering.

How can I apply for an apprenticeship to study CIMA?Many employers are offering CIMA as an option for their apprenticeships. You can use a variety of sites to find employers offering apprenticeships in finance, however most apprenticeships can be found via the government website www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship. If CIMA is the qualification you want to study always ask to ensure this is a possible pathway before accepting a role.

What has changed?New apprenticeship standards have been developed by employers for specific job roles. The apprenticeship standard can have a variety of different learning pathways such as the Professional Accounting / Tax Technician which enables you to gain a professional qualification such as CIMA or AAT whilst on the programme.

FAQ continued

I’m already an apprentice, or have an apprentice working for me; will I be affected?Don’t worry. The current apprenticeship frameworks are still being funded and those on these pathways will remain

until they complete the programme. You should already be in discussion with your tuition provider about the new apprenticeship standards ready for delivery and how they will impact you and prospective apprentices for your business.
