Inn By The SeaTwenty-two years ago, Inn by the Sea was built as an intimate coastal inn, replacing the former Crescent Beach Inn. Nationally recognized for its eco-friendly and pet-friendly practices, the Inn and its grounds have enjoyed a complete multi-million dollar renovation in the spring of 2008, elevating it to into Maine’s premier luxury beach destination.

University of Maine Augusta - Architectural Design VII Senior Thesis - Fall 2007/Spring 2008 - Advisor: Eric Stark Urban Intervention
Relief, Recovery, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Re-inhabitation are critical phases in th e process of revitalizing the urban landscape of a disaster aff ected community. By exploring public architecture and innovative technology as it relates to disaster aff ected communities this investigation attempts to create a space which in turn serves as a gathering place to re-weave a tattered urban fabric.
Cafe Module
Concept:The cafe module serves as the catalyst for social interaction in this project. The use of an everday, common, banal coffee helps to give a sense of normalcy in an otherwise unthinkable situation.
Gathering Module
Concept:The gathering module serves as an indoor space to house social interaction of those affected by the disaster. The space is purposefully empty with minimal modular furniture to promote flexibility.

Pre-Disaster Disaster Response Relief Rebuilding
Statement of Purpose:Disaster is defi ned as, “A sudden calamitous event bringing great damage, loss, or destruction.” A disaster can be separated into a series of specifi c characteristics and phases to be explored further in the context of this thesis. In the aftermath of a disaster, inhabitants of now defunct communities strive for normalcy and the ability to continue with their pre-disaster lives. The fact is; nothing in the unfamiliar landscape of the disaster area will be normal again. The scars, both mental and physical, left by the disaster will be present for generations to come. The aff ected community is missing something, the lack of public gathering space in the aff ected community hinders the redevelopment of the community’s fabric. Disasters “adversely aff ect a relatively large group of people.” Those people are, in fact, a community. Communities can vary in size and scale. They may be an entire city, a district or ward, a neighborhood, or a street. The fact is that in the wake of a disaster, a community is interrupted. The entire community will experience the same distinctive phases of a disaster which ultimately provides a common thread to be used in the redevelopment of the community fabric.
University of Colorado Denver - Design Studio IV - Fall 2008 - Joe ColistraTarlton Library
Mission:The Tarlton Intermediate School and Community Master Plan intends to create a prototype of a sustainable community for 1500 residents, specifi cally designed for the climate and culture of South Africa; the master plan seeks to provide a safe learning environment, adequate medical treatment, growth of commerce, and a high standard of living for all community members.
Library/Admin./Media Center: Acting as a physical gateway to the school complex, the Center also acts as a symbolical gateway for the community to the world.

AE Hodsdon Engineers - Project: O’Connell Family Camp - Rome, Maine - 2007O’Connell Camp
The O’Connell Camp located on Great Pond in the famous Belgrade Lakes Region in central Maine is a summer retreat for a family of four and their friends from New Jersey. With little buildable land on the site it was a challenge to locate the building. The open deisgn in both plan and section reinforces the social nature of this project.Generous social spaces both indoors and out all focus upon the lake, the center of all activity at the camp.

University of Colorado Denver - Advanced Studio - Fall 2009 - Phillip GallegosInfill Charrette
621 Iron Street was a three day charrette in Albuquerque to design housing on a small suburban lot just west of downtown. The goal of this exercise was to prime the studio for a larger, more extensive housing project that followed.
