Raising the Bar
As St. Edmund administration and
faculty continually strive to guide
students on a path to achievement,
we look for ways to make
curriculum more rigorous. With the
assistance of the Steering
Committee, several program options
were studied to increase ACT scores.
ACT Mastery Prep curriculum was
selected to enhance current
classroom instruction. Teachers in
grades 7-12 participated in trainings
to implement ACT Mastery Prep
strategies into the current
curriculum. St. Edmund hosted its
first Mastery Prep Boot Camp in
November. ACT Mastery Prep
course has been added to the spring
curriculum. In this dedicated course,
students will focus strategies to
improve test taking skills, as well as,
review content tested on the ACT.
JAYS' QUARTERLY 3
In October, St. Edmund welcomed
volleyball to our athletic program. The
5th/6th grade team opened our first
game, followed by our 7th/8th grade
team. Students and parents celebrated
our historic journey by filling the new
gym to cheer on our latest addition.
In November, the TJays hosted the
annual Acadiana Catholic League
Crawfish Bowl. The7/8th grade TJays
placed 2nd in league play.
The BlueJays opened post season
football with a trip to Donaldsonville
to play Ascension Catholic.
November also brought in sights of 2
packed gyms on a daily basis as
elementary, middle, and high schools
began to practice for their upcoming
basketball seasons.
2017 Softball Coach Announced
Megan Granger joined the faculty in December 2016. Miss
Granger is a graduate of Teurlings Catholic High School where
she was named to Academic All State in both basketball and
softball her senior year. Miss Granger began her college career

the Annual Nativity Program.
JAYS' QUARTERLY 5
Following the elementary Nativity
program, students and parents walked to
the new gym where they were treated to
another Christmas play. The junior class
scripted, directed, and performed a
Christmas play. Journey along with us on
the Jesus Train as we search through the
modern world on our search for Hope and
Light in the celebration of the birth of our

Medical School Future Plans/Goals:
I am currently in my second year of medical school where we have a test every one to two weeks for a year
then will study for six weeks straight for our first national boards exam – USMLE Step 1 in June; therefore,
if you asked my quick answer to future plans I would probably have to say survive this year! The reality,
though, is I get to wake up every day and learn as much as I can about the human body so my daily goal is to
grow in as much knowledge as I can so that I may one day be the hands of Christ to the best of my ability
when I get to my practice. I’m currently on the Catholic Medical Student Association Board as I help my
classmates gain awareness in faith and medical ethics, and I’m the President of the Geaux Bald society
which fundraises for St. Baldrick’s Childhood Cancer Research. I’m very blessed to marry an amazing man,
Tyler Theriot, on June 16th, 2017 (4 days after I take my Step 1), so a lot of what little free time I do have
during the day is spent preparing for the sacrament of marriage. God willing, I will graduate as a doctor of
medicine in 2019 and either match for a residency program immediately or defer a year so that I can match
together with my husband who is a year behind me in medical school. I am not sure what field of medicine I
would currently like to go into, I know that I like surgery and practices that allow a strong doctor-patient
relationship, but I will not know what I am allowed to go into until I receive my Step 1 scores so I have tried
not to get attached to any particular field yet. In the midst of finishing school and a 4-6 year residency, my
fiancé and I hope to start a family and eventually settle down in a town where we can both practice whatever
we go into!
