A 3 HOURSTOUR to learn the history
of Jazz in Paris
Stopping near Pont Neuf, your guide will tell you about the jazzscene in Montmartre. The area, which once teemed with nightclubs, saw the development of the "French chanson" in the pre-WWIperiod. When jazz arrived in 1919, there was a clash between thetraditionalists who admired the "French chanson" and those whopreferred the new jazz style.
You’ll continue into the 5th arrondissement to the "Caveau de laHuchette", the oldest jazz club in Paris. Bebop jazz pianist BudPowell played in the now-defunct "Chat Qui Pêche", a club that stoodacross the street from the Caveau. In the vicinity are 2 other historicclubs that still feature jazz. Trumpeter and jazz singer Chet Baker andblues singer Memphis Slim performed here.

"I highly recommend this tour to
those with an interest in the history
and performance of jazz in Paris. Nic
was a friendly and knowledgeable
guide and very familiar with the busy
St Germain and Latin Quarter areas.
It was nice to stop for a drink at a
hotel where jazz musicians used to
stay. The walk was easy and the
Chez Papa jazz restaurant where we
ended up for dinner was fantastic -
first rate food, friendly staff and
excellent musicians. Jazz lovers -
don't miss this tour!"
