  • SPEAKER PLACEMENTProper placement of the speak-ers is an important step inobtaining the most realisticsoundstage possible. Theserecommendations are for theoptimum placement of the loud-

speakers. Use these placementrecommendations as a guide.Slight variations will not dimin-ish your listening pleasure.

All of the Northridge E Seriesloudspeakers referred to in thisguide are video-shielded andcan safely be placed near atelevision.

    CONNECTION TIPS

Speakers and electronics termi-nals have corresponding posi-tive (+) and negative () termi-nals. It is important to connectboth speakers identically: posi-tive (+) on the speaker to posi-tive (+) on the amplifier andnegative () on the speaker tonegative () on the amplifier.Wiring out of phase results in thin sound, weak bass and a poor stereo image. With the advent of multichannelsurround sound systems, con-necting all of the speakers inyour system with the correctpolarity remains as important asever in order to preserve theproper ambience and direction-

ality of the program material. To use the binding-post speakerterminals, unscrew the coloredcollar until the pass-throughhole in the center post is visibleunder the collar. Insert the bareend of the wire through thishole; then screw the collardown until the connection istight. The hole in the center of eachcollar is intended for use withbanana-type connectors. Tocomply with European CE certification, these holes areblocked with plastic inserts atthe point of manufacture. To usebanana-type connectorsrequires the removal of theinserts. Do not remove theseinserts if you are using theproduct in an area covered bythe European CE certification.

Drill two pilot holes, appropri-ately sized for the specific self-tapping screw or wall anchorthat you will be using. The holesshould be 8 inches (203mm)apart. See Figure 1. The holesshould be 3/4" (19mm) belowwhere you want the top of theenclosure to be positioned.
