Welcome to the first “Jeans and Genetics” Simmental Bull Sale. With all the excitement and energy in the beef cattle business, we welcome a new Simmental Bull Sale to be sold in Ponoka this 17th of February. The sale itself is a new exciting concept but these Simmental seedstock producers have been assembling these “Jeans and Genetics” for some time now.

This group of Simmental breeders all share the same beliefs and ideas in customer service and the type of product which they strive to produce and market. They believe the success of the customers will translate into their own success and propel their operations and customer base forward. The seedstock business can be a difficult jigsaw to figure out each year, in terms of what their customers’ needs will be for the upcoming year. As you study the sale book you will find all your needs can be met. This selection of bulls is of sound structured, phenotypically correct, hairy, stout individuals with fresh genetics and balanced numbers to back them up. They have all the necessary tools to add value for their new owners and programs. No matter if it’s a power bull or calving ease herd sire you require this selection will provide multiple choices. If an extra age bull

to cover some more cows is required to do the job, there will be a nice selection of older Simmental bulls with more age to choose from. These extra age bulls are very hard to come across within the industry.

As a special feature there will be a select offering of semen on offer, upwards of 70 doses. This is an added bonus for those customers who are using timed AI or selecting unique matings on certain individuals. Something that is not offered in every sale.

Spruce View AcresWelcome to the first annual Jeans & Genetics Bull Sale. We are honored about being asked to join this first of and I’m sure, many bull sales to come. We are very proud about our offering this year. I think this is the best set of bulls we have ever raised. They are born within days of each other and are as consistent as they come. All bulls are easy to work with and weren’t creep fed at all through the summer and were pail fed bull ration after weaning. These bulls are like our kids. Sad that they’re leaving but excited for what they will accomplish. Stop in anytime to have a look at them or call about any questions. Enjoy the sale!

I call Carlito the “diamond in the ruff.” When you walk in the pen, he isn’t the first one you notice but when you do, you will take note that he very well could be the best one in the group. He has a little lighter weaning weight than he normally would have; he suffered a case of foot rot that set him back about two weeks. If it weren’t for that, I’m sure he would have had the second highest weaning weight. If this fellow would have had goggles, he would be staying at home. Thick, thick butted and solid as a rock. His mom is one of our problem free cows I can always count on.

If EPD numbers matter to you, then take a look here. Taco has a good overall set of EPD’s. This bull was bigger than his momma at weaning and by looking at him now; he is just as big as his pen mates. With Anchor D Rawlins and Topnotch in his pedigree, you can expect calving ease with performance and it mixed perfectly with this fellow. This guy will walk and breed like a damn. Large testicles and colored right. What are you waiting for?

I was so excited when Tonka was born. Even though we have had many outstanding bulls in the past, I have waited 15 years to get a bull that ticks off everything on my list, and I’m very nitpicky and Tonka does it. He has tremendous length, depth and thickness; hard to get all three. Plus he’s dark red, goggle eyed, has good feet, large testicles, an outstanding weaning weight, great maternal, out of one of my favorite cows and a real mamma’s suck. I can’t go anywhere without him following me. I was planning on keeping him for myself but I knew if we were going to the sale, he would have to go and it’s the hardest decision I have had to make. Noticed immediately by everyone who walks in the pen.

Jasper comes out of my hardest working cow family and his sire, Raptor is leaving us with the most correct females we have ever had born here. Small birth weight with great EPD’s, top 20% for milk, 15% for weanling and yearling weight, 10% for maternal weaning and CWT. I don’t know about you, but Jas-per looks like a winner to me. Should throw lots of pigment too.

The yearling weights may be a little off on some of these calves because the day we were weighing, we were hit with freezing rain and I’m not sure if my digital scale was affected or not but we kept the weights anyways. When you see how thick this rascal is, I’m sure sale weight will be more accurate. Muscling on his backside that’s going to the top of his back. His mom is another spoiled pet of ours that never disappoints. Top 10% weaning and milk.

Cowboy Tough is a bull I designed for the cattle rancher who has too busy of a life to fuss over cattle that can’t fend for themselves and that’s why I named him what I did. This bull will walk and breed like a damn. Large testicles, blood red, good calving ease, a small head and smooth shoulder. He has a 104 birth weight but he also came out of a 2000 pound cow. His sire, Xerxes was used in our heifer pen for three years with good success, when we sold him to Randy Archibald and there are days when I wish I had him back. Top 5% for milk EPD.

Ghost Whisper is the bull that Robert Garnier picked out as the calf to watch for when he came through the pens, last spring and by golly, he is right. Every day when I walk through the pen, I admire him more and more. I really like this bull. But I shouldn’t be surprised. He is going to be a big broody bull, just like his mom, Kara, and she stamps all her calves the same. You could pick her calves out of a herd of a 1000 head. She has excellent feed and legs, udder and as gentle as they come.

Duce is from a hard working, deep bodied, no nonsense cow who gets the job done. Deuce has a smaller head and smooth shoulder. Another bull who keeps on getting better and better each time I look at him.

Hawkeye will definitely get noticed on sale day. He is one sharp looking bull and is better than his picture shows. His sire, Wichita is coming six years old this year and every year I say it will probably be his last year here and every year, I keep him back. His calves just keep getting better and better. Perfor-mance and consistency. I could have sold him a dozen times over to good cattlemen. He is a gentle giant that I can do anything with, with just a show of my hand and he passes that onto his calves. Walks like a cat too. No feet problems here.

If you are looking to increase the frame size in your cow herd, Shadow may do the trick for you, while adding performance as well. Another good Wichita calf from a problem free mother.

Outlaw is another bull that may increase frame size. I’m sure he has an extra rib or two as well. His mother, Meadow is one of the most spoiled cows here, with love not food, because she is one of the happiest cows I’ve seen. Corny, I know but it helps a lot. If I need the cows to do something, I can count on her to show them what I want and she passes this onto her calves. Once again, good maternal.

“Polled Basil” is dark red, smooth polled and an easier calving bull, with a shorter gestation. Good length of spine, lost of rib and has all the bells and whistles. He will improve udder and teat size. And don’t forget sometimes the girls like that in a sire.

Twin. “Bojito” is a guy that will really grow on you. He has a super personality just like his dam. Good growth bull out of a cow we purchase from B Bar C; he just is one of those meat and potatoes kind of bulls. So dark, dark red and as long as a freight train. He will go and get the job done.

“Barossa” is an embryo bull out of the late Riverbend Fiona, with the length of spine like a Cadillac, good spring of rib and walks like a cat. He has Fiona’s disposition, and is dark red, like she was.

“Bacardi” is a very unique kind of guy out of the old Haxent and an outcross dam we bought out east. Don’t pass him up, he lost his dam when he was only two weeks old and was fostered by a heifer. So he has done very well since he’s been weaned. He is very thick and loose hided.

“Barsalona” is the last offspring from Anchor D Lady Helga. He is a very outstanding guy; lots of guts, nuts and ribs. Long as a freightliner and walks out like an ally-cat. This bull will put those pounds and the growth on his calves by the fall you will be proud of.

“Bismo” is another easier calving bull that will work hard. His dam is a half sister to the Barsalona bull in the sale. She is a very complete, nice uttered young cow. He is very soggy and loose hided, has a lot of depth of rib. He’s a very nice guy and will make your girls happy.

We us him one season really liked his depth of body and performance; then he went to a commercial herd up north. Moonshine Simmentals

403B is a bull you have to appreciate for his overall length and mass. He is a stout bull with a great hair coat and a big hip. He comes from a very good milking female that was purchased out of the Royal Elite Sale in Ontario. Bens C.W. is a bull I raised two years ago who is out of NLC upgrade and RFS More Than a Memory, one of our elite donor cows.

This blaze face bull has a deep body, great temperament and lot of hair. His dam, 13U is a great producer, has an excellent udder and in 2009 was champion yearling heifer at AYCSA. 412B is sired by one of the top blaze face bulls in the industry, HOC Broker.

413B is a moderate framed, dark red bull who has lots of rib shape and natural thickness. He is sired by a Shear Force son, Swan Lake Force 28Y and is a half brother to 430B, Lot 61.

Certificate of RegistrationEach animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.
