4-H CAMP OPPORTUNITY

It’s time to think about SUMMER CAMP! Read all the way through for an exciting early bird price for 4-H camp! Summer 2020 will be here before we know it (thank goodness) and that means it’s time to think about 4-H Camp! Last year, Jefferson County 4-H participated in an “Open Enrollment” week of camp at Upham Woods in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Due to numbers and scheduling, Jefferson County will again participate in an Open Enroll-ment style week of camp. We are encouraging our 4-H’ers to attend the June 21-24 session. You can find more information about Upham Woods here.

We would love to fill this week of camp with our 4-H’ers and registra-tion is open now! We need you to act fast if your 4-H’er is interested in at-tending camp. You can follow this link to the Upham Wood website where you register.

If you register by March 16th, 2020, you will qualify for an early bird special to attend camp! The Jeffer-son County 4-H Leader’s Association will provide a re-duced camp cost of $150!! You will be asked to pay when you register but you don’t need to just yet. Jefferson County 4-H will send you an invoice in May 2020. The Extension Office is also

happy to work out payment plans of up to four payments. So sign up now! If you sign up after February 14

th, you can still at-

tend camp and fill out the Jefferson County 4-H Leader’s Asso-ciation Fund Request Form. But you better hurry! Spots for the Open Enrollment weeks fill up fast! Register now!

Other important notes:

If you are an adult wanting to volun-teer your time at camp, we would love to have you! You will also need to register but it is free to go! In 2021, we are hop-ing to attend Upham Woods with just Grant and Jefferson County 4-H’ers. At that time, we will really rely on YOU, the volunteers of 4-H to be the staff for that camp. This year would be a great oppor-tunity to get your feet wet and experience Upham Woods before we’re in charge in 2021!

If your youth would like to be a coun-selor (very encouraged for the reasons above), you can find more infor-mation here. Counselor trainings are only going to be offered three times this year

and the cost is reduced for counselors attending our Open Enrollment week of June 21-24! Again, the Leader’s Asso-ciation is providing a reduced cost for the training! Submit your registration or receipt from the training for reimburse-ment!

Changes to JCHP

Some important changes have occurred in the JCHP program

as Extension and Fair have more clearly defined the role

between 4-H and Fair Park. The top 3 changes include:

1. All Fair paperwork will now be submitted directly to the

Fair Office instead of the Extension Office.

2. The JCHP Committee can no longer act as Fair

Superintendent for the Horse Project. The Fair

Superintendent will remain the same for 2020 as for

2019, Penny Lepak.

3. The old JCHP Blue qualifying card will no longer act as

requirement for showing at the Jefferson County Fair.

The Jefferson County Fair show will still be used as the

qualifying show for the State 4-H show.

Focus Group Meetings

Thank you to all who attended the focus group meetings last

month! Your input was essential to defining the new

directions of JCHP! After compiling information received from

last month’s focus group meetings, the following changes

have been implemented:

1. State 4-H Shows: To be eligible for participation at the State 4-H Expo, Gymkhana and Hunt/Dressage shows, JCHP members will need to complete an eligibility card. Members are asked to complete five activities (including one fundrasier) from a wide range of activities. Some of these activities include: August Banquet, Countywide Meetings, Hippology, Poster/Speech/Photography, May Judging, Serving on a Committee, Horseless Horse Buddy, Drill Team, Horse Education Nights, November Leaders Conference. Cards are due to the JCHP Committee on or before the 3rd Tuesday in June. *4-H’ers also need to achieve a blue ribbon in a qualifying class at the Jefferson County Fair to be eligible for State Expo.

2. NEW 4-H Calendar Year: The new calendar year will begin with our October meeting with a focus on welcoming new members. We will not have countywide meetings in November or December, resuming monthly meetings again January - June. No meeting will be held in July due to County Fair, and the year-end banquet will be held in August on our regularly scheduled Tuesday night. No meeting in September.

3. Stall Cleanings: We have, based on member feedback, decided to discontinue stall cleanings for the Fair Park.

4. Monday FunDays (Formerly Monday Night Lessons): Once the new education schedule is set, members will be required to sign up for the activities ahead of time via a Sign Up Genius page. Activities will require participation of at least 5 members in order to be held that night.

If you would like some super fun “get-to-know-you” games or ice-breakers, please don’t hesitate to ask. I have so many resources! Let’s make sure that Jefferson County 4-H club meetings are a fun, welcoming and enjoyable place to be.

You each should have received a personal email from Katelyn stating what you need to do to complete your enrollment. Club leaders - please help us by reminding leaders at your meetings! You are not considered a volunteer with our program until you are approved. Please contact Katelyn with any questions.

CLUB NEWS Farmington All Stars

The Farmington All Stars 4-H club met on Feb. 4 at the Farmington Town Hall.

In old business, the group talked about record book training. Due to scheduling conflicts, that training will be moved to a new date when more families can attend.

In new business, leader Nicole Wagner updated the club on numerous coming community service activities, including Loaves and Fishes Feb. 24, May 18 and Aug. 18, volunteering at Dirt Days at Jelli's Market May 2, volunteering at the Jefferson County Dairy Breakfast May 16, and the Watertown Agribusiness Club's breakfast June 20 and 21.

Upcoming events for this month include ice skating in Delafield Feb. 9 and a family game night at the town hall Feb. 21. The photo challenge was Signs of Winter, and Colleen Wilson won with a photo of the sun spike that happened last month, in front of winter scenery.

Next month's photo challenge will be “Love,” in honor of Valentine's Day.

Hubbleton Hustlers The Hubbleton Hustlers met on Sunday, February 2, 2020.

We met at Watertown Bowl 18. We talked about the

donations we will be making to the Jefferson Food Pantry in

March, along with when to hand out our Valentines Craft to the

Heritage House residents. The flower fundraiser forms were

also handed out.

After the meeting we all bowled and had a great time. Some of our younger members even bowled without the bumpers!

Ideal Clever Clovers The Ideal Clever Clovers 4-H club met on Saturday the 15

th of

February at the Dwight Foster Library in Fort Atkinson.

The club members answered the roll call question: what did you do for Valentine’s Day?

Next month, members need to answer the question: what does the first H in 4-H mean? Everyone was encouraged to consider doing a poster and/or speech for the county contest.

Mark Maloney brought a Lego project to share. He made a model of the Saturn 5 Rocket. It was motorized by a Lego train motor and its control. He answered questions and allowed other members to play and control it. Did you know that the real rocket’s crawler only went 1 ½ miles per hour?! It took about 5 whole hours to arrive at the launch pad!

Treats after the meeting were made by Kathleen Maloney. She brought a rice crispy cake decorated to look like a snake as well as chocolate chip cookies, string cheese and milk.

The Ideal Clever Clovers next meeting will be on the 21

st of March, 2020 at Dwight

Foster Library in Fort Atkinson . - Kathleen Maloney,

Reporter

Lucky Clovers On Monday, February 10th, the Lucky Clovers 4-H Group held their monthly meeting at the Watertown Senior Center. This month we were honored to welcome Watertown's Mayor, Mayor Emily McFarland! Not only did she speak to us about our city government, how it works, and how she got to be where she is today, but she also shared with us many of the needs that our community has and how we, as a group and individually, can serve to fill those needs! Thank you Mayor McFarland!

Our next meeting will take place on Monday, March 9th at 7pm

Rock River Clovers This past month in the Rock River Clovers 4-H club

we have participated in many activities in our community along with strengthening our leadership as a club. Just a week ago our club held a craft night that was led by members. The lesson was on how to make a potential fair project. We have been doing severely different craft nights to encourage members to start their fair projects early. Throughout the holiday season our club has volunteered for many hours of bell ringing for the Salvation Army. Many members danced and sang while bell ringing, bringing in lots of donations. In total our club raised $349 for the Salvation Army just in the past few months. Moving into the next month on February 23th we will be going on a trip to Cascade mountain for a fun filled day of Tubing. We also have a chance to take a class at Blue Fire Art to help in getting ideas for fair projects. Every month we have two families go and volunteer at the food pantry to help unpack food donations and help with anything else they may need. The next meeting for the Rock River Clovers will be held March 4th 7pm at Rockwell elementary school.

Sullivan Stars

The Sullivan Stars 4-H Club met on Thursday February 6th at the Sullivan Village Park VFW Building. Members discussed that the Sullivan Sno-Drifters were appreciative of our volunteers who helped during their annual breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, January 5th. Our club also received a thank you from the Christmas Neighbors Board for sponsoring a family in 2019. We also discussed fundraising ideas for our club. Club members were reminded of project learning day and 4-H registration deadlines. Club members also voted on assembling Easter baskets for our March community service project, and discussed ideas of guest speakers for upcoming meetings. For our meeting activity we made 20 Valentines Day

cards to be delivered to residents of Three Pillars. The next club meeting will be Thursday March 5, 2020 at 6:30 PM.
